No, but my point was contingent upon her official name being Anzu, and he said he would want it to be changed to Anne. Atlus seems to like to keep the names of characters consistent. Although, Teddie/Kuma flies in the face of that, so its hard to say for sure.

eh...Teddie is a different case for sure.

Don't play with my heart. You do realize, I'm never going to be able to stop thinking she is trans now right? Even after I've beaten the game?

Well, I never said it was her specifically. Just that a trans character wouldn't surprise me in this game. Though, if the game never really specifies you can kinda make it up and just roll with it, no? Remember Kaine?

Stolen shamelessly from Pixiv:

I think it sums up this thread in a nutshell rather nicely.

Do we know much about what will be in Famitsu next week? I've heard some talk about a figurine? What else? Battle system specifics? Some info on what we're fighting (demons / shadows)?

We do.
This is an excerpt from an interview in next week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu. Stay tuned to next week for more information about the protagonist and his persona, his friends, and the game’s systems.

I'm very interested in the systems part. Considering we could gleam some new stuff off of those menu screens, we got guns again and got that slight hint of persona transformations.

Dunno if I want to know more about the story. That's the kinda thing I'd go into a blackout for :X

It should be early Tuesday.
Okay, thanks.

Yeah, I'm feeling torn on how much information to consume before release. I'll probably check the stuff in this week's Famitsu and then call it quits.

Just IMO: I can never understand part of the community's obsession with wanting trans/gay options in Persona 5. I know they did it in Persona 4 with Kanji/Naoto/(Maybe Yosuke) but doesn't mean cuz they did it once, they might necessarily go and do it again. Wanting it is fine, but let's not obsess too much over the issue.

I want a gay option cause I'm gay. Simple as that.

They didn't in P4 for one. But generally, positive support for LGBT + more appeal is usually a net gain for games.

Honestly should a trans girl and a girl be depicted the same? So many people want to have a character with the trans status, but once the transition is done isn't the person trying to be seen as what they have always felt themselves to be?

An in transition character would be more interesting.

Yeah let's not take the thread that way. I know a subset of posters are about that stuff but there's other places for that, having problems with this thread would only give wrong impressions.

So essentially make the MC akin to Shepard from ME.

Meaning FeMC?

Yes, and I'm not sure what's wrong with that. See: Catherine.

I also think that it's because they didn't do it in P4, but they "almost" did that makes a lot of people want it.

I remember being kind of excited at the thought that Kanji might be at the very least seriously questioning of his sexuality after meeting Naoto. Then after the whole operation bit with Naoto I remember thinking how cool it would be to actually have a trans character and the interesting interactions she might have.

But then it turned out to be the standard trope of straight guy crushes on "guy" who turns out to be a woman.

I still think it would be cool to have an LGBT character, but I'm not getting my hopes up

Also this.

I think they're discussing the characters holistically, not just the MC.

Ah.

Well, that would require getting a Female MC choice, first.

Well, given the trailer is already out portraying the MC as male, that door may have well and truly closed unless there is another version of this game that will come out later with that option (like P3P).

At the least, the sexuality traits of the MC and others in the trailer (save the cat) aren't known and could be used as a blank slate from our perspective. Then again, this is all just mere speculation on my part given I haven't seen many JRPGs be as flexible as Bioware's WRPGs.

I dunno, I'm all for homosexual S-Links, but arent't the characters in Mass Effect all bisexual just so everybody's romanceable? I'd much prefer it if certain characters are just gay/trans or whatever and wouldn't bow to your preference. They're supposed to be their own characters, after all and social links were mostly about them, not yourself.

But since that would require another MC/FeMC scenario it's unlikely we're going to get it. I'm saying this because even to me as a straight male the most fun part about replaying P3P were the new social links available by playing as FeMC and you'd gain a similar replay value if P5 went in that direction and had S-Links exclusive to a certain gender/orientation. Which it obviously doesn't, though.

I think there will be a few gay options. It's very unrealistic how past Persona games and I think Bioware games handle romance, everyone's out for your dick. I want characters who are gay, characters who are straight, characters who are hard to get, and characters who are easy. I won't freak out if it's not there, I just want social links that leave an impact, much like Kanji's, Dojima's and Nanako's from P4. Even if they're no gay romances, you know the MC and his bro are getting shipped out to space in Japan tho

It's interesting when you consider that Kanji actually thought Naoto was cute regardless of gender. lol. The secondary takeaway from Kanji's storyline is "Cute transcends all"

Did you play Catherine? It had a trans character that completed the process. Very well done.

Maybe those persons are LBGT themselves and would like characters they can better associate with? It's not an unreasonable thing to want.

Or maybe they're like me and just think heteronormativity is boring despite being straight.

It's as simple as: this game allows for romantic character relationships. It would be nice if it allowed for more than just heterosexual character relationships.

It's not about changing the game entirely. It's about allowing an additional option which is inclusive.

I feel like Kanji might have just been Atlus afraid to go all the way. Alternatively, they wanted to make some masculinity/sexuality connection and just ended up going crazy with his shadow lol.

Naoto is just a poorly written character.

Naoto was originally written as just 100% dude with the gender stuff tacked on later and it shows.

Remember that P4 was made in less than two years and with a lot of compromises.

Naoto was written as a look at Gender roles in Japanese society, particularly women in the work place. It was there was from the start.

Hetero-normative relationships are boring to me most of the time (unless they are interracial)

Well she is neat but the shitty jokes Vincent and the gang throw at her aren't very trans-friendly.

Considering she poked fun at the other characters just as much and she was respected as much as any of the guys, I don't see the problem. It would have been worse if they tiptoed around the issue and the characters pretended not to have any opinion on the matter at all.
