Giant Bombcast - 03/10/15

You missed a podcast with actual intelligent discussion and knowledge sharing but yeah you're happy for dumb Dan. Speaks volumes.

Look at this guy. In the GiantBomb thread shitting on people enjoying dumb fun...

Are you Dan in disguise?

But monster hunter IS bad though... Dan's clearly not lying.

Dan plays characters and it works!
I mean, I don't deny that he has his fans and I'm perfectly fine if people like his schtick. I'm just not one of them, and I'm feeling a bit sad about it because I went from being a decade-plus old listener/watcher of Jeff/Ryan to now seeking other podcasts to listen to and twitch streams to watch.

I like Dan a LOT, but jesus does the act get grating sometimes with shit like pretending to not know they didn't have McDonalds in North Korea and the mortgage nonsense

Sincere Dan on Danswers is a lot more enjoyable than troll Dan

Dan is such a natural extension of Giant Bomb and the perfect addition to me.

You're objectively crazy if you don't enjoy his presence on the site. Just like Monster Hunter is objectively bad, plays are objectively dumb and wrestling is objectively a cool thing for adults.

Straight facts.

Don't forget, Dan apparently never heard of the movie Frozen.

Where'd you get the idea that I like Dan? I have absolutely no interest in Japanese games and, as such, I had absolutely no interest in last week's episode.

It was literally after that podcast with the mortgage nonsense that I stopped listening to the show all together. I like when they talk about games but when they spend 20-30 minutes explaining to somebody the merits of a mortgage only for the guy to act like a complete idiots it's a waste of my time and and insult to my intelligence.

"Japanese games" is a pretty enormous swathe of hugely various games to write off. Not that you're not entitled to do that, it's just a little difficult to believe.

Wait, Jeff eats pizza with knife and fork? I thought you were cool! :P

That Sonic talk just....made no sense. That's exactly what they did with Xtreme and beyond with the franchise. S4 was a return to Genny form.

I really hate when they say stuff like, "Yeah, we played Ori, but for our thoughts, go check out the quick look." They can't sum up their thoughts right there? Especially if they thought it was a great game? Part of the reason I listen to the Bombcast is for impressions on new games, so it's rather annoying when they try to direct you to other content.

I wasn't particularly interested in Ori, but that would annoy me if I was. And they admittedly know they have Bombcast listeners who never check out the main site.

that is annoying. and weird, considering Brad was all over that game

Yeah, I was looking forward to them talking about it more. And I had watched the quick look before listening to this episode.

Completely disgusted at Jeff for eating pizza with a knife and fork. What a god damn monster. Way worse than anything Dan has ever said.

I finally remembered what Dans situation reminds me of

Listened last night and this morning. Dan said something along the lines of "I guarantee that I would do ______ better" and I found it absolutely hilarious. I can't remember what it was regarding though -_-

Jeff has talked about how well the podcast does and I wouldn't be surprised if more people listen to the podcast than actually go to the site. So I don't mind them trying to get more people to the site. It is a business, after all. If you want Brad's impressions, watch the quick look. If that's too much of a chore for you, you must not want to know about the game too badly.

Dan not liking Monster Hunter was completely obvious. It's similar to his dislike for mobas. They require investment, commitment and gratification is delayed instead of instant. They're anti-Dan games.

Edit: about the level of critical discourse - remember when Patrick used to try out something new and then came back on the bombast and could coherently explain and argument his opinion while making it clear that he has understood the underlying systems and engaged with them? Good times. Dan is the kind of person who refuses to properly engage with something daunting and is happier brushing it aside and bathes in his own ignorance ad of out were a valid stance on the same level of the people who actually did engage with it.

Which, as a whole, is fine on a personal level, but probably not the best base to critically talk about something from.

Meh, I feel you could say the same thing about any of the Giant Bomb guys besides Patrick.

Also, Monster Hunter's "onboarding" still kinda sucks. What Dan says about the game isn't really that off-base if you realize he's essentially basing his judgement on an extended tutorial.

I feel a quicklook and podcast discussion about a game are kinda two different things though. During a quicklook most of their attention is focused on playing the game, and it's generally only two people.

I remember Jeff talking about how they're thinkin about doing a podcast where they go in depth with reviews and games they've finished. Kind of like an audio review, since they don't talk much about every game they've been playing on the podcast.

yeah I dont remember any of them being able to explain why they like or dislike a game or mechanics besides saying it's cool or bad, but then again very few 'videogame journalists' are actually able to do that

now maybe if they got Jason on the show...

I think he said he could escape a prison in one year.

I'm.not sure whether to believe his ignorance on North Korea though.

Someone clearly didn't listen to the podcast. Dan said that the controls feel unresponsive and really slow, complained how you had to keep sheathing to do anything but attack and also complained about how you had to keep picking one thing up at a time. And Brad countered by saying its slower mechanics works in the design of the game and doesn't need to be fast paced like a devil may cry in order to have good combat.

You shouldn't slander people if you can't even remember what they said.

But I agree that it's a discussion they shouldn't have until Dan plays a little more of it (like he said he would) and Jason needs to be on the podcast since Brad and Drew didn't play remotely enough of it to say otherwise.

Dont listen to it this week either because they talk about Monster Hunter and Metal Gear!
also dropfall or dropwater or wtfever that japanese indie game is

actually they've talked about zelda since february also...

I dont know what i'd do without a bombcast for 9 months

Outside of the pause thing, I dont see any problems with his complaints
