But then again, Japan has always had a.. unique choice of character preferences relative to western audiences.

Something you can always expect in japan is the MC of any work to be top 3 guaranteed. also, as evidenced by King himself or in Bleach, children or middle school grade characters who appear more mature than their ages portray always seem near the top.

Yume no Shizuku Kin no Torikago is a Josei series I haven't read any of but the mangaupdates tags say it's a harem with some smut so maybe you'll like it? Arslan Senki isn't awful but it's nothing special, maybe wait for the anime. Never heard of Torikae Baya but it doesn't look like it has any English releases anyway.

Akane is so amazingly evil and troll-ish that it's amazing. The page you got that picture of her from, and the one after it, had me rolling. Like, it's a miracle she hasn't taken over the world yet. Note I didn't say "try" because that implies that she could fail. That entire series is lucky she's a benevolent troll-god.
