this is a christian, family-friendly forum

thanks

You just reminded me of websites that rate games based on how Christian they are. Wonder whether the sites still exist.

The thing that I love about what has been shown so far in regards to this game is that it captures the feel of the early trailers. FF13's first trailers had a completely different feel from the games they delivered. With FF15 they aren't making the same mistake twice.

Interesting, since a lot of people complains the recent trailers doesn't have the same "dark" feel of the early Versus ones.

Demo and the game installed and ready , 17th NEED TO COME NOW

back to studying :(

:'( *sobbing profusely* It is still not up for install for PSN NA! The fact that its going to be around 26 GB compounded with my slow ass internet........ *more sobbing*.....

Cancelled my Wal-Mart preorder, since it was either going to arrive at my house by March 25th, or I could pick it up in a store after March 30th. Fuck that.

I hate giving up the price I had preordered it for ($40) but I ain't waiting that long. Got it from Best Buy with GCU so I'm all set!

Just saw a copy of the game being sold in a store. But it's the EU version so that means the demo will be only unlocked on Friday so didn't buy it. It's also probably the cheapest, at S$69.90. Local copies will retail at 10 dollars more.

So tempting!

And Sony's super slow download servers :/ if you're lucky you might still get to play it before FFXV releases.

Since there isn't so much to talk about until the 17th, i guess we can go a little off topic.

What and how many types of weapon do you think Noctis can use? We've seen swords spears and greatswords, plus if he can use Ignis knives and Prompto's gun it would make 5. Katanas? Axrs/Maces? More ranged weapons like rifle or (lol)bazookas?

Also, what other locations/enviroments do you expect will see? We already have plains (Duscae) and possibly a mountainous valley (Lesthallum), i'd like to see a canyon or a desert, a huge forest, snowy area, and some seashore.

I dream of this reaching FFXII level of locales variety.

From "EoFF interviews Orion Acaba, the voice of Nine in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD!":
"EoFF: How does the recording process work? Do you get to spend time with any of your fellow voice actors, or do you record separately? Does it vary by what game you're doing at the time?
OA: I was alone. 90% of the time you will be alone doing voiceover. Every now and then they will throw the cast in with eachother. I believe they did that for Final Fantasy XV, I'm not sure. It would have been nice to have other people in the booth, but most of the time when doing voiceover work, it's always one person doing solo performances."

I hope he's true. I would love to someday see a quality, Naughty Dog-like voice direction in a FF with the actors together on stage/in the booth plus some additional improvised, natural sounding lines. Hell, they should just treat the English VA as their main one for future FFs and hire some good directors and translators that work directly with the SE writers (who should finally be replaced, too, now that every other department has gotten so much fresh blood). The western market will only get more relevant for FF's console future, at least if FFXV will be a hit which I truly hope - I don't want to lose the AAA mainline :(

They should always have the cast record their lines together when they share scenes. It's really the best way to get the most out of their performances and have the banter feel real and connected.

That's probably difficult for a game that's not similar to FFXV.

It's doable for that game because there's only four (known) main characters, but with other Final Fantasy games where there's like at least 6 characters per party it gets really difficult to manage everyone's schedules.

It's obviously a bit more hack'n'slash and all real-time, but it feels very RPG-like. The main concern you'll have when in combat is mana regeneration. No mana, no dodging. And when you know that (in the demo at least) you'll be fighting 5-20 enemies (buffalos + hounds + imperial troops) at the same time, then you realize how important handling your mana is. Going in with "dodge" activated all the time will just play in your disadvantage.

The parry button has to be pressed twice, one time to effectively block the attack and one time to counter-attack. When a party member is low on health, you just run to him and press X to give him a health boost.

Your summonable weapons can be placed in a certain order, so there's quite a bit of playing around with combos. On top of that, you can switch special attacks during combat in a very smooth way.

I don't know if there was a quick-button for potions, but I just went (smoothly) into the menu and used a couple. Especially at night (and since it was my first time playing) the fights are quite hard. The little goblins in particular are nasty little buggers.

The demo is quite big too. I played for about an hour and saw only a small portion of the map. The demo covers about 5%, so I was told. The Square employee also said, and I quote: "I think XV will be a bigger game than VII." Perhaps a very bold statement, but nonetheless, I was very impressed. He also said that there were a lot of surprises to discover in the demo.

That's all I'm gonna say for now. The demo is just around the corner and it's always more fun to experience those things first hand.

So my first exposure to a FF title and turn based combat was a demo for FF7. My firt reaction upon getting into battle was "Why cant I block? Why cant I run up and hit them? Why am I standing in a line? How do I dodge"....so after 15 years I finally get to play the game I wanted to play way back when.

I hope they release the demo for like a $10 purchase in a few months.....2 hours is pretty meaty

They probably won't take back this promise that the demo is only available with Type-0 purchase.

They won't, but even if they did, it'd be $20 at the very least.

At this point it'd have to be pretty expensive because of what they've done tie-ing it to Type-0. "But you got Type-0" would be a laughable defense considering it shouldn't be $60.

Why exactly shouldn't Type-0 HD be $60? Brand new game never released outside of Japan. A graphical overhaul (yeah you can tell it was a psp game but it still looks a lot better and a lot more work was put into it than any other remaster out there). If it had already released on the psp and was localized years ago, sure.. $40 would make more sense but this isn't the case. I would pay $60 for type 0 even if the game didn't come with the ffxv demo.

It started as a mobile game for a start.

doubt it, but i believe they are considering releasing another demo (TGS tech demo) in the future. I believe it will consist of this small area.

oh here's magic for the doubters ;P

And from my personal experience that's exactly what especially a lot of young people who otherwise would like to play FFs are thinking these days. Many of them are only now interested in the series because turn-based battles turned them off completely.
Let's face it, there really wasn't any other way than what FFXV does to open the series up for a new generation of players who sees no reason why they would be forced to stand still while all this crazy stuff happens on screen. It's feels outdated and not engaging to a modern mainstream audience.

Ah well, I just hope it'll be available a little earlier through the search function so I can still play it tomorrow evening.

Not necessarily, Tabata could easily be moved onto Type-1 after FFXV (XV sequels and/or the need for Tabata to direct them is a discussion entirely on it's own). Specially if the interest in such a game is high enough.

You know, Tabata could just be directing more than one game together like many other directors before him and currently are doing in S-E.

wasn't that reason they gave Nomura the boot cause he was overwhelmed with work? so he could put all his concentration into KH3?

Industry standard is 2-3 games remastered for $40. SE themselves have adhered to this practice in like four releases, just off the top of my head, which makes Type-0 even more glaring; it isn't like they don't know the drill.

I'm glad that you would pay $60 for it even minus the demo. There are many games I've bought at full price and loved to the point I'd pay double what I did. But I haven't played Type-0; all I can do is compare the competition and it's a raw deal.

I mean...Im in my mid 20s, not like Im a highschooler or something. I think Final Fantasy has had a problem specifically with its turn based combat especially around 12 which was literally based around automating a lot of the traditional combat responses such as when to use healing item, when to use specials, etc. A lot of FF combat had become fairly tropy with adverse effects, buffs, enemy types etc. The player has mostly automated responses to these battle situations.

I think stepping away from the prescriptive nature of Final Fantasy combat (If A happens, 90% of the time you should do B) is a good step to take to mix it up.

One of the things Im really excited for is how things like poison, stone, blind, etc. will effect the action. In KH:Birth By Sleep a boss can cast blind on the player which literally gives you a small circle on screen from which to see, making it very disorienting. I always thought status effects were jut kind of minor annoyances in FF games, but actually effecting how the action is controlled from a player perspective will be really neat. .... Hell imagine thing like haste making you able to fly around the field and pull of combos twice a fast. Or maybe confuse will cause your enemies to look like your friends and vice versa (probably will just be boring and reverse the controls or something).

For Sony, The Order just came out, and Bloodborne is coming out soon too.

I'm pretty sure Type-0 HD falls beneath both of those games. There's no point being pompous about a game that's ultimately a remaster.
