Rare + Microsoft planning to unveil MULTIPLE new projects (Update on Twisted Pixel)

I'll just leave this post here:

Confirmed:
Killer Instinct
Conker (in Project Spark)

Likely:
Battletoads

That leaves one open spot. I hope it's a new Banjo-Kazooie. It's time.

(We don't know if Rare is working on Battletoads or the other IP, but I think they're working on at least one of them.)

Scratch Conker because that's just assets being used in another game.

Banjo and Battletoads are locks based on the t-shirt Spencer wore and a certain morse code message.

Spencer also tweeted that Rare wasn't working on a Perfect Dark. So my guess is that they would be doing an Xbox IP so another Kameo or Viva Piñata.

Unless they are making a full fledged game in Spark and selling it.

Rare isnt the real rare... Blah blah blah. Did you get that out of your system yet? Rare hasn't made a bad game on Xbox yet (besides PDZ sorta). The tired narrative is just old and the people who spout it all the time have some irresistible desire to litter every rare thread with it. Now, some studio with some old rare employees announces that they are making a banjo successor and people go gaga. They haven't even made a game together. I hope its a great game but damn people. Come on now. Now when E3 comes I know that no matter what rare shows the rare thread will be annoying as hell.

Any games from Rare will not be games from Rare but from just another MS studio. I know it's repeated in every thread about Rare, but the Rare that excited us is gone.

The new studio working on the Banjo like game is way more exciting.

Rare still made some really nice games last gen, like Nuts and Bolts and Viva Pinata.
Yes, there may be different people working there but why couldn't they make a great game?

I'm excited for Playtonic's game, but ulltimately we'll have to wait and see how things turn out.

With a bit of luck we're getting two great platformers.

Killer Instinct is not made by rare and that game is amazing.

Also this is the same Rare that made Banjo Nuts and Bolts, one of the most creative games from last gen.

If it is a proper, true Banjo-Kazooie 3 then I will buy an Xbone.

Absolutely no other game would make me buy an Xbone. Banjo Threeie would. Come on Rare, do it.

anyone remember a tweet from someone at Microsoft that mentioned finding Pinantas in weird places at HQ? could be a hint, can't find the tweet tho.

edit: found it, Kudo retweeted it, looks minor tho.

Sometimes when you work at Microsoft you see piñatas stowing away on equipment carts. No big deal.

Remember that he used the words "projects" and "things". It could be just one game, one Kinect/Hololens "project", and avatars for all we know.

I hope it's 2 or 3 core titles as much as anyone, but Spencer and Harrison both have used the same wording when talking about Rare in the past 6 months. When they talk in plural, it's always projects/things. When they specify with the word "game", it's always singular.

I'm not trying to feed the Rare hate, but it would be smart to keep expectations in check until the reveals.

Same. Aaron Greenberg is also already hyping up Halo 5...

Are Microsoft employees not trustworthy if they are hyping the biggest game the company is publishing or something? I don't understand this post at all.

Unless they are making a full fledged game in Spark and selling it.

There is literally zero chance of them doing that. Project Spark isn't nearly big enough for Rare to take that gamble or for Microsoft to even think that would be a good idea.

Bring her back, Microsoft, and I'll for sure buy an Xbox One. (If it isn't PDZ levels of crap.)

Looks fairly different from their previous games. It lines up with Greenberg and Spencer's comments at least.

Yup, his statement kind of infers they are still working on that scifi-ish game.
It's cool to see Twisted Pixel branch out and do something wildly different.
I wonder if it will be a AAA retail game.

What the hell even happened to Twisted Pixel?

Last thing I remember was that awful LocoCycle coming out.

Rare just needs to make another Conker, Perfect Dark, or Kameo and I'd easily be interested in it.

They made Lococycle for Xbox 360 and finished it at some point in 2013, Double Helix port it to Xbox One and PC, Xbox One version came out at launch then the long finished 360 version and PC port simultaneously released around Valentines Day last year iirc.

In Lococycle, they teased their next project (concept art is around) which looks much darker and different to anything else they've done before. Were job listings for UE4/Unity experience although I doubt they will be on two games in full production - probably just modern engine experience they wanted. Hired a few new people but their new game is seemingly bigger than anything they've done before and having more time.

Not a lot has happened really, just making something bigger which takes more time.

I thought Screamride was their biggest game.

We will know in March when we see how many millions of Xbox Ones it sells!

I doubt it. I don't think Microsoft would approve a AAA game without a bit more seasoning for the developer. I think it will be a downloadable title but with a much larger scope than their previous efforts.

I would imagine a fair amount of these may be Hololens games. There'll be traditional 'core' games too, but readying announcements for more than one suggests that they aren't all big games.

They're working on a new game. It's only been a little over a year since LocoCycle released.

Ok thank you guys. I was curious, it seemed like it was a while since we heard something new from them.

I like that Rare's IPs arr being worked but I don't trust Rare. Hope, if they are developing, to be good studios supporting or other better studios working on them.

They've got several teams/studios working with HoloLens already. I doubt they will add more before after the consumer release.

Pretty sure a completely different studio was confirmed to be working on avatars.

They hired some engineers to work on them, presumably because they are going to be incorporated into Windows 10, and thus not a specific developer Xbox developer.

Would you care to elaborate? God, RARE threads bring out the worst in people.

My apologies, that was drive-by in poor taste. I expect games to be using the new Avatars, and I expect RARE games to make use of them in at least one project.

Give 343 a few more years with Halo then they'll need PD :p

Microsoft shouldn't be putting Perfect Dark on the back burner . Tech espionage, cyberpunk is on the rise, they've already axed Black Tusks game for Gears of War, don't miss the curve.

What I'm excepting is Battletoads and Banjo.
What I'd love is new Viva Pinata and a Perfect Dark reboot (into something like Deus Ex)

Think about it. They want to make a full game within a game as a proof of concept. A small team and little budget for a game with a small fan base would not get a major release.

They've already said they're not working on a Perfect Dark game because they have a FPS in Halo and TPS in Gears. If they brought Perfect Dark back hopefully it would be a whole new take on it.

Thing is PD is'nt really anything like either. Again they can play up the superspy espionage , cyberpunk aspect of it. Maybe add some stealth elements (there were light stealth sections in the original game) into the mix.

Viva Piñata x Minecraft would be fun.

As for Twisted Pixel, I'd like to see another 'Splosion Man game. Loco Cycle was horrendous.

He's referencing what Chris Seavor said a while back about a MS exec thinking they did get DK. :P

Which I think was a bit of a mean remark, a lot of non gamers don't even know DK is a Nintendo Franchise. They even think they played "Mario" on their "Playbox Wii". So it isn't that odd that someone asked such a question after seeing a huge poster in an office.

When they said previously (not Ken Lobb) about it being too similar, I think they were referring to a multiplayer FPS, where there is serious competition and Perfect Dark would definitely struggle in that space.

Now as things move on, I think they would consider a more single player/story focused game which would make sufficiently different that it makes sense in their line-up and as a release
