BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

I ordered the physical copy from Dell so will have to wait til release day(Or the day after) to get my hands on it..for those who have already downloaded the game, what do you all think so far?

A week ago I would have said a metacritic score of 90+ was possible. After reading about the excessive loading times and the fact that online play has not been activated yet (meaning some reviewers will not have enough time with this important aspect), I now think a metascore around 86 - 88 is more realistic. Still really good and souls fan should have no hesitation buying this game.

I couldn't care less what reviewers think, as I've said over and over, the way they play and think about games is simply in no way how I play and think about them.

Anyway, I kind of expect a lower score from Polygon. Not necessarily because they're biased, but because they're stupid. They panned the hell out of Alien Isolation, which in my opinion is the best horror game ever made and the best game of any kind in 2014, for reasons that made no sense to me as someone who played and finished the game.

Those of us who are downloading the game can't play until monday night at midnight when it unlocks. The only people playing are the ones who bought it in stores who broke the street date.

I couldn't care less about the metacritic scores, most of the time they're wrong and meaningless.

I think you have to wait for the EU releasedate even when you buy it from the US store. That was the case for me with CoD: Advanced warfare.
wait, no. please someone confirm that this is not true.

I bought it from the us store to play it one day before, not because it was cheaper. If I can't play it in 1 day and 8 fucking hours then I'm going to be very sad.

Okay so guys I've never played a souls game, or any game known for being very difficult either. It looks amazing so I decided to pre order Bloodborn a few days ago.

Is there any class or tips for someone like me who is new to these types of games? I'm kind of scared it will be to hard for me or I will have no idea what to do and fuck up. Besides that I'm very exited but I would appreciate some help.

A decent overview of wepons and starting classes here - http://www.craveonline.co.uk/gaming...your-starting-class-and-weapons-in-bloodborne

let's not turn this thread into a metacritic-prediction orgy. thanks.
This. It's boring and unnecessary. Just wait til the review thread pops up tomorrow. The metacritic score does not affect the quality of the game. If it gets a lower score, it's still going to be the best game released this generation so far. Nothing changes that.

When i purchased The Last of Us last year from the US store I was able to play on release day/Tuesday on my UK account, so I don't see why this would be any different.

Still not something that can be answered. How would anyone know if it's a contender against games coming in 3 years?

If a game like TLOU came in the beginning of the PS3 life span I would knew it would be a GOTG contender because if the game is memorable then it would definitely be one contender for GOTG. It's not like this gen will have +100 game that have +95 so if BB is great then yes you can at least predict it's going to be contender for GOTG. But after all I think the point of his reply was to find out if the game is really great or not and he used GOTG to know how good it is.

My current through for Bloodborne based upon watching 7 or 8 hours of carious streams.

This is a love-letter for Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 fans. Take various elements from both, things like a nexus like hub and streamlined inventory system, along with may monster encounters that feel pulled from both sources, even down to various sound effects from Dark Souls. It is very much the game the creators of Demon's and Dark Souls 1 wanted to make.

The combat is certainly a shift from Dark Souls, so if players were put off by the punishing difficulty of the Souls series, they will find not rest in Bloodborne. It looks more unforgiving than any of the previous game. Not sure if this is a blessing or a curse for new players.

On a slightly more negative note. From need to really push the series. Really damn pretty and detailed to look at, but still plenty of corridor zones to wander through. Lightning is really dark and miserable, which adds to the overall feel but its grey, grey, grey all the time, especially when the night-time is around. Its nice to have some beauty to look at to distract players from how bleak life actually is.

Bosses, while they do look fantastic, are still fights in small/medium sized arena rooms. They really need to check out Monster Hunter 4U and see how to expand zones to gives bosses something more to do than get circled by the Hunter. Smashing a few pillars just to show off destruction is little more than eye-candy if they don't actually build an interesting mechanic to it.

I am sure the game will do massively but I hope From take a little rest from making Souls game with just thematic changes and a few combat tweaks. Interesting to see what feedback they get from Bloodborne players and Souls fans alike.

Own personal thoughts! Still want t play the damn game though. :D

Online is active for reviewers.

The boss everyone thought was lame on mobius stream just got fucking real on mendrox's one.

Yeah, some nice combat work.

I don't see many players mixing the weapon skills though. I thought that was a key thing being able to mix those fast swings in with the hammer mode?

I imagine that will need practice and we need players who champion those high-skill play styles in PVP.

So, how is this game looking contentwise so far? Aside from the Chalice (which seems quite extensive) and NG, is there still a considerably vast world to explore with many bosses, subtle lore, different weapons etc.?

Chalice sounds cool and all, but I'm not sure if that is for me. Dark Souls first playtrough was perfect for me. I had no big difficulties, there was a good amount of challenge/mastery and it was truly awesome to discover the world and it's dangers the first time around. I am the type of game that enjoys that the most, exploring that deadly, mysterious and dark yet beatiful world.

Agreed. Will take time to nail down the tricks of combat. It is nice to see a mix of weapons over various streams. Need more pimpcane action though. :D

I imagine some bosses will be Capra Demon-esque. Some people get obliterated, other people get it first try and go, "that was a boss you got stuck on? huh...

Yeah, I agree about not putting too much stock on scores for a game like this. I mean, we can already ascertain from the video streams and feedback from people who have the game already that it will be great (if you like this type of game) regardless of what some reviewers say. Its a proven formula that doesn't deviate that much from previous highly regarded games by the same developer.
Personally I'm really looking forward to it, even though I've never played a souls game before.

Loading times are not that big of deal. I doubt most reviewers will care much. It's just the only thing that boarders have to complain about right now.

It is? Do they just have a special way to send an extra patch for reviewers? How do you know?

I don't think Sony is stupid enough to not give the reviewers one of the most important elements of the game because this will hurt the game meta and then will the hurt the sales.

The chalice dungeon sounds like being one of the most innovative new additions to the souls series. I can't wait to read impressions from fellow gaffers on this aspect.

The Chalice Dungeons will be awesome for the community.
the variety of bosses, mobs and locations won't disappoint. at least not from what we've been told these says.

I wish someone would stream that. *hint hint*
now? Not sure, mobius was doing the Chalice but I have no idea if he's still alive or when he's going back to stream the game.

edit / nvm, I just saw the stream posted in this page.

Been playing since yesterday and there are a few rooms I've been to that I have no idea how to go back to. The world is also an enemy in this game. It's a gigantic maze.

i have a question for the area
