Your Lie in April (Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso) IOTI Life is Colorful

Nope, don't see it happening. She dead.

I'll base my prediction on Ichigo Domei which obviously heavily inspired the show. *spoilers for Ichigo Domei*
The girl has surgery and has her legs amputated but lives for a few months afterwards before dying
. I see the same sort of situation happening here except maybe in a less depressing way. Although they haven't said exactly what type of surgery Kaori is having.

It was kind of obvious what the lie was from the early episodes. It was Kaori pretending to be into Watari when she was after Arima from the start.
You mean before or after the playground scene?

If it's after, okay.

If it's before, why did she accuse him of being a pervert? Doesn't make sense if she's trying to get closer to him.

Because anime. I wouldn't read too much into that scene. She probably saw him play when he was still playing the piano or when he was transcribing stuff and thought "I dig that".

There is a scene in episode one after Tsubaki and Kousei are walking home together where Tsubaki gets a call from someone asking "have you asked him yet?", presumably this is Kaori. Kousei gets asked by Tsubaki to come with them to meet her the next day.

It's a bit ambiguous whether Kaori asked about Watari or Arima. In any case, there's no flashback to suggest Kaori has been 'moved' by Arima in the past, and even if she had been, why would she play the violin and not the piano?

I get the feeling that scene would not be there if it was just asking about Watari. Maybe she heard him one day playing or something, who knows. Hopefully all will be answered in the final episode.

I feel bad for Tsubaki, it's plain to she that she's been a ride or die since they were kids. The fact that her sneeze (presence) ar the competition allowed him to get his shit together does give some insight into his feelings for her as well. Either way, beautiful story, gets me every week.

This One and koe no Katachi gave me hope..
Japanese storywriter can still produce beautiful things that do not include pantyshots, tentacles, nonsensical superpowered being and giant robots..
I don't mind a shounen or robot stuff or sports anime where players defy Logic, so far that we can still get some high quality product every now and then :)

Getting back in topic i'm really digging both the animation and the ost..
I follow the manga as well so i just joined the anime wagon as an afterthought, now i follow both on a weekly basis!

Maybe because she thought she would never be as good as him? Or maybe because she thought she might get to play with him if she learned to play the violin? It is kinda odd though.

I think the former is most likely, I play the piano but never could learn the guitar properly for example

I wish I could play the piano but it is too late now. Oh well, still can listen to other people play. Like this kickass rendition of the ending theme "orange".

Should be put to work in a coal mine.
Wow just randomly saw this thread on gaf on friday and had nothing to do over the weekend.
So I gave it a chance and watched freaking 21 episodes in 2 days.

This Anime is amazing. The art, the sound the script everything about it is so beatiful. It's easily one of the best I've watched in the last years. These emotions man... :(
So thank you gaf member for making this thread. :)

But still wondering how they are going to wrap up everything in just one episode. I'm fearing the worst.
I think I'm gonna need some tissues when this Anime is over.

I agree, I picked up totally spur of the moment and it's clawed its way into the top shows I've watched overall. I feel like the writing is sometimes overwrought with melodrama, and sometimes the sentimental refrains can get to be a bit much, but dammit, this is one of the most sincere and moving things I've seen in ages. I absolutely adore this show. I'm currently at episode 20, and am saving 21 for later tonight. It's one of those things that you just don't want to end cause you feel sadder for it. Absolutely amazing show

I can just imagine the feels on that last episode

and depending on what will happen, the OVA can be more sadder

wait... there's gonna be an OVA? WELL FUCK ME SIDEWAYS. I AM ELATED

You're welcome! I'm very glad that this thread has made some people discover this show. If you enjoyed this, I highly highly recommend you go watch Silver Spoon. It's my favourite show of all time (and Goose house, the band that did the first OP for Your Lie in April performs the second ending for the show).

Yeah this anime is fantastic. Came at a good time too considering I have binge watched like.....every good anime. So props to this thread.

They met in April, right?

If she was moved by Kousei's playing in the past, then maybe her goal was just to get him to play again. I'd be pretty sad if someone I admired just stopped doing the thing that made me admire them in the first place, wasting all of their hard work and talent in the process.

The thrill of competition – just having talented rival pianists like Emi and Takeshi to play against – wasn't enough to get Kousei to play again, so Kaori playing the piano would not have achieved that goal. And if Kaori's goal was to get him to play again, picking up the violin instead and urging him to play by making him her accompanist was a sound move.

That's a pretty impressive long term plan then but I think it's a sound explanation. Edit: Seems like I'm a member now. Goodybe Junior tag.

I heard about that. Isn't this a slice of life Anime on a farm written by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist ??
Never tried it but dont really know what to expect. Will give it a chance.

Yup, that's the one. It's downright hilarious with a lot of feel-good moments.

By the way, the first volume of the manga will be coming out in English in a month. Support it if you love the show, I know I will be!

There is a theory that certain personality types are drawn to certain instruments. I brought up Mozart in the Jungle earlier and pointed out how similar the violinist was to Kaori. It piqued my interest and looked into musician personality stereotypes. Google a book called The Musical Temperament.

Basically pianist are introverts and violinist are extroverts.

that makes sense , mind blown

I'm curious, how faithful is the anime to the manga? I'm currently waiting on Good Smile to do a figure of Kaori, which... Could probably take forever. I hope they do one of Kousei and Tsubaki too

I've only read a little bit of the manga, but it seems fairly faithful. The anime at least enhances the performance/musical aspect of the show.

Yeah the thing about adaptations is, I always wonder what gets cut out when they condense it. I'm particularly impressed by the pacing on the show. Every ep ends on a serious cliffhanger and there's very little, if any filler to it. And yeah, the score and stellar VA seriously add emotional weight to key moments. I'm not sure whether those moments would be as impactful on paper alone

This is true. I've read the manga up the current chapter, and remarkably little has been cut out. A lot of the cinematography seen in the show actually is based on the manga, which is quite impressive. However the manga suffers just because of its medium; we don't get to actually hear the performances. Otherwise everything else is the same, and it's really impressive that the anime adaption manages to be the definitive version of the show due to the incredible animation, soundtrack and direction.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a top-tier anime adaptation wise.

You guys have convinced me to give this show a watch. Usually I'm more into action/adventure shows but I figure I could stand to broaden my horizon a bit.
