Joe Montana Football 16

If this is indeed a thing I wonder why they went with Montana?

Obviously a legend and possibly GOAT but would a younger more relevant/current player not have been a better choice for the demographic MS targets?

From the interviews I've seen, Montana made it sound like he sought out the opportunity to get involved in something like this. He said he noticed Madden's exclusivity and the lack of competition and that piqued his interest. I doubt he's a gamer at all, but he did have his name attached to a series in the 90's, back when there was competition.

Just like Ori and Fable Legends.

Those arent games that will move Xboxes. That's why we've gotten Fable games in the past. A Halo or Forza isnt coming. And certainly a football game wont. If this rumor were true it would actually be an incredible move to take back control of the US market from Sony. MS would almost certainly gain the #1 position in the US with an exclusive groundbreaking NFL game.

Madden is not relevant AT ALL but it is a name...and Joe Montana football has memories for 30yo and older gamers who buy a lot of Madden games. the cover boy will undoubtedly be current/relevant.

If it's real... I hope, I hope

Yeah but if there really was some clause in the original contract that allowed for first party NFL games wouldn't we have heard about it by now? I'd imagine Nintendo would have at least considered making their own NFL game since they don't seem to get any love from EA anymore.

I don't see Nintendo spending the money to make a full fledged sports title and spending that kind of money on licenses.

Joe Montana just tweeted this: https://twitter.com/JoeMontana/status/577621758234095616

I don't think it will be an NFL game.

It just got Unreal @unrealengine #joemontanafootball16

Well that doesn't look like any NFL teams. Unless they're just using created teams to throw us off...

They're probably not

Hmm, getting a Backbreaker vibe. Unreal + Euphoria = Ecstasy!?

I'm not too disappointed in it not being an NFL game, I just hope that:

1)The price point is good. I don't think people will take a non-NFL game seriously for $60 anymore.

2) It is on PC. and if it is on PC that it can be easily mod-able.

3) The Franchise mode is deep and the gameplay is closer to simulation than Madden.

I feel like they have an NFL license but they're hiding it until they wish to reveal it. Honestly, the Microsoft rumors don't sound super unreasonable, if hyperbolic. I expect some of it might be true even if the source is making it up, because this thing went from an app to a full fledged game, and I think some big company got involved.

No NFL license is a pass for me also however let's be realistic here, if they did somehow acquire NFL rights this wouldn't be how you would announce it (in a random screenshot).

I didn't really believe it at first but it's way to much of a coincidence that he released this screenshots the day after this leak happened.

Looks like All Pro style licensing unless there is a big announcement waiting to drop.

I would assume they are using created/fake stuff in screenshots until the bomb drops on them having the nfl license

There is always the possibility I suppose. I wouldn't get your hopes up for it, though! They could have released this to slow the hype down a bit. Damon Grow knew about the leak post, but now that NeoGAF, Reddit, and other sites have picked up on it, it might have forced their hand to reveal something.

I don't need an NFL license if there's good tools for user created content. Arguably that would be better because then you wouldn't need to take out features to appeal to the NFL.

So no license after all? When I saw one of the main tweets being about pooling sweat for players I started to lose interest. No license will increase the lack of care factor.

If it's not using NFL rosters, I want some serious effort put into draft class generation. I absolutely love the idea of starting an online league with a fantasy draft full of completely unknown players.

lol FMT.

I actually think the animations in madden are pretty solid. They've done a decent job in recent years with the collision system and making tackles not completely canned animations anymore like they used to be. When you run into the back of an offensive lineman, you are fucked now, back in the old days you would just run full speed in place until you ran around him.

Isn't there a difference between the NFL license (teams) and the NFLPA license (players)? Even with teams, you gotta have the players.

Umm I'm not sure, I doubt you can have one with out the other though. I wasn't saying I wanted teams without players or vice versa, anyways.

Look closely on the helmet and the scoreboard like. They are intentionally obstructed. (I know the background out of focus is normal but the helmet almost has an 'x' over the logo. Calling it now: nfl license bomb drop at E3 just like the original leak said for xbone/pc

it will probably be a freemium iOS game *sob*

The license would be a plus, but not a necessity for me. Gameplay trumps names on a jersey.
I wouldn't worry about including NFL teams or players myself but traditionally speaking, it has been business poison for American football games to not have them.

EDIT: didn't complete sentence ...

Sorta looks like the Bulls logo on the scoreboard.

I don't know I think if they had the NFL license and it was releasing in July they would be missing various opportunities to announce the damn thing (Super Bowl, NFL Draft). You'd have to get people to preorder and if they wait until a month before the game comes out (E3) you aren't letting the hype build. Especially when you are competing against people preordering the next Madden months in advance.

Competition will be welcome. Madden has MUT, so a lot of players won't be bothered with this. EA seems to only care about that mode going forward to be honest, easy to see why. Just want to try something different for a change, hopefully it has a good online franchise, easy to not care about the license when you're building a team from scratch with a bunch of other people.

Vision cone was nice at the time, but lets be reall, your eyes are the vision cone. You have to make the read to begin with, why press extra buttons when you've already made the right read? Also, it basically takes a user defender to the ball, in some cases anyway.

OS post reads like 2k fan faction, love it.

I'm so glad to see a potential football game coming to PC once again! The last one was 2008, I think?

I'm sure the first version won't be that great, but hopefully they can get up to Madden quality (and hopefully surpass it!). Madden 25 was a really good football game, but it could definitely use some more competition.
