Why are people so obsessed with Bloodborne?

It's From best game, the most unique and the one that convinced them to up the pace of the games who came after.

The exclusivity reason is nonsense and Demons Souls, another great game, is there to confirm it. Bloodborne's bosses, combat and map design is a standout in the industry.

The Rally System,. trick weapons, forcing the player to be more aggressive, the "vibes", the level design, the soundtrack.

The art direction alone inspired many games in other genres that directly cite it.

All we need is a PC release.

This feels very honest. Do you think improved graphics + framerate would be enough to get you to replay what would arguably be the same game?
In this case, yes, as it would feel just like replaying Red Dead Redemption after quite some time on PC at 4K/60fps coming from a last playthrough of the game at sub-HD/25-30fps on PS3.

Comparatively speaking, it is no different than buying the 4K Blu-ray version of a favorite movie you already own in either DVD or Blu-ray format – all with the goal of experiencing it once again.

Because it's one of the best games ever made, but handicaped by being stuck with low fps and terrible frame pacing.
Performance is utterly terrible, sadly.
The PC mod version shows how the game could and should be these days.
This.
A PC/PS5 could solve the performance problems and elevate this masterpiece even higher.

Because it's by far Sony's best exclusive game in the last three gens and somehow the only one they haven't bothered remastering 10 times.

Werewolves. Lovecraft. Mindflayer. Hunters Dream. Bosses. Atmosphere. Cthulu.

To the people who can't tell a difference go read HP.

Personally, I had a real special time with the game. It has nothing to do with the hype.

First time I played it I couldn't get into it but then I gave it another shot and finished it. Liked it but didn't love it by any stretch. Then I somehow stumbled accross this playthrough from EpicNameBro where he explained a lot of the lore and showed all the areas I missed. Made me replay the game and fall in love with it now that I somewhat understood the lore.

What truly made the game special for me then was the Paleblood Hunt and the almost complete unraveling of the lore I got with it. Replaying the game after that made it my all time favorite.

"Breaking news! Today, in a lab in New Zealand, scientists have made a breakthrough discovery that human like things that are good and enjoyable..............hold on there seems to be some sort of update on this situation, it turns out it makes them want more good and enjoyable things!" I hope this fake news broadcast helps answer your question OP.

Because it's a fantastic game, maybe the best souls of Fromsoftware. It's also the 3D Castlevania we'll never have, yet still keep dreaming about. It deserves to be played again on modern systems, with a bit more framerate, a touch of polish, and a few brand-new extra modes. Whether it also comes to PC, Nintendo, and Xbox hardly matters.

So I guess a good point of comparison (at least until very recently) would be MGS4?

I never had an issue with the fps when I played, but I'm also a dumb pleb. I can understand how the 30fps could be a deal-breaker for some, but I also thought Bloodborne looked a lot better than DSII, despite the latter's "improved" visuals
I doubt anyone in this planet think that ds2 looks better than bloodborne.

Maybe you meant ds3.

To be honest, its just a good reason for people to piss and moan about Sony.

Here's the plain truth; FROM could patch the game anytime they fucking want. Sony aren't going to complain because there's no conceivable reason to especially as nearly all their first party titles have been patched to support unlocked frame-rates.

But of course, FROM are above criticism so is just HAS to be bad old Sony.

Sure, Sony as -at least- joint holder of the IP can decide what to do with the Bloodborne property (sequels, ports etc.), but again despite their other activity in the PC space allegedly don't want to ?

To be honest, I think the canary in the coalmine is the lack of a port of Demons' remake to PC... very strange as they've ported most of their first party outside of obvious mascot titles like Astrobot. And again, look who's their partner on that product...

It's a fantastic game and felt like one of those combinations of cool shit pulled straight from my brain. I already loved Demon's and Dark Souls and this game kicked it up a notch in every way for me.

It being "stuck" in a rather not optimal state makes it very enticing to keep wanting a remaster.

It's really not some grand conspiracy.

I'm here to tell you you aren't alone OP. I've played them all (outside DS2) and for me Elden Ring is their peak. Closely followed by Sekiro and DS3. Bloodborne is amazing, but I cannot agree with people saying it's their best game. 100% in the minority here but it is what it is. If there's one thing though that I have to admit BB is absolutely best at, is the lore and world. That gothic + cosmic horror mix is just *wow*. Chef's kiss. But even beyond comparing our tastes and opinions, the biggest reason is simply that it's one of their masterpiece "collection" so to speak, that is stuck on PS4 for absolutely no good reason. It sticks out like a sore thumb and when you see what Sony has been priortizing it stings even more.

Atleast there's emulation. Gotta count your blessings.

  1. It's an exclusive game.
  2. It's tied to an ecosystem that doesn't offer many improvements for the game.

If it were also on PC, people probably wouldn't talk much about it anymore, because the exclusivity would be gone and it would already be nicely modded and running smoothly.
I mean it kind of already is the best way to play now. Shadps4 on PC is pretty good.

Platform exclusivity. And 30fps with frame pacing judder is annoying enough that it's perfectly fine to want an improved version.

Because it's not on PC. That's the literal only reason why it's mentioned at all these days in public discourse.
Doesn't even matter whether it's dogshit or a masterpiece. The entire discussion surrounding it has devolved into this single point.

You think PS5 owners are happy that only crappy PS4 version is available?

Who knows. Maybe one day it will be on PC and I'll try it and find out. I suspect it's the usual FROM fanboy glazing though and it's basically reskinned Dark Souls 3 with some minor gameplay tweaks, at least from what (admittedly) small amount of footage I've seen.

Bloodborne does not feel like Souls.

Sekiro is closer to Blooborne in the gameplay department.
Sekiro is slightly different, but it's still 95% Dark Souls.

All of the games feel like Souls. Dodge powerful attacks, learn timing.

They adjust the weapons and locations, and Sekiro and Bloodborne adjust some gameplay mechanics, but this is all from the same template.

Like a jump button from Mario.

It is one of the best games ever. It is that simple.

Glad I can play it very well on my PC now - it's the 'remaster' we deserve with properly frame paced 60 fps and a crisp resolution. It's all the game really needs. Sony doesn't seem to care about the game at all. And if they do something they'll probably end up making a bad PS6 exclusive remake that butchers the original artstyle.

Like Call of Duty.

Dark Souls is Call of Duty 4.

Bloodborne is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Elden Ring is Black Ops.

But they have reused the template so much now that they are gonna start making generic games, like Call of Duty Ghosts. It's just a matter of time.

Come at me Softboys.

It was the first souls game with broader appeal due to it's aesthetics. Women lets players liked it, hipsters liked it, so it reached critical mass when, before, the dark souls games were ... not obscure, but more of a meme in the wider gaming community. Personally I think bloodbourne killed off the potential of this genre just when it was becoming popular. Calling these games 'souls like' feels wrong, because pretty much every game like this made after that, were designed like bloodbourne, not dark souls. Dark souls combat is methodical, tactical AND scrategic, but souls fans diss the strategic part as 'gimiky', i.e. if you can figure out a way to get an edge in a boss fight, that's a poorly designed fight. Bloodbourne combat is just dodgeslop. It's the first souls game where, to win most boss fights, you basically need to get your ass kicked 20+ times before the fight idly becomes second nature to you. Simon says tier. It's no wonder why all games made after it were more bloodbourne than dark souls, making "gimicky" fights require creativity, making dodgeslop just has the devs make the boss flail around a bunch and then see if anyone on the team can eventually survive that onslought. You can then mass produce these encounters, only having to worry about the aesthetics of the boss and how it fits in the story. Don't get me wrong, I like bloodbourne, but I think fromsoft's previous formula was far better and I resent it for supplanting it.
