The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

Dammit!
I wonder if the GameStop I preordered it from will give it to me early. Who am I kidding? Of course they won't!
Must resist watching streams, YouTube vids, and reading spoilers!

Crazy how much they changed the overall lighting, atmospherics and colour palette in some of the levels in the game.

Couldn't find a bigger version of the screen above! :(

Which one is the retail version? I think the first screen looks much more atmospheric.

First (top) one is the retail version. And yea, I absolutely agree. Big improvement imo.

And I thought it might be the other way around so I did refrain from also saying that the first screen looks technical much better. :o

Reading through the impressions it also seems the game is right up my alley. I love me some rather straightforward and linear shooters and I don't think that a "cinematic" approach is bad thing. I still think Heavy Rain is one of the best games last gen. *raises flame shield*

I loved Heavy Rain as well, did one playthrough and that was 'my story', you shouldn't have to raise a 'flame shield' against that.

It's the strangest thing with these 'cinematic' games that many like to criticise; I love them, I love short arcade games as well, but I don't like strategy games although I don't feel the desire to pile on people that do like them. It just seems like a waste of time trying to convince others their choice of music/game/books is shit compared to their own.

Mom n' pop local video game stores are the best at breaking the street date. There is one around here that always releases 2-3 days early and posts cryptic updates on facebook to let us know what it's available ;)

Posted in that lulzy "I am angry at broken street dates" thread, but bringing it here because my body cannot wait anymore:

Exhausted known resources yesterday to no avail, and will give it another go today; but does anyone know of any spots in NYC confirmed to be selling the Order early?

Please...my body...it is ready.

Thanks!

Is there are collectibles guide out there? I'm starting now, but I've heard there's no in game collectibles tracker, so if there's no guide, then I'll have to take notes on how many I've picked up on each of the chapters. Thanks!

Sorry for the offtopic

As Spanish, this is something fucking brilliant. The original story is nothing funny by itself, but for how is told.

The guy is known as "el risitas" (the giggling). He died a few years ago though :(

You're wrong, Risitas is alive. He lives in my city, I've seen him several times. When someone asks for a selfie with him, he asks back to buy him a beer XD .The one who died is his brother in law "Cuñao", that appeared with him in the TV shows at the beggining. You can check them in this video.

Only collectibles are the voice log things everything else that can be considered "collectible" are more like things that can be examined and set back down.

Edit: I'm also gonna give this a medium playthrough because I feel like hard kind of forces you to cover a bit more. Less room for movement and to use melee.

Amazing, mega jealous of you guys, can't wait to see pics, vids and gaf thoughts on it. All you guys who have already got a copy have fun!

I can feel the Order 1886 to become the Uncharted Drakes Fortune of the PS4 era, a brand new ip with vast potential, which will then go on to be perfected to great lengths in a sequel. Hope the sales of Order 1886 is convincing enough for SCE WWS to allow RAD to make the definitive sequel!

I don't care if the game is short, but would like to know the final GAFFER play times ? For planning gaming sessions with the SO, we have busy weeks.

I read 6h in this thread, other playtimes ?

Oh man, that first shot looks so much better! It much more atmospheric. I'm getting so excited reading all these good impressions. I'm a big fan of cinematic, story driven games, and it sounds like this is right up my alley :)

Also, does the embargo lift today or tomorrow? I thought it was tomorrow, but now I'm confused, haha

I wish more developers would target 30 FPS on PS4 exclusives just so we can get more graphics like this game's :o.
What they did with motion blur in this game is nuts. It seems way smoother than 30fps, even in video form. I love 60fps and I'll take it whenever I can but a locked 30 with fluid morion blur like this is absolutely acceptable.

Just finished the game. Took about 10 hours on medium. A friend also took around the same time, so I think that's typical if you take your time. Only difficulty came when they threw like a dozen soldiers at you, or when those grenade lobbers showed up, forcing you to abandon your cover.

Gameplay wise I'd say it's competent, the Blacklight thing was nice although I rarely remembered to use it. QTEs weren't too bad. Aside from the RE4-like melee fights, they only show up like 5 or 6 times in the entire game. Even the stealth sections were okay, although having to time your triangle press to take out an enemy from behind felt unnecessary.

Had some weird glitches happen, such as the weapons menu not showing up sometimes, or some weapons disappearing, and one time an enemy was just standing around despite my being mere meters away. Very infrequent, though.

The game will be enjoyed mainly for its presentation, and it excels there. Really amazing attention to detail. And unique setting, too. Too bad the story seems to abruptly end.

I enjoyed my experience with the game, but I don't think I'll return to it. The game doesn't even tell you what collectables you've missed on which chapter, and you can't skip cut-scenes.

Damn, thought the embargo went up tomorrow. Well, exciting times when I awake! Are there literally no unlockables?

Well, there an "The Armoury" option in the in-game menu that is grayed-out, even after having finished the game. Maybe you need to finish the game on hard to unlock it?

It seems pretty clear already that in terms of replayability they did everything wrong! Thats a shame! I mean, come on, its a SP only game they should add to these minor stuff. There's no unlockable difficulty, no trophy for higher difficulty, no track for collectables, no skippable cut-scenes, no unlockable content, nothing! Adding stuff like that would just give this game much more value!

I for one, will skip this game just for that. I dont want to pay 60 dollars in a 10 hours long SP only game with 0 replay value, when it could easily be added these days and they have not even tried. Still intend to get it, but when it gets cheaper.

Don't be jealous. Neither Nib or I have the game yet. ;)
My 'sob story' is I'll not get it at all as I'm on XB1 and have stupid real life things when I need to take care of before I can get a PS4... who would have thought a new born baby and a broken boiler could get in the way of your gaming... DAMN YOU REAL LIFE! I will be living my 'Order' experience through Gaf for the near future lol!
