Titanfall - One year later.

The smart pistol accounts for a very small amount of kills. Hardly an issue, considering that using it requires some skill.

Consider it as some kind of backstab mechanic and carry on, it is well integrated in the game and does not ruin it.

Seems to be a lot of people that "love" the game which doesn't really relate to the games population which has been completely dire on both platforms for about 9 months now.

I enjoy it and play it every now and again but it's not a game I have put much time in to at all beyond the first few weeks.

There is almost nothing there to keep you coming back, it's a bit soul less for me .

I think smart pistol is ok, it's very fun to use because you can exploit movement mechanic to it's fullest. But it may need some adjustments.
1) Lock on area should be smaller, at least on PC. I think it was designed with gamepads in mind, but mouse is just to quick and precise.
2) I think arc grenade should disrupt the lock on mechanism for a short time because it makes no sense to be able to aim and kill someone you can't see. And if it affects titans and pilot visors, it makes sense for it to affect SP also.

Notification isn't needed. If someone aims at you from the back, he will probably kill you with any weapon and it will usually be quicker than using SP, so there's no need for SP to be handicapped in that way. If you face them head on, you can recognize someone using SP because they won't immediately shoot at you and they have different clothes anyway (the same as for EVA users), which should notify you that you should use cloak, kill them quickly or just get away from their sight.

Amped version is OP, but all amped weapons are OP so I don't see a problem.

?

There has always been at least 3,000 people online (XB1) when I've played the game during these past few months.

You're right dude, everyone is just lying about how much they "love" it. Can't believe you found us out!

Titanfall is a great game! Hopefully the next installation will have the same great online matchmaking experience and more free content. I purchased every single dlc released but i'd rather get it for free on Titanfall 2 :)

If you get continuously outplayed by smart pistol user, you should adjust something in your playstyle and not blame others being "pussy". I have over 4 days worth of playtime and I have not encountered single dominating smartpistol user.

I have over 300 hours of play time and the smart pistol became on of the reasons why I stopped playing. The thing became more and more annoying and even OP in the hands of decent players.

Did I get continuously outplayed by smart pistol users? No, it became a disproportionate and super annoying cause of death. I could use it myself, but that's not the kind of game I want to play.

When players somewhat know what they're doing, it can increase the average TTK in favor of the smart pistol. With players moving, jumping and using the walls, it can take more than a couple of seconds to get enough hits. Not with the smart pistol. With the smart pistol it always takes between 1.5 and 2 seconds.

When you're using a smart pistol, it punishes other players for using movement, while it is super easy to use movement yourself, since you don't have to aim. Like I said, that's not the game I and apparently many others want to play.

Thing is, I got most annoyed with the smart pistol once I reached Gen 9 (or was it 10) and had to use it myself, it wasn't getting killed by others using it that annoyed me. I just felt like such a cheap bastard as it's so easy to get kills with once you know how to use the movement system effectively.

I was worried about having to use smart pistol (I think it was gen 8) to hit a higher gen. But they added a way to pay credits to skip a challenge so that wasn't a problem. Just go to the black market, go to forge certifications or something, and its 100k credits, then use it on the one you need done. I found it quite useful for getting past annoying challenges like smart pistol.

Having to wait the three full "cycles" when you're already in kill range with the Smart Pistol seemed like a good balance to me. It was why I usually didn't use it unless I was trying to clear drones, because it's generally a faster TTK with other weapons so long as you take the moment to aim. Were you on kb/m?

Yeh kb/m, I found it really easy to abuse the movement and just bounce around players using stims and they couldn't keep up with the aiming meaning I could get my 3 locks easy. Felt kinda bad after getting the full kill requirements with it :(

Fuck... OP is getting me hyped all over again for TF. I still have yet to play it. Is the Xbox 360 port worthy of my time?

The smart pistol is bs. Go ahead and say I'm bad, I am. That doesn't change the fact that it shouldn't exist in any sort of competitive shooter and certainly with no real counters to it. Well there is one counter. Camping.

It does not give you an advantage.

If you are playing Attrition and you are sneaking, you are wasting time. You need to get out there, deal damage and get your Titan so your team isn't outnumbered. ADS with the SP is terrible, and yes, if someone has cloak it is almost impossible to kill them before they kill you. You will be switching to your secondary in that scenario if it isn't too late already.

Also a CAR SMG hipfire spread will kill a SP user from mid range before the lock on works.

There's more than one way to play the game, using the DMR exclusively I'm hardly ever out in the open; sneaking ≠ camping. Users that choose to accentuate the strengths of the SP have an advantage on other players because they don't have to aim. The fact that it racks up obscene bot kills in attrition is icing on the cake. You really don't have to agree.

It's really not a problem. You need to keep moving.

I'd say that shotgun was a bigger problem that smart pistol ever was. But that was almost 8 months since I've played, I don't know if they've tweeked it.

The shotgun is mostly fine. I think they reduced the ranged damage a tad, but the ROF is where it is a bit iffy.

If moving actually did counter the smart pistol, that would put it in it's proper place. But moving doesn't, you have to have an opponent bad enough for that to really work effectively.

im just very happy i can play this on PS4, but i wonder if they wont say anything about it for the rest of the year, maybe they gonna show off thier other game at E3.

Eurogamer hit the nail on the head with this article, Titanfall: One year on.

One year on, though, this is still one of the most electric and compelling FPS games around and a far better experience now than when it launched. It might not have the retention rate of decade-long franchises, but Respawn has built something special here, and promises to do so again, this time with both major consoles to play with. Your Titan is ready.

They did hit it on the head. Especially the bits about emphasizing that grunts are a resource to be managed, and how the regen challenges push you to learn all the game mechanics, it really is a very well thought out tweak to the old COD prestige treadmill. One important point about how grunts improve the game is only hinted at though, as they are a valuable resource to be exploited, they greatly encourage players to move around the map. And they also facilitate more movement just by providing visual distractions to people trying to play overly campy. You see what happens when you go pilot skirmish mode, no grunts, no titans, with big maps that just means sitting still, listening to footsteps and/or sniping. Movement gets you killed, it gets boring. And that's a major problem when COD gets big maps. Things get slow, snipers start controlling the map. I love big maps, and I love running and gunning, and Titanfall makes those things go together like peanut butter and jelly.

If I wrote out my entire list of complaints about COD as a game, I'd say 90% of them have been deftly addressed by the design of Titanfall. In some ways I'm a little worried Titanfall 2 might regress a little because of some of the COD community's reaction to Titanfall.

And with the DLC thing, they're even addressing problems on the business side

It's a little weird they mentioned you have to go to Variety Pack if you want to play CTF, maybe that's a Europe thing, but the CTF playlist has been more lively than Variety for months on Xbox One USA.

Doing so makes an achievement unobtainable though.

Honestly, if they're playing on PC, CTF 90% of the time is populated by the same group of people who also run / participate in pugs.

IE, the bar for entry is extremely high, and if there is a custom match happening the playlist is going to have half the normal population.

I'm still hoping for more mech games.

Moving doesn't, because people on the the PC side can aim. You have to break LoS, which is a mutual thing. But what most players don't take advantage of is the fact that the acquisition time for the Smart Pistol vs. most guns pretty awful if you're doing something popping in and out of LoS.

I loved TF and would welcome a second. It was a shame that PS gamers missed out.

The parkour and map traversal was the best part, the learning curve was quite gradual and after a while I found my self zipping round the maps with speed having my titan follow me to take the heat of me.

The maps were fairly balanced some would allow 2 spots for titans to cap flags the others 1 which I though was a great, but even then a well skilled pilot can quickly bring down a titan.

Oh and calling a titan and dropping it on a titan or pilot was fun.

I know it get's a lot of crap on the internet, but it really was a fun game and it kept me addicted for nearly 300hrs on PC and 50hrs on X1.

"Titanfall 2" is coming this november.

lol, doubt it. Competing against BO3 and Halo5 would be a bad move. If not early 2016 again, then it'll probably be holiday 2016 to compete with IW's version of the game, because that CoD will turn out to be a pile of shit anyway like their past 2 attempts.

xbox says that I played titanfall for ...339 hours(!!)

mind you, I also have bought every single mp fps on next gen, from ghosts and bf4 to destiny and advanced warfare, so 340hrs is even more impressive than it looks.

so yeah

484 hours here.

So I tried playing with a controller yesterday. Holy crap the aim assist is of the charts, and I gave up very little in terms of mobility (crouch jumping is a bit hard with bumper jumper I guess). Now I understand why certain players use controller in competition, it gives you a massive advantage. It completely eliminates the effectiveness of juking at range. You also have some people using controller Sims to get aim assist with keyboard and mouse. Any chance for an option in private matches to disable aim assist completely?

I still jump into this game from time to time to get my mech fix. The maps are awesome and the wait times to get into a game aren't even long at all. I will agree that the game is much better now than it was on launch (common theme of this gen) and it is a shame that the player base fell off.

If you haven't played this game yet I would recommend at least trying it out as it now and see how you feel about it!

That was the first thing I thought would happen when I heard about aim assist for controllers on PC. It's basically an in game aimbot.

I haven't seen anyone doing this that I can remember.. But how can you tell anyway?

In all fairness, I have the full 2000 gamerscore and have put hundreds of hours into it over a year. I have 6 consoles setup that I try and give attention to, I was always going to stop playing at SOME point.

Yeah, the aim assist is pretty strong, it kind of makes sense, with the fast movement the game would be borderline unplayable for the average gamepad user. The smart pistol balance feels different based on it as well. As in, it is probably overpowered on PC kb/m as juking is more effective to stay alive while getting your lock-ons. I don't know if there's ever going to be a solution there. It seems like gamepad support with aim assist is becoming kind of a standard thing for cross platform shooters.

Which is why I am only asking for an option to disable it for private matches.

One of the main reasons I've completely abandoned PC when it comes to multiplayer games.

System and controller parity trumps mouse and keyboard. And this is coming from someone who swore by M/KB since Doom.
