Kojima will no longer be a Konami executive from April 1st + KojiPro is no more?

Well maybe it´s for the best, maybe Kojima didn´t like what Konami was preparing for the franchise and decided to step aside, something like "keep making games if you want, but metal gear and my vision about the franchise ends with 5"
I was freaking out when i read the news but if he keeps making games,i don´t care if he goes to sony, nintendo, indie etc i will definitely follow him wherever he goes.
Although i´m really worried about Silent Hills now.

Huh. It's hard to know how I really feel about this before knowing all the details.

I'm optimistic, though. Hideo Kojima is a fucking genius. He'll have no problem finding somebody to let him make whatever he wants to make after this.

"heading of" : March 16, Monday.

Restructure was on Monday.

Oh man.

I think this is it guys. Metal Gear will continue but this time Kojima will not return as a director.

Even if they're preparing for his eventual retirement, dropping the Kojima productions brand wasn't a good idea.

Developers would want to work for a studio like that.

In the end he's just treated like a salaryman.

Being extreme and hyperbolic like this just makes you sound delusional, dude - I'm sure Kojima is pissed off by this but it's also unfair to everyone else on the project if this is in fact his last "mainline MGS game". Konami and the teams involved that want to see the series continue in different ways, etc should be allowed to pursue that without having to worry about people not buying the game because Koji's name isn't plastered on the packaging.

And before you tell me that fans have a right to know who worked on the game - yes, but fans aren't so stupid as they need the fucking dev team spilled out onto the cover of the game to know about that. It's always been rather easy to make purchasing decisions based on dev team credits before.

MGS is my favorite game series of all time and I think Kojima is a modern day Asimov but even I think that putting "A Hideo Kojima Game" on the MGS games in his "canon" was not only disrespectful to his staff if they wanted to make their own games, but also to Konami who owned Metal Gear before Kojima worked at Konami in the first place.
If kojipro put out a bad game, a kojipro team member can leave the team and get a role anywhere else. On the other hand, kojima tarnishes his own name. Kojima assumes the greatest risk as leader of kojima productions.

I am in the middle of Peace Walker, admiring how well produced it was, and then this news comes around?

I've put on my Nightmare-Vision Goggles, and everything looks exactly the same.

I bet his ego is hurt. I was always found it dodgy that his name was front and center in his games.

Common practice for well-known project leads/designers. It acts as a "seal of quality". Kojima doesn't seem like the "feed my ego" type guy.

This is potentially devastating as far as Konami's future goes. He's one of the few talents there that seemed to have any pull left and one they actually made use of. They've got nothing without him, as they've happily sat on their other talent and franchises and let them waste.

I wonder if Konami execs will be more involved with game development, possibly picking developer leads and also having creative input?

But what will become of Metal Gear Rising 2: Zandatsu Boogaloo? I was hoping to see Raiden, Courtney & Kevin battle an evil corporation to save the Cyborg Staffing Firm...

Man, if Kojima leaves, where will he go? I never saw him as the type of guy who would be head of a studio of his own. He alway seemed more interested in making games, not worrying about managing an entire studio.

Konami won't stop until they've buried everyone with an inkling of talent.

It's baffling.

It truly is, even just from a business standpoint. They play it so safe that they've got very few notable projects not named "Metal Gear".

Hopefully this doesn't kill Silent Hills, because I wouldn't trust them with that on their own.

Why are people in here making these asinine hyperbolic responses to my posts? If there was a shitty Kingdom Hearts game, Nomura would be just as responsible for it without his name being plastered on the box art. Can you use your brain before slamming your hands on the keyboard?

He was the writer, director and producer of the games that the "A Hideo Kojima Game" tagged appeared on. It isn't a stretch to say it was his game.

Wouldn't making high quality games that weren't MGS be the best way to achieve that? They're responsible for their name recognition dwindling over the years. They have a huge library of franchises that people love and yet they don't put them to use.

But if Metal Gear is associated with Konami, instead of Kojima Productions, then that strengthens Konami's own brand.

Ermm... where? In the videogame industry? I can't think of many (any?)

Film in particular.

A (inset name here) film

Kojima is heavily influenced by film, so...

In sure there are other game examples I've seen through the years, I will look for confirmation.

Again, it's not that unusual, and he doesn't seem to be the type that's really full of himself to me, unlike other "diva developer" types.

I'm just waiting for the cancellation of Silent Hills at this point, can't belive I had faith it would come out. Hopefully we'll have some kind of quote from Kojima or Konami by tomorrow.

He could go anywhere. I doubt there is a single publisher out there that wouldn't want to have Kojima on board and give the the liberties and concessions he ask for. Of course is going to be a japanese publisher /studio that will take Kojima if he decides to leave Konami and don't open his own studio.

Valhalla. And by Valhalla I mean Platinum.

I can't imagine Hideo Kojima as the kind of guy who would struggle to find work in the industry.

Honestly as long as Kojima keeps making games I'll follow him wherever he goes. He's earned a break from Konami. I do hope Silent Hills under his watch sees the light of day but I can understand if it doesn't.
