It's not a bad film, but it's not spectacular. It's gotten praise for how it was filmed over a 12 year span, but it was hardly unique in the regard (just look at any sitcom with child actors that ran for numerous seasons).

It's a great movie, people just don't know what the expect or think about it. You have to understand what kind of filmmaker Linklater is to really get its deliberate aimlessness. I have problems with that formula and some other things but it is a wonder how that movie came together with some great performances.
