killed the first boss, got the kirkhammer, can't find anywhere to upgrade it. i thought it'd be the dude in the hunter's dream but he's asleep

also, i noticed that L2 with the hammer form has a different moveset from R2. can that be used to parry like you'd use a firearm? it doesn't seem like it, but i didn't mess with it much

Awesome, thanks! Maybe I can finally stop doing such pitiful damage to the first boss.

No problem! Just practice doing it on different enemies, and don't mind dying: just focus on the moves until it becomes second nature. Once you get it down, I bet the game will become easier for you.

right now I'm just doing a run through the starter areas to farm blood echoes to buy the better attire...1 piece to go

I know for a fact this isn't a game I can just go full on with quite yet so I am pacing myself

Hah, well, I restarted my game and picked the cleaver, and managed to get back to basically the same spot I was before after three hours in the span of about ten minutes. That's that Souls magic for ya.

was it b/c you're more familiar with the game now or b/c saw is that much better than the cane?

There's a desk (workshop) inside the building.

You have to switch back to your firearm to parry. Hammer form L2 is an extra move.

AFAIK all weapons have a "special" attack with L2 when two-handing them.

that's it for tonight. i cant believe how hard this game is delivering. The controls feel amazing and the atmosphere is great. cant wait to play tomorrow.

To new players, be VERY careful around NPC's.
Even the most important ones can die forever if it's anything like the past souls games.

Essentially this means that you can possibly say goodbye even to leveling for the rest of the game.

And you can't load a save if you fuck up.

thanks

yeah i figured, i just thought it was interesting that there seemed to be 3 different buttons for different attacks with it. don't remember that being a thing in the Souls games

Yeah, the whole trick weapon thing is new for Bloodborne. When a transformed weapon is two handed, you get a different moveset from the one handed form, and L2 is a new attack. Can't wait to combo one handed attacks into a transform attack, and finishing off with an L2 or R2!

Somehow managed to beat both the Cleric Beast and Gascoigne without dying... only to get my shit pushed in by a random pitchfork mob.

God damn it.

Holy fucking shit, this game is amazing so far! 45min in and sadly I have to go to sleep because I have to be at work at 7am :/ but after work tomorrow I'm doing NOTHING but diving deep into this game.

I'm so pumped I don't know if I can even get to sleep lol

Also playing aggressively is highly rewarded in this game. Approaching encounters with trepidation is a good way to get destroyed, but I've had much better luck going in guns blazing. The way you keep health by landing attacks makes a massive difference.

Do we have info regarding the online aspect? Is there a soul level you need to be within range of in order to summon or be summoned? I have had the game for a couple of days and killed around 10 or so bosses but I haven't leveled up much just in case there is a level limit on multiplayer. Would like to play with a friend who is only getting the game tomorrow.

I know that feel. Killed the big beast near the start, went to circle back to the ladder to go spend my blood, got killed by the first enemy you encounter outside.

I gotta say the enemies taking your echoes is an interesting mechanic..I fought the big ugly guy banging on the door, next time I rushed towards him, and he got them...boy I died quickly.

3 hours in, just beat the first boss. So, SO used to DS1 where you can just circle to the right on every boss. Took me an hour to figure out that dodging backwards is a viable and excellent option. I played tank in every other Souls game, so this feels like a whole new experience. Love it. So much.

I love the Elder Scrolls games. What that in mind, will I enjoy this game? I've never played Dark Souls.

I got back into gaming with Oblivion and Fallout 3 as I loved the exploration of a huge map...Demons' and Dark did that for me and added awesome gamplay, organic controls, and fun multiplayer....the bosses are all varied and epic. You may not get the depth of RPG aspect (making your own potions and swords etc,) in BB but you will get incerdibly tight ergonomically correct and organic combat...something elder scrolls never figured out. In BB it will be more about getting past epic bosses and there will not be many quests or side quests.

Just a heads up about summoing...
it uses up an insight when you ring the bell, regardless of whether or not anyone actually joins you.

Seems broken and something to be patched.

hmmm, dude gave me some consumables - want his gear for sure but wasn't sure i should attack him

decisions decisions

does he just drop the attire, or does he drop a weapon as well?

between dying constantly, the load screens, and running through the same areas over and over

idk.. this series might not be for me :(

feels like a game i could enjoy watching a good person play

That's so stupid. They had the same problem with Dark Souls. When you would use a cracked red eye orb, it would use the item whether you invaded or not. It ended up getting patched. I'm sure this will be soon too.

Got to that first boss. Was doing like 25 damage a hit with the cane, lol.

Unlocked cam made it easy enough to dodge. Triggered a parry thing on it that did quite a bit of damage, I suppose it's from headshots? That and molotovs nearly got the job done.

So I started with the threaded cane but getting used to the evasive maneuvers is what I'm having a hard time with. What tactics should I be using? So used to ninja Gaiden and dmc type maneuverability that the limited movement and environment is screwing me up
