Develop-Online: The Order: 1886 Dev Says "Internet Is The New Playground For Bullies"

I can understand where they are coming from with that statement but the wording just isn't the best. Also I don't agree that the situation is quite as dire as they seem to paint it. Overwhelming hype and praise for products people haven't played isn't any better and it's most certainly a thing (yes even The Order 1886 gets part of it).

lol I've about had it with The Order threads. I'm going to play the game soon and make up my own mind, ya'll can keep arguing.

Thanks for letting us know, I guess?

I don't think anyone could say with a straight face the this game gets the expected amount of criticism a unreleased game usually gets. Some people will likely whack off looking at a metacritic page if the game gets rated bellow 70.

Grow up. Are you going to whack off if it lands a 90?

Had a feeling you'd react like that. As I said, its not ob the same level as what's going on with The Order. But ultimately, you've judged the game before release. While flat out hating a game without touching it seems strange, criticism shouldn't be discouraged.

As brandonh83 said, I doubt most people have an issue with the overall length of the game. I LOOOOOVE sub 10 hour games. The issue is with gameplay vs cutscenes. Most people are probably concerned you may only spend 3 hours or so actually PLAYING the game.

Which I feel deserves criticism for a full priced AAA game.

I didn't judge the game at all. I'm getting it when it comes out. I wanted to know what people were seeing that I'm not that made them much more hyped then I was because I'm usually hyped like everybody else. There was no judging or criticism going on.

To be 100% honest they are right that the game is being attacked from the very first showing in E3... 2013? or was it 2014?

I remember the thread where first they showed (unveiled) this awesome CGI with The Order guys traveling in a coach through mysy London, looking outside through the windows and then getting to a stop in some docks area. It was all very new (the designs) and very much needed in the Call of Duty + Battlefield world. Majority of the people on this board were pumped.

Then they show 5-secs of gameplay which was IMMEDIATELY branded as "lol, 3rd person shooter! Victorian Gears of War"

And from that very moment the attacks on the game started. They never ended since... the last attack is on the game's length.

I actually think the setting itself is fascinating. The problem is the gameplay really does like a retread of Gears of War. What does the game do on a gameplay level other than QTEs to distinguish itself from GoW?

I think Dana Jan should acknowledge that people aren't tearing it apart for being 5 hours alone. It's that it's some of the most uninspired looking game design, ever.

Seriously, it looks like the tech, and the story are brilliant. But as they let everyone in on, 6 months ago during that interview, there is no room for design because there is a story to be told.

And to be honest when a story is getting in the way of design, and there's no room for game design outside of entirely scripted QTEs and the shooting parts (the actual game) act as transition and filler, you genuinely have to ask whether it wouldn't have been better placed as a film?

I am not saying it needed to be open world. I am not saying QTEs are a reprehensible design choice. I am saying, on every single game design front they appears to have chosen the path of least resistance. This game is bringing nothing but it's story to the table in terms of it's creative output.

It's just a shame there was no room for there to be more of a focus on gameplay depth or variety.

lol okay.

You have to admit, they have the art of manipulating forum warriors down. Just give them a talking point, then watch them run it into the ground for you.

I am really, really rubbed the wrong way by their "The internet is just mean" thing.

It feels like they're trying to stand close to actual victims so that they also get painted with the same brush and I very much do not like that.

It really seems like they are trying to paint themselves as victims before the reviews are out, so that they can get a few sympathy points.

Firstly, that's not true. A number of people have been excited about The Order since it was unveiled a couple of E3s ago. Secondly, I think it's important to consider why that may be. I mean, I know the immediate "console wars" explanation is just to assume that it's because of people that are rooting against Sony wanting to troll another Sony exclusive. And while I won't write that off completely or suggest that it doesn't factor in at all, I also don't think it's fair to say that every first party title is getting this reaction. It's at least worth considering going forward whether or not some of the criticism the game is receiving is fair and not just the result of "bullying."
You say it's not true. But maybe that's subjective opinion?

But out of all the exclusive game threads I've followed over the last few years.

The Order seemed to have a consistent vibe of negativity targeted at it.

The only one that came close was Ryse. But I felt overall Ryse threads were more 'positive' (just)

And Knack was just well loved ^-^

For being PS fan?

No am gonna support them because I have a PS4 and I like the game, fanboys from competing console won't buy this game they are just trolling it is really nothing new in The Order threads

Can you point out the people doing this and confirm they do not own a PS4?

Sounds like ME3 all over again. People can't handle getting called out for their shit and pretend that either it's all being made up or that the face of the 'criticism' is the actual constructive criticism.

Some people here are validating the very things being said.

However, nothing ever really comes out of focusing on that part of the community. Acknowledging it just adds fuel to the fire, and quite frankly those that do so often serve their own about of BS as well (ME3 'entitled', Adam Sessler/Arthur Gies twitter rants/breakdowns, Phil Fish). It's just better to not say anything at all. If you're going to focus on something, focus on the actual criticisms, but only if you have something to offer to the argument. If you're still going to be hiding behind the veil of NDAs and such, what could be brought to convince anyone.

It takes more effort to find and address the posts/tweets/submissions of critical responses, but that's the only ground that can be approached when it comes to such things.

Dude, it doesn't even compare to ME3, if you were upset about how shitty the end of ME was (or ME3 in general) you had played 3 long ass games and waited years while Bioware fed you lies.

Is it too much to expect people to play your game before bashing on it? I don't own a PS4 and even tho I'l probably buy this game eventually, I don't mind if reviewers don't like it and I think it's very short for a 60$ game (I wouldn't pay 60$ for it), but I think its shitty to spend so much time trying to bring the game down. It gets even worse when people start to pretend this game was subjected to standard pre-release behavior.

When did the insanity regarding this game start? When it was revealed, people were into it but it never received tons of attention. I figured it would come out, sell decently, and be forgotten about after a month or two. The past two weeks have been insane regarding this game with 9 billion threads (both positive and negative), discussion spilling out into other threads, and people hyping up the review thread like it was the second coming.

I'm playing the game RIGHT NOW, as we speak, and I've been called out for trolling this game. Even though my trolling was just legitimately concerns.

...which, I dare say, comes with more actual value than a $100 steak.
At least The Order doesn't expect you to add a 30$ tip at the end.
Am I doing this right? :P

Anyway personally I find 99% of AAA story-modes about 2x too long (for the hiqh quality ones, suspect it's higher for not so good ones), so I find 1886 actually more appealing based on time-metric alone.
On related note - I wish F2P games had such an "objective" measure of return on investment (time is how you pay for those games, so it's not it, even in the select minority of them that don't cause mental anguish to the user). It would probably lead to a healthier mobile industry if everyone rated them on some metric that actually requires an effort on part of the developers/publishers.

A real fan will come with constructive and legitimately concerns and criticism regarding any game made by the company of their choice. The worst possible fans are the fans that automatically take a defensive stance regarding a game, defending it like their lives depended on it, never seeing any fault with the game no matter what.
Sorry for actually liking the game I guess

Alright look The Order fans, accept it right now. Accept it right now. On this very day that The Order will not be in the the beloved child of the gaming community. Please accept it right now. I don't wanna hear you crying after Thursday when reviewers beat on it. I don't wanna hear you crying "I'm gonna make an online petition, I might make an online petition because I'm very upset". I don't wanna hear none of that bullshit. I just want you to accept it.

Now don't get me wrong I like The Order, solid TPS, I wish there'll be a sequel. I wish they get a chance to expand the story, I think it's a great setting. Right? Game isn't even released, but internet bullies already hate on it, don't even give it a chance, calling it a movie, and something that should be in theaters, not in their PS4s. The ultimate underdog versus the ultimate Internet just bthese bullies will crush anybody they beat anybody. How can The Order possibly overcome them and be received like the best game ever!? Oh no, but that's not gonna happen that story will not be told. I'M SORRY. EHHHH, EHHHH. WHHYYYY!? WHY!?? Don't get me wrong, I'm upset too. Oh my god that would be a great story, but we're not gonna witness it, it's not gonna happen and I want you to accept it now.

You should've accepted it before 2014 when PS4 had no games. I KNEW the Internet wasn't going to take it easy, I told you this and you motherfuckers were still on here, "no, no, no I think the Internet changed their mind." You think the internet gives a fuck what you think? You think the Internet cares? We'll be dead before the Internet, I'm having a heart attack right now. They want The Order to DIE and that's how it's gonna be. They been planning this all fucking year.

First off all you ruined everything last year. Xbox One was gonna win the race, fucking XBOX ONE, The One in All in One was going to be the first to 10 million. I would think, right? And become the leading console of the generation, the One in All in One, you ruined it, you ruined the ultimate dream of the Internet, and America.

And now you think, now you think Internet is gonna once again allow you to ruin Xbox One, ALLOW YOU to ruin everything the Internet did to get Xbox One here. I mean they ended the fucking KINECT for this they made Master Chief look like a BITCH for this. And you think you're gonna ruin it? You think they're gonna do all that and let The Order- let The Order get 90+ on metacritic, you understand whoever gets 90+ metacritic beats every other exclusive, beats the Internet bullies who crushed Peter Molyneux, Denis Dyack, beats Master Chief and becomes the next big gaming mascot. Master Chief is a bad motherfucker. You think they're going to let The Order take all that?

Come on man it ain't fucking happening, you need to accept it now and I know they got ya'll hyped up now "Oh my god it's so cinematic!" Oh my god The Order is going to release and prove everyone wrong. Who do you thinks gonna be proven wrong? Are you this fucking dumb? Do you think they're gonna fucking let The Order get good scores? NO, all of this is the Internet fucking with you that's all it is. Fucking with your emotions don't worry, don't worry PS4 will get a game one day when the time is right when the Internet is ready to give your way to let you celebrate, but not this time, not this time, not THIS time. Not this Thursday, not this Friday it ain't fucking happening.

Just accept it please, I don't wanna see ya'll on here crying on the 20th isn't that when the game releases, crying and shit "Oh why The Order is a game, OH I can't believe it, ohhhhh." Whining and shit about 30fps being I don't even get why they whine about 30fps, I like 30fps okay oh he's not the best fps well he'll get better. Okay? OKAY. We'll put him with a better technical team, there's plenty of solutions. OKAY, guy?

But I agree with you I wouldn't put 30fps in there, I'd put 60fps but eth-I don't run the place okay, I don't fucking run it. I just yell at people and shit and I'm telling you right now The Order is going to be killed by the Internet. It won't be no solid TPS. The Order fans on here talking about "It'll be a solid TPS" NOO Order fans DRUM alert THAT. It ain't gonna be nothing, it's gonna be 30fps, no innovation. Linear, no next gen gameplay, and The Order is probably returned by retailers cause no one buys it. The Order will be returned by retailers, bet on it. BET ON IT.

And you motherfuckers will be upset too, you'll be like "The Order's returned by retailers!?? NOT FAIR. I preordered it!" And you should be happy, you should be happy you got to preorder. The Last Guardian didn't get no preorder, be happy for The Order they gave The Order that preorder. Okay? They gave it that they ain't gonna give it a release too. Okay, you getting greedy now you're getting greedy. You want it all, you want it all and I'm hey, I totally understand, it's a great story I get where you're coming from, but the Internet is getting its way this year. Accept it, deal with it and quit crying about it cause it isn't is you're wasting your fucking breath because ain't shit gonna change. It's gonna be PS4 has no games and shove it down your fucking throat, they're shoving it down The last Guardian is dead Y2Kev! He's shoving it in your throat and you're gonna have to accept it. Anyway, peace.

lay off the meth.

Lair for PS3 was kind of a laughing stock too.

I wonder if it isn't the cinematic nature? Quantic Dream games seem to get a similar amount of negative attention from people that seemingly have no intention to play them - at least partly because they aren't seen as 'proper' games. So enthusiast gamers seem to feel the need to strongly express how such games are 'wrong'. I don't know why they cause so much reaction - there are lots of different types of games out there, meeting different needs and tastes, so why can't 'visual novel' type games work on a big scale too?

You have made it RAD... .you have reached the level of a known PlayStation Exclusive Developer... when making PSP games, it wasn't a big deal for some.

but you have now joined the ranks of Sony Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital, Evolution, Insomniac, etc...

PlayStation Exclusive Developers releasing great looking games have been unfairly bash for years...

just worry about releasing this game and the gamers excited to play it....don't give the folks who don't have PS4s or were never interested in the game in the first place...don't give them no air time.

just stay positive.... you'll have costumers, who have been satisfied by games released by those developers, who will counter argue for you.

200 grams? Is that big?

This is the life of a content creator, has been since some dude made a handprint on the wall of a cave. A project that goes public is open to criticism, especially when you have to pay for access

It's a very visible game because of the huge production values and because exclusives get more attention. Also, It uses many design elements we saw a lot last gen, and which many people have come to actively dislike. Combimbination of those 2 things has led to a lot of negativity.

Personally I've found it frustrating that they chose some unique designs and a setting that really appeal to me, but then paired it with what imo looks like the most uninspired gameplay you could concieve.

I actually think the setting itself is fascinating. The problem is the gameplay really does like a retread of Gears of War. What does the game do on a gameplay level other than QTEs to distinguish itself from GoW?

I do not know - it is not out yet. I am only disappointed in the game's length. It has nothing to do with the game's quality, though.

A) Listen to the Interview

or

B) Understand how an interview works and that a person will talk freely and not generally think much into carefully wording and that one person who works at RaD does not represent the views of RaD

I am really, really rubbed the wrong way by their "The internet is just mean" thing.

It feels like they're trying to stand close to actual victims so that they also get painted with the same brush and I very much do not like that.

yeah this quote too:

"There's an argument to be made that one is better than the other depending on who you are. If you just want to be full all the time then all-you-can-eat terrible steak, maybe that's for you?"

like, really? they're no better than the "bullies" that they're responding to.

I still don't understand why they're getting flak for selling a short game. If the price is not worth it for your personal interest, just don't buy it, like with all other things in life that you feel are overpriced. No need to shit down their throats.

Clearly the only reason is talked about so "passionately" (both in virulent attack AND virulent defense) is due to its exclusive position at the beginning of a console gen, when it still matters, and people can still be like "bloodborne and uncharted will shit on halo and quantum break hurrr durrrrr". Dammit, Internet.

On the other end, though, it's pretty clear they shouldn't have answered that. They're 'defending' their game when it isn't even out yet, and no reviews worthy of interest have surfaced. It feels very very weird. Plus, even if people are being dicks, they're still entitled to their opinion. So having them comment calling them "bullies" just because they don't like what they've seen of the game, it feels a bit like a knee-jerk reactions (especially in a time where other devs, and not only their games, are actually harassed and death-threated). I understand it's probably not a cool thing to witness when you release a game that's taken years of work, but it's clear such comments could only generate more hate in this case...

Oh, well.

yeah this quote too:

"There's an argument to be made that one is better than the other depending on who you are. If you just want to be full all the time then all-you-can-eat terrible steak, maybe that's for you?"

Yes, clearly. He's like "oh well if you think we're not good enough with our lovingly handcrafted few hours of gameplay, then just go play your shit-recycled daily mission of Destiny since you've already put 300 hours in it fighting the same boss half a billion time !"

Really, talking when under the emotion is not good :/

And everyone was thrilled about "Let's Play" videos, tsk tsk... I honesty saw this coming years ago.

I saw this coming when pro gaming celebs were banking off their Skills. Anyone can zip through a game.

Just watch a match where they're mashing on zooms and everything. You could probably get 10 hours of you relaxed and enjoyed it besides using the FPS MP treatment of zip, zoom, finish.

I am really, really rubbed the wrong way by their "The internet is just mean" thing.

It feels like they're trying to stand close to actual victims so that they also get painted with the same brush and I very much do not like that.

Yeah. I would rather see the team be proud of what they've did and realize that these things just happen. Everything is criticized. Everything. Even if the game were longer and had more variety, people would find issues elsewhere. And, you know, if they actually look around... it really does seem like most people that have actually played through it mostly enjoyed their time with it and have heavily praised several aspects of the product. I've even seen plenty of gameplay compliments, about how the shooting feels nice and so on.

When you're an artist you have to accept that not everyone will dig your art, and if you look at online message boards and social media you're going to find a slew of negativity regardless of what you've made. They should just, again, be proud of what they've worked really hard to achieve and smile when they're rewarded both financially and by positive feedback-- which is what the game is mostly getting from the people who have played through it.

I'm playing the game RIGHT NOW, as we speak, and I've been called out for trolling this game. Even though my trolling was just legitimately concerns.

I'm excited for this game, but to be completely honest a bunch of people have jumped on others for posting legitimate concerns, I've seen you get bashed before for no reason and that shit honestly helps no one. Some need to realize that not everyone has it out for this game and to be able to distinguish between people hating for the sake of it and those worried about the game they are paying for.

I pretty damn tired of hearing about The Order to be perfectly honest. (which I realize is partially my fault by looking online) It's not going to be the best game released this year but it also isn't going to be the most offensive. I feel bad for the devs having to deal with all of this but at the same time, what exactly did they expect when they were putting together the value proposition of this game?

When did the insanity regarding this game start? When it was revealed, people were into it but it never received tons of attention.
