Bloodborne: Impressions After 40 Hours (EDGE)

So, is this the moment where Miyazaki officially jumps the shark? This seems like a really quick cash-in by From.

Merchant sells a clip-on lantern (hello Demon's Souls augite)

lol, ripped right out of Dragon's Dogma

Yharnam spends the game in the grip of a perpetual night

Guess the puny PS4 hardware couldn't handle a lightning system capable of showing different times of day.

Description on the first shield they found

lol, didn't all the previews say no shields? Guess they moved on from graphics downgrades to gameplay downgrades.

Transforming strikes and their follow-up attacks give you a way of reaching enemies that in other Souls games might be out of reach because they were pushed back by your earlier attacks

I guess casulization was to be expected in a peasant exclusive.

Surplus items are automatically sent to a storage box, and if you die your items are replenished from the box automatically

Further peasantization. I guess inventory management would be too much to ask of consolites.

Very few chests

Well, I guess that's one way for the developers to lighten their workload.

Only found 6 or so weapons and 6 or so guns in 40 hours

And I guess that's the other way. C team confirmed. I guess the fanboys will find a way to justify it. "Balance" seems to be the currently most common talking point.

They did not beat the game but they feel like it is less replayable than its predecessors

I wouldn't count on that. What other games would PS4 owners play?

We spent the rest of the level panning the camera endlessly for unseen threats, no longer scared of dying, but of moving. Imagine a whole game of that.

Shit camera confirmed.

There is a new mechanic they are not allowed to discuss

Watch this be a way to include microtransactions. $0.99 to skip the loading screen?

After reading this I feel very comfortable in being able to skip the inevitable PC port, and save my money for the Summer Sale instead.

The low weapon count seems nice to me, hopefully they're all useful and serve a role.

I'd rather have that than hundreds of weapons go unused like in the other games.

The Future Press guide is 400 pages. Based on DkS1 and 2 guides they don't dick about with filler so there must be more weapons than Eggs in a carton :-D

Salt?
Edit: Oh trolling? never mind then.

Geesh. Way to go. People like you make me want to stop reading forums sometimes... Did your day really become better when you decided to waste a few minutes shitting on a game that's not even out yet? Or is this just about stirring the crap in the pot to see what kind of exciting reactions and potentially spicy debates it creates?

Here's my take on the weapon "fiasco":

The previous games had tons of different style of weapons that were similar but had different movesets. Given that we are now moving into the territory of transformable weapons with a bigger emphasis on moveset diversity (and probably playstyle diversity), having a reduction in weapons doesn't seem bad.

However, as we don't have hard facts, I think its a bit pointless to speculate.

And we have our first victim:

Guys... that must be the most utterly blunt and obvious sarcasm / troll post I've seen in the history of mankind.

Check his post history. He's just playing around.

This doesn't really make any sense in context of the series. Demon's souls and dark souls 1 didn't add any new enemies based on playthrough, everything was just made more difficult.

it's not what I mean.
The writer was talking about the Depths in Dark Souls, if you remember this moment:
There is a moment in Dark Souls that we will never forget: down in the Depths, picking up an item from a corpse and a slime dropping onto our head

I'm guessing that more enemies will take the player by surprise like the example above and during a second playthrough we will know where those "surprise enemies" are.

Do we know if the aliasing is as bad as that video suggested a few weeks ago or has it improved in the final build? It was atrocious in that video.

As much as GAF likes to think of this as Dark Souls 3, it's not.

It's a new IP, there are no previous games

Realistically what could you transform the Katana into? And who is to say it is not in there in some form (Katana to Twin-Blade perhaps) -

Katana to twinblade would be awesome.

I'm very excited to read the impressions so far. I'm happy the game is adding enough to make it feel new enough but also having elements of familiarity. Kind of how Kings field to Demon's souls is (though 1st person to 3rd person is more of a drastic change, so maybe less drastic). I think the Souls games turned out to be some of my absolute favorites of last generation, but I was also feeling some fatigue from the familiar formula, so I'm excited that there are new things in here. I can't say if it'll all work or not until I get my hands on it, but I can't wait!

I've answered knowing fully well the question, thank you. In fact, I forgot to add in the spear also.

Wow so you actively switched between halbard, sword, medium size sword, big ass sword, hammers, whips, daggers, maces and spears during a single playthrough. Thats pretty amazing, 10 different weapons aswell as alternate versions readily swapping in the midst of battle.

unless you mean you used one for a bit then swapped for something else.

To be clear he never finished it in 40 hours

I know, I was just reflecting on the relatively smaller range of loots they'd come across in that time and thinking that it seems unlikely to be indicative of the game as a whole.

Going back to Demon's there was a whole bunch of items that you could only get by changing world/character tendency, and I suspect the system that they aren't allowed to disclose is something that operates on those lines.

To be truthful also, I'd say that all the previous Souls games kinda suffered a bit from making armour drops too common from scrub enemies, forcing you to faff about with inventory management until you could finally unload all the duplicates at a convenient npc.
That's one thing I'd like not to have to deal with, minor inconvenience or not.

Lol i hope this is some sarcasm right here boy

Wasn't there a Sword-Whip weapon alluded to?

Also 40 hours, I wonder how far they got. 10 hours with Cleric Beast, another 10 hours with Priest Gascione, and the 20 hours trying to kill Darkbeast lighting skeleton. Then they called it quits.

You're either a decent troll or a salty douchebag :p

IMO -- You can make really pretty faces in both dark souls games. So I would be surprised if it weren't possible in Bloodborne.

Here are some of my dark souls 1 characters:

Show me a beautiful guy., girls are easier.

I had to spent 5 hours to create a "Leon" replica in Dark souls 1 ... (because had to restart game after becoming human...)

My post was a semi joke anyway ;D .
