As a long time Alien fan, I never bought what happens in Alien 3 or Resurrection. They're completely disposable sequels story wise. Alien 3 did not give me a buyable follow up to Aliens and Resurrection is straight up fucking garbage. If for whatever reason this movie isn't good, it's not like doing this could possibly bring any more harm to it.

I can live without Resurrection, but as controversial as Alien 3 is, it provided a perfect ending to the franchise, so I'm not ok about removing it from canon.

No, it really didn't.

If anything, Aliens provided the perfect ending, but sadly nobody seemed to realize that and so we get shitty sequel after shitty sequel.

Anything could happen and IMO it can't possibly be any worse. Alien 3 wasn't shitty, but I still didn't care for it or the "closure" they went with. I think by this point everyone knows why those movies were seen as failures to the majority and I don't think Neill will fuck it up. Then again I'm not your typical cynical movie goer that thinks that everything is destined to be fucking terrible. From where I stand this is nothing but good news until further notice.
