DF : Is DmC Devil May Cry Definitive Edition a worthy upgrade?

Maybe it's less of a PS4 issue and more of a dev kit / middle ware issue? Maybe PS4 just doesn't offer a convenient or well-performing standard-implementation of AF, whereas Xbone does. That would be my guess at least.
That would still be a PS4 issue.

Well, Dark Souls 2 doesn't have AF problem on PS4.

I'm pretty sure he means that maybe it's not a hardware issue, but a software issue. Most games show that you can get AF working on the PS4 just fine, so it might just require a little more work on PS4 than Xbox One when using specific engines.

Game literally looking like shit in direct comparison is probably worth that "tiny bit of work".

Look at the Stryder debacle ...

Can anybody actually ask Sony to answer ? (I assume they will ignore small people) Cause when it was somewhat small games we could understand, but here ? That was a full fledge AAA and it's looking like crap compared to PC and Xbox ONE, it gotta be looked into.

A ICE guy already answered and this is not a problem inherent to the machine. Carelessness most likely.

Anyway for those who only played the 30fps editions this new version is big enough step up. No reason to pass on it.

Hardware or software, it would still make it a PS4 issue.

Yeah, but not an unfixable hardware issue, Sony could just improve their middle ware. Whereas Xbone's problems when compared to PS4 usually are unfixable hardware issues.

Well, Dark Souls 2 doesn't have AF problem on PS4.
What does this say wrt my assertion? Just because the standard implementation is worse than the one on Xbone does not mean it's completely useless and also a developer might implement a better solution themselves.

Huh, the intro sequence was re-done at 60 fps in a higher resolution. PC version used a low quality 30 fps video. Very nice.

Somehow being in 60 fps makes the game look uglier. It's probably because you can more easily see how bad the animations are, especially with larger enemies. Also it's easier to see how janky the combat is. I'll wait for the DMC4 remaster.

Possible.

This just seems like an irrelevant jab.
Probably because I'm a Sony fanboy who has never bought a Sony home console (found a PS1 and my fiancée bought a PS2 before we knew each others though) and hate Microsoft's console business (having bought a 360 at launch and a Bone mid of last year). Sorry about being rude, I can't help it.

People are so goddamn defensive anytime Df comes up.

A few games running better on the Xbone isnt the end of the world.

so you admit it. i'll have you nailed to a lump of wood for it.

From what I've played it really is a near perfect 60 fps on ps4. Any of the hitches, and they are minor, seem to be related to loading new data between areas - something very common with ue3 games on the PC as well.

The only real issue I'm seeing is lack of AF.

We don't know that it 'runs better' yet. Just that it has better AF.

It is when there is absolutely no reason justifying why it runs better.

Plus the games look god awful because of that AF debacle.

Come on dude. While PS4 has better specs than the Xbox One, so there is no reason why it should look that much worse (if anything it should look the same or better, not MUCH worse).

This sounds great, I hope it also holds for the Bone.

As has been said xbox has a better cpu and UE3 favours single threaded performance in which the x1 is better.

Maybe they had to cut down on features to get it to hold that 60fps

I didn't mean to attack you, it's just that I think this is not irrelevant. The reason I'd call it "not a PS4 issue", if my guess was true, but a "Sony issue" instead, would be just that, whereas Microsoft can work as hard as they want to develop a fantastic middle ware (which I trust they do, they are a good software company), they cannot overcome hardware issues such as the slower RAM and the weaker GPU. So if games cannot run in a higher resolution or have framerate issues, because the assets cannot be loaded fast enough, whereas they can be on PS4, I'd call that an "Xbone problem", whereas having a worse middle ware in some way I'd call a problem based on the middle ware producer rather than the hardware itself.

We have no idea what sort of improvements are possible, though. Just because something is software-related doesn't mean its automatically fixable.

It could be some combination of hardware and software, too. We really don't know. Its strange.

We don't know this, yes, but considering how close PS4 and Xbox One are architecturally, it's highly unlikely it's a hardware issue. Considering AF is a GPU feature and the PS4 is, to my knowledge, a strictly superior variation of the Bone's (meaning it is in each field at least equal and in some superior), the AF issue almost certainly is a software issue. If Xbone outperforms PS4 on CPU-heavy tasks, that might very well be a hardware issue though.

The AF disparity needs addressing and it's so frustrating to not know why PS4 is a piss poor console to attain that in comparison to xbone destitute having better hardware.

Over your head eh? He said it's not Sony's problem to fix. MS has worked with developers to improve resolution, whilst also improving the SDK in that area.
Sony doesn't have a shit peripheral to cut that can open up additional resources for devs. The most they could do is force them topimplement things like Microsoft did with Diablo 3. This seems to be a problem with specific devs and engines if they don't use the resources what do you want Sony to do. It's the same for MS is it their fault that hardline is 720p.

7 confirmed games, most using ue3.

There are more 720p games on xbox one than there are games with less AF on ps4.

its not a issue.

Of course it is, maybe it's less of a problem than on Xbox One then, if that wording pleases you, but it's 2015, neither platform should have any issues with AF, 16X should be the norm.

It's true that, while AF issues have been common on ps4, it's only ue3 games that seem to lack AF completely.

I don't know. I can see it but.... we should stop helping DF put food on their table.

I doubt anything will happen, something could happen. Either way games will be sold, money will be made. It's a non issue really. This is a very small corner in a very large room that's in a big house on a wide street, easily lost.

An ICE Team member states that it's not hardware related.

General opinion on which version to get? Have both consoles, want to get the best version.

This sentence contradicts itself in just a few words :)
Buy PC, get PC version
but I guess you want to know which console version is the best but I would be surprised if it's not PS4 version so I don't know what you are waiting for unless AF is important for you)
.

PC version doesn't have the new costumes, modes and balance changes.

Maybe related to the type of engine: full deferred, , semi differed, Forward+ etc..

Sounds like all types of engines have been accounted for there.

Even the order 1886 has mediocre AF; thankfully it does at least have it. I can't recall this being a huge issue last gen. It goes to show that upping the overall fidelity requires improved filtering.

Haha I doubt my laptops 8800m GT would be able to run it at 60fps :P Yeah I will probably just get it on PS4.

Question when did Digital Foundry start?

Like don't get me wrong what they do is a service but it serves a niche group of people who are concerned with the say finer aspects of fidelity.

You don't see graphical/fps comparisons at stores where games are sold or anywhere it would have a consumer impact?
