One episode of telltale games is $5, and they're two hours long and replayable because you can make different decisions. It was yet anther example of false equivalence.

No they are not we ate talking about gameplay vs price here no? Telltale games have next to no gameplay these days. But they are charging you 25 dollars a season. Kind of expensive for a 5 episide TV show with some qte here and there.

They are going for completely different things in different genres.

2 hours and 5 or so minutes. 2 hours and 15 if QTE's are counted.

It's not that bad, but I can't speak on how it feels. The review would imply that it felt like over 3 hours of cutscenes were in the game.

We've known it has no MP for a long time though. Most people are finishing it considerably longer than the one Youtuber. The game has almost always been known as an SP only affair.
 
Games like this don't matter when you play them, no MP so you don't need others to play it. So if the time and lack of reason to keep playing it bother you...wait. It will be in the discount bin and play it then when its much cheaper. Or watch it on youtube. If there so little game play may as well just watch it.

There you go. It's all a cost relative to enjoyment equation, not cost relative to time for the sake of merely lasting longer. After spending money on something, what you are going to weigh is if you enjoyed what you bought or not.
 
I never understood why there's so much negativity/vitriol toward this game. I've lurked every thread about it and they all go the same way. It's fascinating.

I for one don't care about the game whatsoever, it doesn't seem to be up my alley. But I guess that's just my posting style on the gaming side. If I'm not interested I just don't say anything unless it's some egregious practice like games with a lot of micro-transactions.

But nothing in this game seems to be particularly offensive. Emphasis on cinematic gameplay? old. Single player? old. Not that long? old. Not that I'm telling people what they are and aren't allowed to discuss. It's just fascinating with this game specifically lol.

Ultimately this threads and the Titanfall threads (debating whether a MP only game is worth full price) ultimately simply prove that value is inherently subjective. There's nothing wrong with considering the length of a game when making the decision whether to purchase or not. However I think some people tend to forget that the value they put on the length of a game is highly subject, and not an objective measure of the games worth.

Personally I'm not opposed to paying full price (for the right game) for either a MP only game or for a shorter single player game. However in either scenario it is slightly less likely that I will buy the game, and more likely I'll adopt a wait and see position - make sure the reviews are strong and the MP stays active.

I feel you man. As beautiful as this looks, I just personally can't justify the price as compared to DA:I, which I am still attempting to complete. I cancelled my pre-order as well, but will pick it up when one of y'all sell it on eBay for $40. Looking forward to hearing impressions when everyone finally gets it.

I've read in here that people are comparing this game to UC1 and I think/hope that's a good comparison. A decent enough game that introduces character and setting followed up by showpiece.

That's what I'm hoping for at least, I really did the world they've built

I wonder if the same people that are unhappy with this due to the Price/Time proposition would be okay with Fallout 4 coming out at $120.

I mean, what's the formula? Is it $2/hour that's acceptable? $3?

A 40+ hour game should then cost at least, what, $80?

Truth is that the price of a game hasn't adjusted with inflation, and since prices do fall over time, there will be plenty of opportunity to play something like The Order for $20 or less within the next 18 to 24 months. It's only $60 on day 1. What price an individual pays is completely up to them.

Value is an individual calculus. But I agree, the time/money equation on games is a very strange thing.

Saw somewhere that someone said it would be a "terrible financial decision" to buy this game. That was pretty funny. Cigarette smoking is a terrible financial decision, driving drunk also a bad financial decision. Eating out every night is pretty rough, and $5 coffees every day stack up. Carrying credit card debt is a terrible financial decision too. I don't see how a $60 game for 5-10 hours of entertainment is worth getting up in arms over. But everyone gets to make their own choices and that's cool.

The order of The Order:

- Game reveal shows insane graphics, cool action, and QTEs.
- Game's marketing material describes said game as an intense third person action game with cool weapons and unique setting. Talks about "filmic" experience.
- Rumours begin to surface that the game is on the short side.
- Developer of game says, "no comment"
- Reviews/impressions appear that confirm game is 5-7 hours long with half of it being traditional gameplay (so let's say around 3-4 hours).

Personally, game length isn't a big deal to me. However, it is one of the biggest factors that go into the buying equation. If they're holding their game out as a TPS action game then certain notions of game length percolate in your brain (perhaps 8-10 hours). Rather than tackle the concerns right on and stand behind the game they created, they respond with no comment. It's just misleading and deliberate withholding of the facts. Some people are OK with that. I don't like it, that's all. No crusade here.

I am more prone to buy a game with only a short campaign, if I think it looks good enough. As for Titanfall, I rented it for a couple of days and never cared to go back. Got to love having the beauty of choice. We are all better served for having so many options and games to choose from.

Each episode is about two hours though. It took me 11 hours to get through TWD Season 1 and 7 hours for The Wolf Among Us. No one is contesting the fact that these games have little actual gameplay, but it's around ten hours of entertainment for $25 max. That's a good deal. Especially since I bought TWD at $12 and TWAU at $6.

If people want to spend $60 on a 5-7 game with a large part of it being cutscenes, they are welcome to. I just think it's not a good value.

It isn't a big deal for you, but it is one of the biggest factors in the buying equation...for who? Are you telling other individuals what their factors are when it comes to buying a game...cause it sounds like it.

Length of a SP has nearly no place in the equation for me.
