Battlefield Hardline on last gen is a ghost town [Up: European Launch]

Typically Id be shocked to see how low the player count is for the PC version, being that Battlefield is best on PC. But considering this game wasnt fun at all in beta, I wouldnt expect it any other way.

The first Battlefield game that bored me. It is a sad time we live in.

Not out in Europe yet. Or maybe PC players are too busy with Cities Skylines instead.

Yup that's the most worrying part, BF was always pc centric so if its starts to get titanfall numbers (even for a bad spin-off) it's really not good. COD:AW player count in lots of playlists was also pathetic during the latest steam free weekends. I am not interested in playing dayz clones in the future to get my multiplayer fps fix on pc...
Try CSGO, it's one of the best fps available.

Number will probably go up a bit when eu has it but i think the theme isn't doing the game any favours.

Here's me readying the champagne for the death of last gen and the game hasn't even been out for a full day, nevermind days away from Europe's release.

It's weird to see the pc pop that low, however like it's been stated before, it hasn't been released in all regions yet. I'd say this weekend would be a better indication for the population.

Not really. I was talking about this last night in a BF4 server and a lot of people there weren't interested in Hardline in the slightest. It may get a bump once it's fully out in the world, but I don't think it's going to set the world on fire like EA wants it to. It feels like a bunch of people are content with BF4.

Let's see how it's doing this weekend for a more accurate depiction. And then maybe re-review it in a month and then three months to see how it retains its population.

IIRC EA had fairly modest financial expectations for this game from the last quarterly report.

I have $60 worth of BF4 DLC I haven't even fucked with. Bought that Premium and then ended not even playing it, with all the launch issues.

The main reason I dislike Hardline is evident in these numbers. Just yesterday the PS4 version of BF4 was running close to 50k players on at this time. Now its been virtually cut in half. 25-30k isn't a small number and I'm not worried about finding games, but now we'll likely see worse netcode as out of region players become more common.

Same here. First and last time I will ever purchase "Premium" anything. I did it as I got it for $50 as some kind of promotion, and I played the first pack once.
I guess the good news is we could always go and play it now and it seems like the game is where it should have been when it was launched. I kept it installed on my PC just in case.

With so few people playing you guys can finaly enjoy a EA game at launch without server issues. Have fun!

Jesus give the game a fucking chance.

Nope, fuck this game.

Fuck this game so hard.

RIP Hardline.

Same. I bought Premium for BF3 and BF4. I definitely got my money's worth with BF3, but the launch of BF4 put a sour taste in my mouth, so I didn't play it as much as I would have. I'll most likely skip Premium for this, this game is just filler for me until Battlefront.

I'm more interested in the fact that more people are playing on xb1 than ps4, considering there's plenty more ps4s out there

Not out in the EU yet is it?

In the US, even though there are more PS4s, the Xbox crowd still eats up FPS a lot more. Generalizations exist for a reason

The non-mainline Battlefield games seemed to do just alright on PC and a lot of my Battlefield friends on the platform (myself included) view this as something to tide the BF fanbase over until the next DICE release but there are A LOT of games out right now that many of us would rather be playing and spending money on than Battlefield Hardline. The beta didn't really do anything to address concerns either so I'm not surprised at how it's doing on PC.

considering the game has been out for 16hrs I'm surprised to see anyone take these numbers so serious. If anything it shows that Xbox one players are quick to buy day 1. While people still on last gen hardware are not. Again, no surprise.

I believe it was Nirolak who pointed out that EA had only forecast 6 million sales for an unknown game (which we later found out was Hardline), but even though that's only 1 copy in every 3 for a mainline instalment, that seems kinda high given how little interest there seems to be in this and review scores which must be coming in far below expectations.

Is the game unlocked for the whole world on PC yet? Sub 10k on PC seems really odd when there's 50-60k on each PS4 and Xbox One.

I honestly don't expect the PC numbers to be very high for BFH. There's other games many other PC gamers would rather be playing. But on console, there's not as many games to play at the moment. Plus I think PC gamers, myself included just see it as an expansion to BF4 and nothing special. PC gamers tend to be very picky with certain things. CoD AW is an example too. It doesn't sell all that great on PC. You also have huge time sink games on PC like WoW and games with colossal amounts of players like, WoW, DoTA and LoL.

Agreed. I would think that the people that are still playing on last gen consoles are generally not day one consumers.

Why is it considered a ghost town when the online numbers for last gen are in the thousands? Do you need more than 10 thousand people to have a single match?

Well, there was that recent Nielsen survey that established brand loyalty was the number one reason to own an XB1 for purchasers of the console... Maybe he's referring to that :)
I have all three current generation consoles. That being said, I spend most of my gaming time on Xbox One because all of my friends who game, game on the one.

I think friends might be a factor in the higher Xbox One numbers.

Shows to me that last gen seems to be dieing pretty quick which is good, especially when the current gen has 10x the amount of people playing.

Hopefully 2015 will be the last year of last gen counterparts. I see cod being the last holdout. And probably some sports games.
