Kojima will no longer be a Konami executive from April 1st + KojiPro is no more?

The fact that KojiPro would get hit with layoffs is crazy when they're the only gaming division that consistency puts out quality sellers for Konami. I guess they should've made some exercise equipment to go along with that in order to keep them safe.

Kojima is trending on Twitter.

Dunno if that's good or bad.

Why do they then erase A Hideo Kojima Game from everything?

Since there are no formal standards for crediting games, it's likely that one or more of the following apply:
a) The "A Hideo Kojima Game" marquee is part of a contract that has drawn to a close or will draw to a close pre-release, and Konami is no longer obligated to maintain that branding.
b) Kojima no longer feels he will have final directorial authority over the game, and asked himself that it be removed. (This isn't necessarily a negative or a dis-endorsement - it's exactly what you'd expect as a courtesy to other staff if he happily signed off on content now, is leaving for a consultant position at the likely end of his contract in April, and won't be the go-to guy for the day one patch or planned DLC.)
c) One or both of Konami and Kojima would like to wean the fanbase off the association, presumably so that he can work on his own projects in peace/so that they can have the controversy of "who's this new director?!" now and have fans mostly placated by when an MGS6 is announced.

Pretty hard to think there wasn't some severe falling out between Kojima and Konami management. This isn't how a retirement would go if Kojima was still in good standing with Konami management.

Konami wants the MGS series unassociated with Kojima going forward, it seems.

That makes me wonder who will take over the franchise, and if any future MGS games will retain the Kojima's signature "quirks" the series is beloved for. I can see future MGS games be very different conceptually and design-wise.

Hmmmmmm....
deciding to found a new studio doesn't happen on a whim, it's a planned thing.

Especially since he announced directing Silent Hills in August of last year.

This sounds bad the more you think about it.

You'll all agree with Konami scrubbing his name off once it comes out that Kojima's fired for robbing an orphanage or punching a dolphin or something

Or he wanted to finally kill Snake off for good. Just what he wanted to do in MGS4.

Konami confirmed to be dead soon.
Team Silent and then KojPro. Konami is insane.

Wow this is shocking. I'd expect if he were leaving or stepping down normally there would be an announcement and a gradual shift. Seems weird to see all the branding change immediately

Oh man.

I don't know what's more jarring; all these facts are coming in so quickly. The worst part for me is probably how they're so quick to remove his name. I'm pissed that they're going to probably take his name off the cover of my TPP retail copy this September.

I still look forward to Rising games (as long as it's Platinum), but looks like Kojima was right about it being the last Solid. If Konami wants to keep Metal Gear games going anywhere close to an Assassin's Creed pace....I don't want to even think about it.

Kiefer Sutherland's bill came in.

People getting scared about Silent Hills.... Maybe that's the point?

This shit isn't funny, but damn you guys.

Kojima has the chops to go on his own, but his games won't be as nice looking as MGS4/5.

Those are expensive ass games.

But it's in relation to the topic, though, and if people read the OP they'll be less likely to post that (I know that requires people to read the OP, which is its struggle). It's something that's been posted almost every other page, just feels like it needs to be addressed in the OP.

That's fair. I've added it to the OP just so people can stop re-posting it as news.

"Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima"

?

It doesn't say that Kojima is stil a Konami employee.

I hope he's joining DeNA to work on Nintendo mobile games.

This is to surreal to be true...What the fuck is going to happen?

*edit* The lack of respect removing his name from the box-arts/website like that is mind boggling.

I'm legitimately concerned now, do you think this will be swept under the rug and we'll get zero information on what has happened or will Kojima speak out soon?

Someone externally can still be contracted for an advisory role. The statement says nothing about whether Kojima is still a Konami employee or not.
To me it reads: Konami includes Kojima. Wouldn't they say something more like "Konami and Kojima are making Metal Gear" if he were leaving?

Could be a Sakurai situation as in, he no longer works as Nintendo employee, but he still works as director of Smash Bros as a freelancer.

Well damn. Konami going all in mobile I bet, that's where they make most of their video game money from and it doesn't require the insane budgets AAA games do these days.

What terrible news, I was hoping for a mini-Japanese revival with P.T, MGSV, FFXV etc now it seems another player is positioning itself for mobile development : (

They have to say something. He's supposed to be making Silent Hills, he can't just disappear, they'd have to either have new staff or cancel it. They're probably getting PR ready now or something

If Silent Hills isn't a Kojima game anymore I can't say I'm excited about it.

Otherwise the silver lining is that Konami was seriously tying him down. Hope he gets hired by someone better. C'mon Sony.
