Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

speaking of cross-platform play, would it be doable (if cost efective for the developers) to have web based leaderboards that loaded times for ALL players across platforms? would be an interesting way to easily (?) bridge the gap between players on different hardware effectively growing the p.cars community to one massive whole

Well, if you do have a good Internet connection and aren't using a browser that chokes on big GIFs, it does. :p

My point being that the two GIFs posted by ed3dfx on the previous page weigh exactly 76.6 MB, no matter how many times they've been quoted on the page (they're in the browser's cache, it won't download them again any time somebody's quoting the original message).

It doesn't excuse the fact they've been posted without taking any consideration of people having shitty Internet connections, though.

The problem is not the download, it's the rendering.

So the problem's at your (browser's) side, then, because FF has zero problem rendering huge ass GIFs on my 8 y.o. PC.
Also, there's that option in NeoGAF's mobile skin that prevents loading GIFs automatically.
It really helps when I'm browsing from my tablet.

Otherwise, if on desktop, try this fix for Chrome, or just use another browser, guys.

My guess is, that it is not cost effective, for most.

Each platform provide the developer with an amount of "Storage space" (not unlimited) to upload all your game data. (leaderboard query's, ghost data, screenshots, etc.) If you want to share that outside the live environments, you probably need to build your own "server structure" to handle all that traffic (?). This will cost you and why do that when someone else provides it, with a very little benefit.

The PC side is different, because they will give the community an API (access game data) and they will then build their own sites/mobile stuff/etc., unfortunately platform holders will never (?) allow this on the closed console environments.

I think there are a couple of reasons for that:

-Leaderboard data is usually integrated into the platform specific API, which means that parts of the data are held by the platform holders and thus unifying them might be a bit of an issues, bigger one being something in my next point. It would require them decoupling it all to be platform independent and that would mean that some platform features (XBL/PSN) might not be possible to use.

-Crossplatform is still a big no in Microsoft's eyes; they have a very direct clause prohibiting that when it comes to PS4/WiiU and it might be enough of a reason not to pass TRC. It depends whether platform agnostic features and crossplatform web handling count towards it.

-It increases server load and costs on developer's end for a questionable ROI even when not taking in account the development time for the system. Is it really worth the extra costs in load and development time?

I wonder if this will change with Xbox + Windows 10 if the APIs make it easy for cross-platform? I guess it may be too soon to say, and GDC would tell more, but MS certainly seem to be pushing it somewhat.

If universal apps are anything to go by then yes, the only difference will be hardware-compliance and the controller-compliance. It will be running the same exact kernel of Windows and the same exact version of DX12 for both PC and Xbox One.

Instead of having to port the game they just have to make sure it runs well on Xbox One and has controller support to bring it over.

Great video as always.

It's weird that for Monaco they have the actual F1 layout but not the circuit license.

Thank you. ;)

Being that it's just a public road, I'm not sure there even is a license holder. There must be a twist with the name however since the name Monaco is never used (GT, etc). Monaco+layout=F1 license probably.

I remember that they said that is possible acquire the license, but it was very expensive and not worth it.

Project CARS graphics comparison between graphics settings in Low and Ultra.
The comparison is at Bathurst, alternating fragments of the lap in wet and dry, for a better appreciation of the difference in both conditions.

New video of the series 'Real Cam Effect' with Project CARS, where I've added filters for enhancing the realism and lighting, also flashes and spots on the lens. The video is recorded as if the driver take the camera on the top of helmet, is a lap at California Raceway with the Lotus 49 Cosworth '67.

Whoa, just played this for the first time in months because I have a reasonable GPU now and the Formula A sounds in the external cam are mind-blowingly good.

Is the car sliding all over the place in the corners or does the camera looking into the corner just make it look that way?

Hah, long time no see, people.
I was banned for a month because I did a joke about handicapped people, when I'm handicapped myself. Mods should know that handicapped people are allowed to joke about other handicapped people -_-

Anyway, I have an announcement to do regarding an Event that some fellows and I have been preparing for the next few weekends: We'll be doing a Ginetta G40 Jr. pre-season (with its practice, qualy and 45~ mins. races). That's the good side of the story. The bad side of the story is that it is restricted to people that can understand and talk Spanish.

Here are the details for anybody interested in joining us: http://lfoclub.com/index.php?campeonato=pretemporadag40jr

Here's a small (and ameteurish) trailer about the pre-season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mkNdSF_MOY&list=UU7HL_9yJeHhSk6KuXaP1qVQ

Happy to be back again :-)

You should have put that in a

It's been a while since I fired up the game as I don't have a video card right now but MAN I don't recall the engine sounds and shifting being that terrible sounding :/

Welcome back Fresquito!

On another note, has it been revealed what version of the game are WMD funders going to get?

I want to have game on day one (Senior Member WMD) so I have to plan. Thanx in advance!

Hi,

Rain weather comparison between Project CARS and F1 2014.
The video is a lap at Hockenheim GP with the Formula A in Project CARS (Williams Martini skin) and the 2014's Williams FW36 in F1 2014.

i like the f1 rain, more gloomy and I prefer the rain effect on the camera. I wish they would have shown driving in traffic though. The f1 games make racing in the rain at a place like monaco insane fun with all the mist the cars throw up.

I'm now convinced by the game but I'm not interested in playing it with the controller, so what are my realistic options for PS4?

Considering I've been using a DFGT with a Wheelstandpro (not great but is good enough to me) is the T100/T80 a completely worthless investment or should I look more on the T300 Ferrari GTE vs T300 RS range? Is the difference between both T300 versions just the visual aspect and PS specific buttons?

Is the T100 and both T300 compatible with the Wheel Stand Pro that I already have? Nothing on the horizon that could fill the gap left open by the DFGT (medium quality with good price)?

Thanks for the help.

Got a T80 on a Wheel Stand Pro and love it but there are better options. That just fit my budget.

Nope, it's at least currently toggleable in the post-process effects.

Also, team members should check the forums. There's a post about how the copies will be distributed.

Only PC for copies and discounts. Hmmm, not really surprising. Bummed I can't get a discount for ps4.

Or the Limited Edition in NA.

Two quick questions:

1. Is the "post-processing filters" the way to turn off chromatic aberration, or is there another way?

2. Once I choose the amateur / pro tailoring ingame, is there any way to "retailor" with a different level?
