Okay, gonna go have a nap until midnight so I can play while not being tired as hell...(and go to work at 4...>.<)

See you guys on the other side!

Yup, that is the trigger, and you can get insight before entering the area or triggering the boss if you explore enough ;)

You DO NOT need to encounter a boss to level up.

Good to know!

Other things, anyone know if you can respec or change appearance later? Just curious.

Also, yeah that dude in the wheelchair in the house near the bridge, was it wrong to kill him?

Only just started this and haven't spent much time with the Souls games so I'm probably asking stupid questions but...
  1. What's the easiest way to get back to the Hunter's Dream? I'm finding that I really struggle when I want to upgrade and have to find my back which often means I die before returning.
  2. Is there an in-game map? If so, how do I access it?
  3. Is there any reason in me knocking on doors and talking to people or is it just too add to the atmosphere?

Not in the same sense as Souls where either weapon can go on either hand. LH/RH weapons have different designations. There are some LH weapons that aren't guns, like the torch. Since the kirkhammer provides both a longsword and greathammer type moveset, it is similar to duel wielding/ power stancing these weapon types in Dark Souls, but with much more fluid combos.
Thanks a lot dude! :D

That's actually pretty cool that there are dedicated dual wielding "types".

So is it worth exploring the city as much as possible before encountering the cleric beast? Or am I just going TO DIE a lot without doing much?

There's surprisingly a lot of ground you can cover pre-boss. I've now found 2 insight before the boss, getting 1 triggers being able to level up.

You don't have to kill the Cleric to unlock lvling up. Just seeing something that unfathomable is enough to give you 1 insight, which let's you "realize" the doll is alive. I actually like this premise. The more insane stuff you see, the more open to the impossible you become.

Nope you do not need to encounter, see or even fight a boss. As I posted on the last page

"I saw a few people earlier saying you need to reach the first boss to awaken the doll. You do not. You can find madmans knowledge by exploring before the boss, and level up :)"

Source: Myself :P I'm levelling up right now without even glimpsing a boss.

Ohhh, so that's what that/Insight does.

I don't know about the other weapons but with Noble Scion and Cane Whip sword thing combo is so fucking good, especially for crowd control.

This fucking game man!

Also some questions:

Where is that hunter lady from the one gameplay walkthrough? She gives you some kind of sign thing and talks about the Hunt? Can't find her, apparently she helps you later on. Also I'm still in the beginning part of Yharnam, I've beat Cleric, and working on Gascoigne right now, did some exploring of the Aqueduct too.

Is there any really killer items or NPCs I'm missing in these areas?

So far I've talked to all of the NPC doors I could find, there was one that asks me about a safe place? I have no clue where that might be in a city of crazy cultists and giant plague beasts. The Church?

Beast mode? is it in?

Anyway other than that I forgot what other questions might have, I should write these things down.

I'm going to pick up this game, but I wonder what the ETA is for the load times/frame pacing issues patch. I'd rather wait to play it until after the patch, but I don't want that to be like a month from now.

Really? That is what is stopping you from playing? Some peoples kids.

I've felt no sense of satisfaction so far. It seems like the game wants to deny it to me by killing me immediately after I get through a tough section.

I actually felt the same as you last night for the same reason. Then I found the shortcut and it was such an amazing feeling that i had walked right past it so many times

Just be patient and keep knocking your head against it, getting help from Youtube videos and here or whatever. Trust me, the reward of finally breaking through in these games is amazing.

I remember shit like facing the first blue knight in Demon's Souls being a struggle or the Capra Demon in Dark Souls making me feel like it was just impossible. But then something magical happened. I leveled up, learned the enemies and environments... and got better. It's no different here, you just have to be patient and play.

After... I don't know, twenty attempts, I finally beat the Cleric Beast. It was an amazing fight, I tried not to level up much (just two levels) in case I get too powerful, and I fortified my weapon once.

I'll rest half an hour now. What a game...

Yes. I got pretty far my first attempt but it took forever and many vials were used.

This is generally what I tried to do. I also tried to parry a few times but failed.
I farmed for vials. I ended up using about 5 in my first attempt and 7 in my second attempt before he finally went down.

Dashing was very effective, so I stuck to that and reset the situation if the left side is blocked. My cleaver was +2 by the time I fought the cleric, though the cane may just be that much weaker I suppose.

You can always try burning him. That's probably his weakness if the messages I saw before the fight are correct.

People say the frame pacing is off. How bad is it?

Almost constant.

Doesn't matter. Shortcuts are spaced pretty evenly.
There is one even before the bunch of guys at the bonfire.

A lot of the satisfaction comes from opening up pathways and connecting the world together. Be more thorough.

I actually felt the same as you last night for the same reason. Then I found the shortcut and it was such an amazing feeling that i had walked right past it so many times

OK cool. Will tackle it again tonight after work. I remember I found a lot in Demon's when I played that. Thought I was taking it slow and thorough but I guess not. I want to give this game a fair shot.

Frame pacing is really bad. Constant stuttering :(
Patch cant get here quick enough.

Feels like the game is constantly sub 30fps.
Even though it isn't.

I went ahead and started the game late last night after planning to start this evening. I couldn't resist. While I am paying for it at work, I would do it all over again without hesitation.

dark10x will be driven insane.

Most normal people will notice it but it won't be some massive hindrance by any means.

On another note, have details about beckoning surfaced yet? I've had my bells ringing, switching between small resonant and sinister, since the server went life with my level 60 character and not once have I triggered anything. I did start a low level character for kicks and got the beckoning bell and that worked within seconds. D:

Got summoned with one other helper to fight Cleric beast. Didn't feel laggy. A great first experience with the online play. I am going to be doing a lot of coop, will beat all bosses first solo though.
