NO I MEANT

HOW DO YOU RIPOSTE

I am sadly getting more frustrated with this game than I have with any of the previous souls games... I don't know why exactly, but I'm not sure the more action oriented nature they were going for fits this style of game. It made more sense to be defensive in the Souls games, and the mechanics are basically the same, except they want you to be more aggressive, but the enemies are still just as aggressive, so one fuck up, and it's death.

It's frustrating when I've gone through this opening area a dozen times, and I still have no idea where the next lamp is.

Ok so stand behind enemy, hold R2 until it "clicks", then release.

Position yourself behind or infront of the staggered enemy and press R1?

Is that it?

Back...stabbing?

Yoshi...I don't know how to tell you this...there is no backstabbing...

No backstabs muwahahaha

peoples playthroughs will actually look kind of legit. not just running behind someone all the time and backstabbing

You both are wrong. You charge with R2 behind someone and if you hit them with it then it opens them up for a backstab with R1 that does a massive amount of damage like with a gun parry.

any idea how to use passwords for co-op? FromSoft please.

uh, there is backstab.
charge attack from behind + normal attack after it. it's harder to pull off.

just killed the second boss, got only 1800 souls. the hell?

You dont have to release it attacks automatically, idk if u cant hit from front doubt it. You have to gun parry for front riposte.

All transformed trick weapons have a special L2 attack
The 1handed ones doesn't. Saw Cleaver/Spear and the Threaded Cane don't, you just shoot.

So let me see if I got this straight, all of the following attacks are:

R1, R2 and L2?
And if I transform weapon, I have an entire new selection of R1, R2 and L2? I'm lost :lol i thought L2 was shooting the gun?
From what I've gathered so far, only the 2handed ones do. If you're using the transformed Kirkhammer, R1 is normal attack, R2 is strong with charge etc and L2 is a horizontal bash that hits enemies in a cone in front of you, the same thing happens when using Hunter Axe.

No they dont, only ones that occupy both hands transformed. Otherwise L2 is offhand attack (gun, torch, etc).
Yep

I'm watching a live stream of this atm and the loading time after you get killed is insane (on this guys play anyway) does it always take ages?

Ooh so basically:

Guns for front ripose
R2 for backstab

i have a question about the boy in the house:
i gave him that accessoir from his dead mother (after the second boss). Then he was crying. now i visited him again and he was gone.
did i miss something?

You realize there are defensive options—two types of dodges and a parry—that you can use? Being action oriented doesn't mean you have to just mash buttons and hope you survive. I mean I didn't die once until I got to the second boss, just dodging enemy attacks or patrying them. Hell I beat the whole starting area up to the dream with my fists just by dodging and backstabbing...

For second boss:
you can play the music box you get from the child to distract him for a little period of time when he is in beast form (he's his father). i don't know what happens when he's in human form … will test it with my second char ;-)

wait a sec.... where is this
child!?!
i totally missed it.

I wonder if (weapon spoilerish)
cannon/harpoon
combo is viable, and how I would upgrade my stats?

Otherwise twin blade all the way.

Love my job. I work overnights and got to play this from 12am-4am. I get if of work at 8 and then I'm off until wed night so it's a Bloodbrone marathon! So exciting!!!

Yup, and backstab is "stronger" because charged melee attacks are pretty devastating. The actual riposte does same damage (i think). And most if not all charged attacks lunge you forward a bit so you dont have to sneak up and butt hug enemies to initiate anymore :P

Need help, Spoilers for before the first boss

I took the sewer underneath and back up a long ladder to unlock the shortcut. How do I fight the first boss from here? Do you have to fight the werewolves on the bridge?

Is it still R1 behind the enemy to backstab?

I've done this by accident actually....so I know there must be a way, never been able to do it again though....

Also about parrying... it seems you have to time it exactly right, there have been times where I shoot the enemy as they go to attack me and it doesn't work. I think you have to do it right on the enemies down swing at you....

Just started to play this and got to the part where there are alot of baddies around a fire. CANT KILL THOSE BASTARDS! :D And I have to admit, I'm loving the game even though it is hard, atleast for me as I have never played a Dark Souls game.

If you have a checkpoint,
there should be an area with two ogres and then an elevator, you can swing around back right past the wolves, fight another ogre and some crows, this will get you to the cleric beast. Father gascoigne if you go to the other bridge with the burning boulder.

I never played a souls game before, so I am new to this kind of game.
I knew it will be hard, but after two hours I haven't reached the third checkpoint. I die to often. But it's fun!

Never played Souls so I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

To hedge my risk of losing too much blood in case of a surprise death, I kept going back to Hunter's Dream to use my blood on armor upgrades before clearing Central Y. Does this sort of backtracking make sense?

Bought the repeater pistol but since it uses 2 QS bullets per shot I'm not sure if I should use it over the hunter one. The gun parry mechanic is great and seems to have more forgiving timing than parries in the Souls games.

I feel like I'm crazy because as far as I can tell, I'm one of the only people having this issue. But my game feels like it's running constantly at 20-25FPS. It only ever feels like a proper 30 in Hunter's Dream, and even then the framerate will dip. It's definitely not my display, so I'm wondering if maybe something got messed up during install? I'm reinstalling right now just in case, but not holding my breath.

Just hangs in there. If you're frustrated take a break

I did the same thing, whenever I have 2000 or so blood echoes I head back to hunters dream and spend it on blood vials, molotov cocktails, weapon upgrades, or leveling. I wish there was a way to store it safely in hunters dream but there doesn't seem to be. Risky stuff man :p

It's overly cautious but nothing inherently wrong with it. I certainly wouldn't ever play like that, I like to just go until I die, then get my echoes back and upgrade.

Yeah that's basically the loop of the game. Make some progress, go back to Hunter's Dream when you want to spend your cash.
