Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

MS and HMX have always had a good relationship. I'm sure the abrupt pulling of Kinect hurt it some but between working with them on the Rock Band Network and Dance Central I would not be surprised to see something come of their past relationship.

MS owes Harmonix for the timing of de-bundling Kinect right as Fantasia: Combat Evolved was released.

Eric Pope (HMX) on cross-console DLC transfer

SPOILER:
it's not happening for obvious reasons

Then I read that there will be no Pro Guitar or keyboard support :(

Yet I will buy this.
I really hope that a 360->PS4 transfer will be possible, because I will totally buy this for my PS4. Even if that means that I have to buy new instruments.

As someone who has been satisfied with my 360 for the past 9 years, I haven't jumped in current gen. I was considering a PS4 before, but this decision to carry over songs has pretty much cemented my decision to get an Xbox One when RB4 releases.

Makes me wonder if keys aren't going to be supported in RB4 will you at least have the ability to play the keys in the old DLC at least, considering the functionality is already set up there. Or at least be able to play the DLC's old keys parts on Guitar, like you could in RB3.

It surprises me but I've genuinely got no interest in this at all, if Amplitude wasn't on the way in the next couple of months I probably would be interested but I don't think Harmonix ever matched that game with this series. I'm also very happy not having to bother with toy instruments in Amplitude.

Having said that, I know I'm in a minority so I am glad they're being given the chance to do this...I actually wouldn't mind another Beatles game though as that was by far the best RockBand game for me.

I'm not sure how anyone could realistically expect cross platform DLC transfer when there is absolutely no benefit to Microsoft to help at all on that front.

Thanks. So it looks like the best way to get the previous on-disk songs is to buy used copies of RB1 and 3 and a new copy of RB2? Not sure why RB3 is so pricey for PS3.

Used to play RB on 360, but I stopped after RB2 and only bought around 100 DLC songs, so I'm ok making the switch to PS4. Just seems like a hassle to import previous disk based tracks.

RB3 has been out of print on the PS3 for a couple of years now, and it never got a cheap digital release on that system.

It's pricey because it never got re-released. There's a digital version of Rock Band 3 for 360, and Madcatz republished the disc version, but the PS3 version hasn't gotten a new release of any sort since the original Rock Band 3 release. Such is the issue of not being lead/best selling platform.

Lol I mean blame us as much as MS on that one. The internet kind of gave em no choice on that. If they uttered the work Kinect at any point they were tore apart. It sucked for HMX for sure but they are still making Dance Central DLC so the audience is there.

Well, I need to get an Xbox One now. The ability for the old DLC to come over is a huge thing, and makes me very happy. While I barely played the keyboard in this, it does make me a bit sad that we will be losing it. Anytime there was a gathering, someone always wanted to play them.

If I had Rock Band 1 and 2 but not 3, is it too late to do the song export thing so I can get on-disc content in Rock Band 4? I have to buy 3 and use some kind of download code or something, right? Are those all expired at this point?

Between Sony and Microsoft at this point in time, I could see one of them being on board with this idea... and the other not returning Harmonix's phone calls.

Hell, there are a bunch of songs that MS got licensing deals for (DLC) that Sony didn't. What do you do with those? (Remember, the music companies compete with Sony still in music.) Even if MS & Sony were on board in theory; there's no way you're going to get the music companies on board without driving trucks full of cash over. :(

Yeah, this is going to bum out my gf. She only plays keys, even if it's for guitar or bass parts.

They tend to have some big new artists with each release so I'm curious to see if 4 continues that trend or if the tracklist will largely be returning artists.

So is there any chance that this game is not going to bomb? I'm not sure that the mass market is going to jump back into this which was what made the games such a huge success before.

That's so damn awesome!!! I cannot wait to get started again :)

But.. this sucks

Q: Will my old DLC work if I bought a different next gen console, i.e. Xbox 360 -> PS4?
A: Cross platform DLC compatibility is not entirely within our control, as DLC ownership is managed by the 1st parties.

I had a ton of DLC on the 360, now I switched to PS4....

Meh, might not be worth all the trouble to export. Are those songs available on the RB store, or only available by exporting?

You need 3 to do the export for 2, but in order to do that, you need a copy of RB2 that has the manual, since that's the code you need. RB1 was done entirely inside of that game, so there's no code needed.

I likely will never get an Xbox One, so it appears my 300~ DLC songs will be rotting on my Live account for eternity.

Whether or not I get this for the PS4 at some point in the future depends on:

- Track listing
- Instrument quality
- Price remaining within reason
- Good variety of DLC tracks

I wonder if they could somehow engineer collapsable instruments for better storage.

The GH3 Les Paul had a removable neck. Like most all plastic instruments, though, it had a fatal flaw that discouraged you from removing/reassembling the instrument too many times.

The Drums have always been collapsible and didn't require tools, but were just a pain to reassemble.

Do Activision still have the rights to Metallica? Harmonix had to remove their Metallica tracks from Rock Band because of it.

i hope they port songs over faster than they have for Dance Central Spotlight. matter of fact, im sure they will. they dont seem very keen on supporting that

Ok. And there is no export for 3?

I might have the manual for RB2 somewhere but damn that sucks. Could I just rebuy it?

I already have RB1 exported.

Thanks

Most important thing for parties and my wife is vocal harmonies. My wife doesn't like playing the instruments, but always enjoyed singing along. And harmonies are where things really shine at a party.
No pro mode means this will be the first Rock Band game I don't buy. I can't go back.

At least we have pro drums still. Thank god.

Doubtful; Metallica songs were often banned from transferring between games. They haaaate licensing and are pains in the ass about it.

This is the best news in a while. I'm super stoked! Curious to see the tracklist, hope its lengthy!

Never bought any dlc for the past rock band games, so I hope that besides the transfer you can also buy anything from the current library.

No one has the rights for Metallica now. All Guitar Hero Metallica tracks have been removed from the digital stores a long time ago.
