Street Fighter V - Charlie Nash trailer; beta for all pre-orders in NA

I don't. I mean if you guys are concerned about 1p player content, then that shouldn't be want you want either.

More characters means more development time dedicated solely for that and less for mini-games, cutscenes and other one player modes.

MK9 had around 20ish characters. The sequel, despite having new faces, is still around 20ish characters. There's a reason for that.

Meanwhile, SF4, a much better and more successful tournament game than MK9, has 44 characters.

They need more 1P content than they have had, though, so maybe a smaller cast helps that.

I hope literally everybody that's ever been in a Street Fighter game, or who has been on the Capcom side of a Capcom Vs game is in this. I know that's not the point of this game; it seems to be taking itself very seriously. I'm worried about this thing crawling up its own ass and forgetting to be fun.

In this game Chun Li gets a bowl of noodles stuck on her head and Ryu is punched into a bus seat.

Pre-emptive Bison feedback inc:
  • Psycho Dragon punch
  • Psycho Banish
  • Psycho Sever
  • Psycho Shot
  • 45 degree angle Psycho Crusher
  • Psycho Choke Slam command grab
  • +5 on blocked Scissor Kicks due to how slow all the moves look in the game so far so this is justified

  • psycho dive (kick) to make up for the high, floaty jump

So you want old Charlie, who was literally just a Guile?
New Charlie still looks and feels like Charlie while also being brand new.
This so much.

I love Guile and dislike Charlie because he was just a Guile who got linked to Guile. Now they are both their own characters and are both viable to have and feel like they are their own person.

Charlie looking nice... guess that means Guile's a lock too for sure now.

can't wait to see what deejay looks like with this engine

So the Illuminati took Rugal's remains, after his death in the KoF franchise, and revived Charlie with them. The SFV story already sounds awesome!!!

But on a serious note, Charlie looks ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!! His moveset, his super, his artstyle...off the charts!

I'm also liking the further refinements to the graphics engine and art assets. The characters almost have a clay-like look to them. I'm not sure if that's a negative or a positive, though it's certainly different. I also like they added spectators to the background of the China stage to make it looks more active.

I think sending this game through beta testing is the perfect idea and avenue to refine the netcode and get the roster more balanced before release. The limited arcade releases in Japan aren't cutting it anymore.

Man, I would not be cool with it if they butchered Urien to stitch his forehead and arm to Charlie. I do dig the new moves, but that tackle move has me suspicious of that.

The game still looks way too slow and too close to SF4 to me, I see what they're trying to do with the meatier-looking hits and detailed animation, but that looks too slow for me to find fun. I already found SF4 to be slow already too.

Why do Ryu & Chun-Li still have the same voices but Bison doesn't have his boss-ass voice from SF4 though? Bison was one of the few characters that looked real good in the SF4 engine AND he had the perfect voice to go with it too.

For Urien, I heard that Street Fighter V was placed between Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 3 in timeline. Basically we haven't met Urien yet in a sense.

It's possible that Bison might got new body in Street Fighter V. He was looking for a new body in Street Fighter 4, correct?

Comparisons seem pretty wrong when you're ignoring the fact that the stage lighting impacts on the characters lighting, just look at the difference between them being inside and outside the restaurant, it's definitely not as flat as SFIV.

To be honest I would love a Geese Howard alternative in the SF universe. He's such a unique, technical, and all around fantastically designed character.

Completely missing the point. First I'm not talking about success with just competitive players. I mean I started my original post talking about single player content, come on.

Second, it has 44 characters have 4 revisions. It started with 17, and later 26 for console release. But SF4 is what started this new age of fighting games. A game released that way in present time would be panned for being barebones the same way Marvel 3 was.

Groaned when it was Charlie/Shadow revealed but im happy that they changed his moveset a bit. Bison is my boy, hope he Balrog and Vega all make it.

My god. So hyped. Day 0 on PC. And a online beta too!? Better to get online correct now instead of during release. All the better.

I really hope so, I really like the III series as a standalone story cause even though its pretty much standard SF wackiness I dig the tone a lot more.

I know very little of Street Fighter lore, but that trailer was hype as hell. I'm really liking the music too.

I thought it might just be because Bison secretly has a drinking problem, and THAT'S why he goes through so many bodies...

You didn't say he was the only one to do it, you suggested that Charlie's gameplay was inspired by Fulgore, which is again odd given Capcom's history and breadth of experience in the genre. Have you played Marvel? Because those types of things are just the norm. Really typical stuff, but employed differently on a character by character basis.

I fully recognize that character archetypes feel and play differently depending on the systems in place. I play pretty much every fighting game out there. I just don't see anything Fulgore-ish about the pace of Charlie's play except on a pretty surface level, and that can be applied very broadly. It looks like Street Fighter to me.

Of course I played Marvel. I was posting about UMVC3 hype threads we had here just like you were! :) Marvel's pacing of it feels much different than me, especially with the team-switching and overall feel of the game. One of the things I love about KI is that it brings gameplay normally only seen in more mechanically-complicated fighters into a more pure 1 on 1, oldschool-ish fighter. I feel like Charlie here is doing something similar, being more of a "VS game fighter" design, but under the umbrella of normal SF.

I wouldn't even say Chun'sters stomps in the first trailer, ending with the spin, seem directly "street fighter" in their speed and feel. Nor do these post-round KO animations. If anything, it'll be the things that DON'T feel purely SF that make me buy a system for this game. Much as how I loved the Alpha series for seeming less like pure SF, and more like a SF / Darkstalkers series hybrid.

Anywho, considering how fresh some of KI S2's characters are turning out, I do hope some of that freshness rubs off on V. If anyone has the clout to make characters into fresh takes on archetypes, and make them stick, it's Capcpom!

Meh.

I never liked Charlie.

The original SF4 had 17 playable characters. People forget that the massive roster SF4 has now was built up over many editions of the game.

Not really commenting on his looks more as his new questionable moveset.Besides even Vergil has a flattering imitation of the move that destroyed many lives and wallets at arcades. You know what I mean, the Genocide Cutter!

Rugal will be proud.

Yea it would have been perfect if it had cutting sound effect like Genocide Cutter.

Zombie charlie, reminds me of vicktor from darkstalkers

Well it doesn't quite seem like he's a zombie or even evil as he says he'll only have to kill Chun-Li if she gets in his way. So it sounds like he has some kind of mission and is still somewhat good.

yeah I think... everyone from that game who didn't come back for IV is never coming back ever

except maybe Sean

Nan I think we will get a lot of the others over time. We already got Alex in TvC.

Remy though doesn't have a fan base and even if had a small one it's nothing compared to Guile or Charlie and they actually have a story to use.

Remy just has NOTHING going for him.

I'm still super disappointed with the animation, Nash is stiff as fuck. Zero trouser motion.

My rule is, no need for more polygons if it doesn't add more motion.

My only roster request is a grizzled, too-old-for-this-shit Haggar with a five o' clock shadow and graying hair. He can replace Zangief if need be, who I'm sure will return as DLC or in SSFV.

Alpha brought us Cody, Guy, Rolento, and Sodom, SFIII brought us Hugo, and SFIV brought us Poison. Haggar's time is now.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!

I just meant that he's the only normal dude left, besides Alex (who I forgot about, he probably has a decent chance of returning too). Like, fucking TWELVE is never coming back, for example.

I think the new returnees in V will be Alpha dudes, mostly. Oh, and Skullomania.
