Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

This is amazing news, especially because you can bring across your entire library.

I really hope you can also use the old wireless instruments, because I still have mine laying around in the garage and I'd hate to send them to a landfill just to buy new ones when what I've got already works great. Maybe they could make a wireless dongle that they could connect to.

Well, my mom was certainly thrilled to hear about this...before realizing it's not coming to the PS3.

lol, my mother was like "should I buy you an XB1 for your birthday now so we can play it?"

She knows I haven't bought any next gen stuff due to lack of interest but that was her first message as a reply to my "omg RB4" haha.

No keyboard support means I won't pre-order or purchase day one.
The way pro drums is handled this time around will decide if I buy this game. Here's hoping they found a way to fix those pro drum like the RBN Bang Camaro songs. And a more proper charting of the hi-hat.

I'm really excited to play a new Rock Band! Hopefully they will finally get some Eagles songs in there.
I don't remember how I got this, but I have an extra Green Day Rock Band export code for Xbox 360. If it still works, I think it is redeemed through the redeem a code section within RB3. Note that it does cost $10 to export.
First person to quote this post gets the code!

Awesome news, super stoked!

Glad all my DLC will transfer over. I wonder if the on disc songs from the previous games will be able to be transferred as well?

I only have various Guitar Hero guitars since the RB ones were always garbage. Hopefully those will work or the new guitar is actually good.

I'll take that and hope it works.

I'd like to see them recreate this video to be honest.

Managed to get into my old Xbox Live account, and even transfer my Dance Central DLC to Xbox One, the process was really easy and made me even more excited for RB4

Aw, I'd forgotten all about that. That's one way to deal with leaks. Harmonix always seem to come across well on video, lest we forget their Kickstarter pitch for Amplitude.

Ugh, am I going to have to buy a XBOX One just for this shit? Goddangit. I knew transferring across platforms was unlikely, but still disappointing.

That said, so glad to see it back.

I wonder if they can do some sort of content transfer between platforms , similar to how if you had a GTA5 online account on 360 , you can transfer it to PS4.

nope, they've said that's a literal rat's nest of politics

GTA5 was able to do it since it was just stats stored server side, not actual songs with licenses and purchasing rights, and also because it's Rockstar, they can get first party to let them do anything

That sucks , I only bought like 5 songs on 360 so its not a total loss for me. Sucks for people that put a lot of money into the game though.

Also they have an account system with the Rockstar Social Club

Gotta have software to grow that base, but we get handed the usual PR line instead...

I mean, it'll have been 3 years by the time RB4 comes out that the Wii U has been out. If it can't grow an audience with initial third party titles, Nintendo titles, and innovative control methods, then a ~$200 party game is not going to turn its fortunes, or make a profit for Harmonix.

Business ain't a charity. Harmonix has to see a way to profitability on a platform to support it, which they apparently don't see on the Wii U. Go take your complaints to Nintendo.

I still have this, I hope they make it work:

I'm expecting Mad Catz to lean towards a Wii U release more if GH announces for Wii U. However, there's also the unfortunate reality that Wii U has already been opened up and Harmonix would have no security on that version, while the PS4 and One haven't been broken into yet. Nobody is going to be pirating RB4 songs.

I do too! It's my only working guitar (from any game)

I should be happy about this news, but I bought all of my DLC for 360 and I'd rather cut off my own dick than give MS's console division any more money.

Shit, I'm going to have to buy a PS3 Hofner Controller. That's my favorite of all fake plastic rock, but I only have it for 360 and have no plans to buy a Bone.

I have one of those I found cheap at Microcenter. Great guitar for the game. I'm a little too excited about this since it was pretty clear the announcement was coming no later than pax. Now we just need a few more details and I'll be set.

Oh yes!
I have all of RB disc transfers on the 360, along with 500 or so extra DLC songs. RB4 is gonna be awesome!

Bring it on Harmonix!

Guess I'll be getting an Xbone now....

Sony should really aggressively pursue cross-platform compatibility.
Waste a lot of money on legal stuff, for a third party that has a game that might be dead on arrival as the plastic guitar fad faded years ago, only to see themselves not get a cut of that dlc at all? (I still play rock band a few times a month for the record :P)

Sony would rather ignore that, and hope people just rebuy songs on the ps4 so they can get money for it instead of wasting money for a game that isn't even exclusive to their platform.

the only way at all they maybe would have fought for cross platfrom compatibility is if it got them rock band 4 exclusively.

I mean I will be buying the game, am excited for the game, and hoping it does well but it's far from guranteed that the game will do well, especially if guitar hero is announced for the fall as well as activision has enough money and power to make the average person go "Rock Band, a game you play music with? You mean guitar hero right?"

I feel for you guys that changed platforms and have to decide if you would rather buy a $400 console or rebuy $400+ in dlc though. I was personally worried before it was confirmed that only the 360 to xbox one would have legacy dlc given the previous favoritism to rock band on the 360.

For me it's twofold. I have a ton of dlc AND a ton of instruments. I would really rather not buy new instruments. So a $400 investment will be well worth it.

Damn, I was going to get an XB1 eventually, but considering all of my old RB DLC is on my 360 and I won't be able to use that on my PS4 I guess I'll be getting an XB1 this year.

I still have a bunch of instruments myself, and I could see that being a bit of an issue, but at least around me if I did a full trip to the thrift stores in the area I could likely put a full band kit (two guitar, drums, mic) together for either platform for $25 or so.

I'm not saying it isn't worth getting the console just for the game though. I mean I've mentioned before I have close to 1k extra songs in rock band, we are talking well over $500 of songs thus I would have a serious choice to make if I had switched platforms. I'd still likely just rebuy the songs I really liked and play on my old version though. As for the instruments, I am expecting the new ones to have some new features on them that will be optional, but change how the game is played a bit, likely related to interacting with other band members.

So I get that you can use previously released DLC in this new game, but as someone who didnt own RB3, will I have the option to buy these DLC songs again in the new game?
