What software drought? Did 2K cancel the PS4 version of Evolve?
Can you actually expect rationality when an Order 1886 pic is involved?
What software drought? Did 2K cancel the PS4 version of Evolve?
When is the Order scheduled to release?
More attributed to software drought than anything else.
Is anyone seriously saying it won't move many units? I think everyone is saying the game is going to suck. Lots of sales doesn't mean it won't, specially when we're looking at a stack of PREORDERS.
When is the Order scheduled to release?
No way The Order will flop.
Destiny flopped?I think quite a few people felt this way about Destiny.

As far as I'm concerned yes. I don't mean financially by the way. In that case it's a huge success, and even review-wise it rated very high. But I think after the initial "oh joy this game is great" taste wore off, most people just moved on. And pretty easily I might add. Check out any top 10 disappointments of 2014 list and Destiny usually has a place on it.
My own opinion is that The Order will move units, yes. But I seriously think it's setup for a fall. I haven't watched much gameplay since the first few official ones, so I can't say for definite, but the ones I did see seemed very lacking in gameplay. By that I mean there was a lot of time where the player wasn't in direct control of the character and just watching what was happening on the screen. I hope it isn't so, but I'm dubious about games now. Been burnt too much recently.

So...in other words, it wasn't actually flop. Just to your weirdo notion of a "flop."As far as I'm concerned yes. I don't mean financially by the way. There's your problem. Impressions from gaffers who have played it over the last couple days have said that the gunplay is fantastic.
What the fuck does this even mean?As far as I'm concerned yes. I don't mean financially by the way. In that case it's a huge success, and even review-wise it rated very high. Yet people still play it months laterI think quite a few people felt this way about Destiny.

The question is, why do people want games to flop?
"I'm tired of cinematic games. Hope they don't succeed so developers can take a hint and not make their games cinematic anymore". Something like that.
No way The Order will flop.
The Order appears to be amazing and the gunplay fantastic. Also it's VERY pretty.Interesting.
So is Evolve already considered a success?
Also, this is a hard question to answer.
I don't know much about RER2, and The Order is just too much of a wild card...
Did we get any early leaked impressions of either game yet?
People that say this incense me. As if there wasn't enough room in this industry for everyone's preference to be satiated. I hate platformers and I'm sick of them. But I don't hope developers stop making them."I'm tired of cinematic games. Hope they don't succeed so developers can take a hint and not make their games cinematic anymore". Something like that.

A flop is a game that sells poorly. It's not a game you feel disappointed by.

Check one of The Order threads. Impressions from people with early copies have been pretty darn positive all around. Is this early impressions from people who have played, or just your thoughts from the clips that were released?
I watched a few of them, and it is no doubt very pretty, but i want to know if the story is good!! That is what is most important to me, and I know that opinion on the story can vary from person to person, but I want to know what people think!
Like I said, it's not a bad hypothesis, but can we back it up? So there being no big titles (besides Evolve arguably) means people are going to just chunk money at The Order?I think what Grief meant wasn't really that there aren't ANY games to play or new releases, but that there aren't many(if any)must have type of titles for a lot of people. There are no Uncharted, GTA, RDR, and Halo(to name a few)type of games at the moment.

Marketing seems to be subsidised by Microsoft. Not saying it cost them as much as Titanfall but they have deep pockets.Maybe Evolve, but the marketing for that is everywhere, so could go either way.
Evolve is #1 on Steam right now.

I guess it's possible. I feel like Watch Dogs was much more widely advertised and hyped before launch, but I suppose the situation could be similar.I think people are just hungry for new games. Watch Dogs(from a critics and some fans for that matter)was a disappointment, but sold really well for Ubisoft. Unity...same thing. I feel like the AAA industry in some ways continues to get worse. They sell you on the pretty graphics during the marketing push/commercials and conveniently forget to talk about how awesome the gameplay and story are.(or aren't)
It's pretty disgusting to be honest. There aren't many developers left that I trust to make great content. Valve(yes I know it's been awhile but their past efforts are proven for many)Naughty Dog, Blizzard, Rockstar, Rocksteady, Bethesda, Obsidian, and Crystal Dynamics. For me, personally, I'm not gonna run out and buy the latest and greatest games because I may be bored and letdown by all the dogshit. I'll play older games that hold up well and are still awesome until someone delivers something truly amazing.

Kirby. So many people aren't even aware that the game was coming out this month
what about the story though?
Its early days still. 2014 was a shit show in terms of games and the quality (or lack thereof) titles released. The industry is pretty healthy and growing right now with the release of current gen machines. IMO some devs rushed to capitlise on the current gen craze and in doing so neglected the quality of theit titles and maybe (as you said) focused their marketing too much on visuals and not story/gameplay. But you mist also look at the fact that this is a start of a new gen and pretty visuals effectively sells these machines. As devs get to grips with the hardware and the visuals craze dies down, I'm sure then you will see a marketing shift to story and gameplay aspect of games over visuals. Sorry I'm a bit off topic. On topic: I don't really have an opinion on what I think will be a flop this month but I have been hearing a lot of negative impressions on Evolve and that DLC :O That alone doesn't mean it will be a flop but if I had to pick one it'd be Evolve.I think people are just hungry for new games. These are the pre-orders for The Order at one store

So, it may not do well among critics, but it sure as hell isn't going to flop in terms of sales.
The average number of reserves for the game across 4,200 stores is nowhere near that on average. Not even close.
The Order should do well enough for what it is, and if it reviews well and has good word of mouth it can be big.
As of now though I'm not convinced it will beat Evolve in NPD. Though it might.
