Wow I really need to git gud. Keep dying to the two werewolves before the first boss. I've racked up 10k blood doing this run over and over. This is from a DS and DS2 veteran :(

I just realized I forgot I
had a torch though, so maybe that'll help the next time. They do seem to take a lot of damage from fire.

Stack up on Molotov's.

Guys, I know Im at the second boss. How do I make that elevator operational so I can use the shortcut when I die?

Did you find the bottom of that elevator shaft? There's a lever right there to activate it if the lift isn't there. Unless I am thinking of something else.

uhm, there should be a npc event at the location of the second boss but it doesn't activate. any idea why?

I already talked to her, yes.

Not true, I leveled up several times before doing that. I think you just have to encounter a boss first, or leave/re-enter the dream after Gehrman offers you the use of the doll.

Nope you do not need to encounter, see or even fight a boss. As I posted on the last page

"I saw a few people earlier saying you need to reach the first boss to awaken the doll. You do not. You can find madmans knowledge by exploring before the boss, and level up :)"

Source: Myself :P I'm levelling up right now without even glimpsing a boss.

Actually after I went back to the Hunter's Dream after dying to him, I had one insight and was able to access the level up feature from the Doll, she was alive then. I'm not sure if you have to die to get 1 insight or if it was a bug. On my character that has one insight I still haven't killed the Cleric Beast.

Oh, yea. I meant you have to at least ENGAGE it before you can start leveling up.

Either kill it or die to it.

Thanks for the honest feedback

It's not that I have no interest in the Souls games -- like I said, I love the settings and environments. It's the exact type of settings/graphics I like in video games

I just don't have much interest in playing hard games (without a difficulty option you can change)

Bluenoser you are correct that I mostly love games for the experience, not challenge

So I have no reservations about using guides or getting help from friends. With this being the case, can BB be doable for someone like me? I guess I'm asking if it requires super fast reflexes to beat, even if you look up guides/info?

Requires good reflexes if you plan to solo all bosses. But luckily you can summon and get carried to avoid that. Aside that the main thing it requires is patience. The guides will help you find the shortcuts right away, which if the first area is any indication will save you a ton of frustration. You still have to overcome the trash mobs on your own. Not hard, but will require some time dying to come up with strategies for each area.

Fwiw I played demons souls and hated it because it was too hard. Gave dark souls another chance and fell in love. The main quality you need is patience and an understanding that even if it's taking you 2 hours and you can't reach the next checkpoint, it's still progress if you can just clear one more group of enemies, or get an enemy down to lower health. And the more times you go through it, you get faster at clearing up to the point you're stuck.

It might be worth trying to find other ps4 games to help justify your purchase in case Bloodborne doesn't do it for you. Check out Resogun, Fez 2, Jamestown+, and Pavillion for example.

Yeah, you just need 1 Insight, which you get by entering his area. If you want, get there, exit the game and you'll be outside the fog door with the 1 insight you need to level up. Then you can farm souls a bit and even upgrade your weapon if you found 3 blood things before fighting him proper.

It's a shame that describing these games to others makes them intimidating. I'm terrible at games and I've beaten every souls game. They can be tough but eventually you will succeed and the feeling of accomplishment is amazing. I liken It to playing the portal games. It's hard to wrap your head around the concept at first but the more you play the more you learn. The game provides you with all the tool to succeed. It's like learning to ride a bike. Don't be too worried about the obtuseness of its systems either. A lot of Is definitely shrouded in mystery but you can get by. I didn't know what 'poise' was my whole first playthrough of dark souls or 'soul memory' in II And I still did ok.

Exactly, and that is why I am not sweating the early struggle of being pounded into oblivion. I have been there and done that with the other games and know that I will learn, get better, achieve victory, experience the overwhelming gratification and move on to the next challenge. This is just how it rolls. Besides, I am anxious to learn some new tricks.

Yup, that is the trigger, and you can get insight before entering the area or triggering the boss if you explore enough ;)

You DO NOT need to encounter a boss to level up.

Anybody know how to use Co Op properly? Me and my friends have been trying to for the last 30 minutes. We go to the same area and ring the beckoning bells, set our passwords to the same thing and nothing. Sometimes my beckoning bell is greyed out

Yay! Went down to Best Buy and got my copy!

Unfortunately I won't really be able to play much right now. Have to head out in about an hour for choir practice, but I guess that's enough time to create a character, at least.

I've felt no sense of satisfaction so far. It seems like the game wants to deny it to me by killing me immediately after I get through a tough section.

So is it worth exploring the city as much as possible before encountering the cleric beast? Or am I just going TO DIE a lot without doing much?

thanks again!

It's a minus. You're maxed out so you won't pick it up. Keep in mind that it vanishes right away, so if you free up space by swigging a vial you still cant get it.

If you are already carrying 20 vials, any vial you pick up gets added to your stash in Hunter's Dream, and you will automatically refill from your stash when you go there.
