The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

played the first 4 episodes so far

Pro
  • Never saw such realistic and mind blowin graphics, no Game has better graphics yet
  • Sound of weapons, environment and characters is just excellent
  • Story seems to be very interesting, there a lot of questions
  • Gun Handling is well done, feels very good - there are a few weapons
  • very intensive game, atmosphere is brilliant, especially in episode 4

Contra
  • only 1 thing, i think the Cutscenes are too long and some are too long.. its not annoying but i wish there should be less.

It's a great game so far, played 3.5 - 4h for the first 4 episodes, have begun the 5 episode now.

I think RAD should patch in skip for cutscenes...this can be really annoying after the first playthrough. At minimum skip should be enabled after the first playthrough. I don't get the logic of unskippable cutscenes. Fix this shit GG .. I mean RAD!!!

Lmao

Oh, god this is a nightmare! LOL

Shit, people are having meltdowns over my tweet.

I just meant that I've already spent 9 hours writing my review because I'm a perfectionist and kinda slow :lol
Yeah, right. I've read your reviews. So many typos, it's like it's not even written in English.
You know what would happen from that tweet :p

My review is done, now Im just adding pictures and stuff to the wordpress editor.

Any person who have yet to pre-order or buy the game, wait for reviews.

I think Ryse may have been due more to being an Xbox One launch title primarily, with every other issue being brought up just icing. Console launches are crazy times.

Sunset was nothing. Aside from people getting 'offended' by how self aware and meta it was looking to be and GAF having something against punk looks, no one made noise about it. No idea about DriveClub since I'm not into racing games.

Don't think it's exclusives, not anymore. Maybe when Halo and Uncharted come about we'll start seeing some of that behavior, but both have their own big fan bases to where it won't seem that prevalent.

I would say Destiny and Evolve are recent examples for third party titles. Destiny might have had a lot of people going for it than this, but those threads were shit post and hate central (deserved or otherwise). Evolve after it won the E3 awards the same, though to a smaller scale since most of Gaming GAF doesn't seem to care for online shooters.

David Cage games are also fun times.

Sad truth is that this place isn't that much different from Reddit or even Twitter outside of what are mods do. Going to have the blind defenders and haters. And it gets worse the larger the community grows. And no one cares because as long as someone is still on 'their side' despite what methods they use, people are going to let it happen. Then whine about it when someone calls out the community reaction based on those types of posts.

ryse also had the baggage of being a one-time Kinect game.

But yeah, the tone here is better but it is still bad enough that Cliffy B said all the devs he knows think gaf is full of a bunch of cunts. & there are a handful of devs who post here, but verrrrrrrrry few.

Well, i went to preorder my special edition today, sold out, the girl at the store told me they will get 50 of them but they sold out weeks ago, i paid for the regular version :/

Seems like the game could be a hit for Sony, keep in mind this was in Mexico.

Developers can't even make the game they want anymore these days without facing an insane amount of backlash. I feel sorry for RAD cause this was a game they wanted to make real bad and it looks like they accomplished it. But the "gamers" don't want just what RAD makes, they want them to make it their( gamers) way.

- Absolutely no QTE. Put one of those in your game and might as well send it to the gallows.

- Must have COD/Gears/Halo popularity multiplayer. If not....to the gallows.

- Black bars because it's what the developers feels like matches their vision. GALLOWS!!

Is it so hard to just enjoy it for what it is?

I have a feeling the game will review really badly. Single player only, linear, short, lots of unskippable cutscenes, QTE's, little replayability, style over substance and gameplay, black bars... Still, you got to admire RAD for sticking to their vision and not to what is popular (multiplayer, open world, rpg, loot,...). Quite a bold and risky move for a new IP.

The impressions on here do give a good idea of what to expect from the game though. Which means i'll probably buy the game on friday anyway. I know what to expect and i'm prepared to give this a go. I love single player 3rd person games (not fond of QTE's though) and i'm always interested in games that try something different. That being said, i feel that RAD could have made a killer game by not stubbornly sticking to cinematic over gameplay. Which seems to be the main critic aimed at the game so far judging from the impressions. Anyway, looking forward to friday. I'm going in with limited expectations but i hope it will be an enjoyable experience nonetheless.

Did you people really think I would post the score before emabrgo lifts?

It's not 5/10. And I never said the game was bad either, "wait for reviews" is a general statement for all games.

People are going to run with it. Counting down the minutes until people on Twitter start saying "Some reviewer on GAF gave it a 5/10"

My review is also done, but I haven't even played the game, nor do I own it..
Even so, please check out my review:

"I haven't even played the game, nor do I own it.

SCORE: 3/10"

Had an hour or so. Looks nuts as expected but the performance is absolutely Rock solid. Not one drop that I've noticed. Everything visually is of the highest order. Game plays just fine, sonically it's really nice. There's a lovely crispness to the weapons especially. I'm still on chapter 1 so not really had many gun play moments but it all works. The black bar thing hasn't been a problem for me as your focus is just elsewhere. QTE moments have been rather scarce tbh. The only visual issue I see is a very weird slight shimmer effect in spots, not the whole image, just a portion, looks like the sort of thing you'd ascociate with heat haze, that wobbly effect. Texture details are fab, and the material shader work is first class. The film grain is nice, but I think it's just a bit to prominent. Aliasing is superbly handled with lovely coverage. Motion blur is super sweet with no artefacts and the depth of field effects are also really nice.

Too late ... you will still be on the front page of N4G with 2000+ heat index for your score lol
