It plays fundamentally different than Dark Souls. They have completely different design Philosophies.
Well, that depends on how you play Souls. You can play Souls fat-rolling in heavy armor while blocking with a tower shield or dodging every blow nude as the day you were born. That's one of the strengths of these games; they're very versatile and don't pidgeonhole you into a single way of playing the game.
I cant believe there are people trying to argue its not a new IP.
It's a new IP, but I consider it a Souls game. I probably shouldn't, but it's just how I feel (And calling it a Souls game is the opposite of an insult for me).

destructoid reviewer said he finished the game in 32 hours on his first play. that sounds pretty fast considering the souls games took me probably twice that long on my first plays.

That sounds great to me!! Specially giving the ammount of time I have to play, one of the things that was bothering me was the time of dedication to the same game I would need to complete this compared to what I took from Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

i mean
ive been on a complete media blackout since preordering the LE like...last fall?
but goddamn @ these #'s, hard to not be extra hyped as a souls fan

Gamespot said it took them 65 hours.

So I guess mileage varies considering how much you die and explore.

This is strange. I continue to see two wildly different ranges, which is it?

Did people miss something in the story that elongated the experience/branched the game out differently or something?

Is the game seamless open world like Dark Souls ? Or more like Demon's Souls areas ?

Not that it matters...Pre-order was locked months ago lol
Sounds like it's more like Dark Souls, with the more horror atmosphere of Demon's. That's something I can get behind.

The only really bummer I'm reading is about the loading times. Having to go through a couple of 30 second loading screens sounds a little off-putting, but I honestly don't remember how the loading times were for the Souls series on consoles anymore for comparison.

Why not get a friend to shareplay it to you to see how your stomach handles it to decide?

It's ok, I'll pass. It starts with a headache and then progresses to disorientation, my eyes do not respond well to being forced to stay out of focus. Heavy DoF causes similar problems, as does excessive motion blur. I really wish devs would step back and think about the awful crap they cover game graphics with at the moment.

I'm happy it'll sell well, I'm fairly tired of the 'no exclusives' mantra and this should go quite a long way towards stopping that.

To be fair, games journalism has come a LONG way from just a few short weeks ago when The Order scored poorly and it was time for reviews to go away and reviewers to pull their heads out of their asses :p

Make sure you're talking about the exact people you're making fun of.

I can see where this is going soon.

I am indescribably happy. I'd advise you all NOT to go read Dan Stapleton's tweets about the game, too. Congrats GAF, enjoy this one :D

I had no idea who that guy was, so I looked him up. I can't believe he actually works for IGN in any official capacity.

It's definitely a new IP, but it's not what most people think of when they imagine new IP. They might imagine a game with a completely different genre, look and feel. There's no doubt that people who played the Souls games are looking to this as the next in a series, the same way Nintendo fans look at Galaxy as a sequel to Sunshine despite the obvious differences in gameplay.

That LE was EU only right?

Because I couldnt afford to get it, and Id feel good knowing that I wouldnt be able to anyway

Its really pissing me off that my friend constantly complains that there are no quality games on PS4 aside from Minecraft and the new batman game coming out soon.

I tried convincing him to get helldivers but he laughed at me and said it looks like a generic top down shooter. So now I am trying to convince him to get Bloodborne as its going to be amazing, and he just laughed at me and said he will stay with mincecraft because its a better quality game and BloodBorne looks terrible and "janky"

I called him a complete fucking moron and we are no longer talking. True story.

Your friend has different tastes, true story. If you need to convince him then clearly he isn't interested in those types of games.

Bayonetta has similarities to DMC...made by the same guy too...

....Guys, BAYONETTA was NOT a new IP. Holy moly.

"New IP" only entered the discussion after the goalposts were moved a few times already. It was originally about "games released this generation."
Then we proceeded to create a new classification so Bloodborne can "win" whatever nonexistent contest is at hand.

So out of curiosity, with the only really negatives so far being loading times and visuals, what's the consensus: could this have been done on ps3?

Ah.... to be in highchool

Wow, great scores! Congratulations From Software. I've loved these devs ever since I played Otogi! Great job!!!! Looking forward to playing in an hour or so.

Well that's doing pretty well. No sale for me because of the chromatic aberration, that effect rapidly makes me feel nauseous.

I am preparing myself for when that effect hits. Lords of the Fallen had it, and it was just terribly implemented. You could shut it off in that game at least. Apparently in this game it's most noticeable in the day, so it shouldn't be that bad (I hope).

Re : Completion time.

It varies greatly in a Souls game.

People on GAF completed Dark Souls 2 in under 30 hours, while It took me and others 60 or 70 hours.

Depends on so many factors ,but BB won't be a short game at any rate.

The IGN Reviews editor, Dan Stapleton, is going off about how much Bloodborne sucks on twitter. At least he had the sense not to review it himself.

People have beaten Souls games at level 1, so there's absolutely no grinding involved whatsoever.

You can grind, but your skill and experience generally matters more than anything else. It's possible to solo these games at the lowest possible level with enough practice. Grinding health and endurance just provides a cushion to make the game more forgiving.

Also, in the Souls games upgrading weapons>leveling up. That's probably the case in Bloodborne. Also, in the Souls games there were soft caps for leveling up stats where the gains would significantly drop, so if you're barely adding anything to a stat you might want to try leveling something else up.

After Bayo and Smash were brought up as other highly scored games this gen and dismissed for not being new IP. The goal posts are moving in multiple directions. Whatever Bloodborne is, it's a game that is reviewing extremely well.

There is more to the game than just running from boss to boss, these are the kinds of games you just get lost in and try to find secret weapons and armor and bosses. Also some bosses/areas could challenge someone for hours and might be easier for others. It's not a linear game.
