Fantastic. Hopefully they focus on the invasion storyline, considering that the series ended with "
by the way, alien invasion in 2012, and we're done"
.

Better they jettison all that crap off the side of the boat and focus on the great stuff which is Mulder and Scully investigating weird crap.

The whole alien myth-arc stuff all went off the rails after the movie.

Maybe I need to rewatch the second film. I remember being supremely disappointed in it when I saw it in theaters.

I want a six part Jose Chung's From Outer Space revival.

That's the only way I'll be happen with this.

Ideal plan:

Chris Carter writes 1 episode, because he has to.

Vince Gilligan writes 1 episodes.

Darrin Morgan writes 4 episodes, all classics.

When I rewatched the series recently all of the 'monster of the week' episodes were so much better than anything in the main arc.

Maybe that was just because it was the reverse to me originally when I cared where that storyline went.

Oh shit I never watched the second movie. lol.

Yeah, the quality of many of those "monster of the week" became like the best part for me instead of the overall arching alien/conspiracy. It was cool self contained stories delving into different creepy mythos and can be watched on their own anytime. The two parter story with "Tooms" was awesome.

Will this be good? The second film was pretty meh. Hopefully Chris Carter still has some good ideas left. At least... 6 good ideas maybe? :(

I WANT TO BELIEVE!

I suggest you watch The Fall, also with Gillian Anderson. Each season is only 6 episodes or so but it's pretty damn compelling. When you have to condense a lot of shit it really forces you to cut the filler.

The first movie was pretty meh as well. I remember walking out of the theater having no idea wtf I just watched.

this is a brilliant marketing scheme

hyping a new season (of only 6 ripe episodes!) could introduce the series to a new younger audience which could lead to increased box set sales of the old seasons

I loved the shows big episodes, small episodes, but trundling on through the years it seriously lost it's way in relation to the mythology arcs.

Later on I liked the work done by Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish but the finale was insulting, terrible and worst of all dull. The wheels had fallen off. I kept track of the arcs but I just didn't care at that point. I even liked I Want To Believe more than most but it was completely unnecessary and the main problem I had was that Chris Carter doesn't really still seem to know how to write Mulder and Scully in a relationship. And they are. David and Gillian still have great chemistry but their relationship as it stands is just bizarrely...false. Stilted? There were supposed to have been familiar with each other for 14 odd years at the point of the second movie, had a child, lost a child and been through pretty much everything imaginable together - but the way they came across just seemed narratively unrealistic. Forget psychic priests and genetic manipulation, the relationship was the most fantastical thing.

The problem with these six is that you can't undo years of relationship progress but you get the feeling Mulder and Scully will be still written in a way that treats them as characters as they were in the shows zeitgeist. You can have them standalone from a story perspective, sure but unless someone like Gilligans coming back, I don't really have faith in Carter. The show was beautiful in places throughout the years but I don't really feel theres a way back to that.

I guess this could result in the long touted Blu-Ray full release of the old series though, so maybe a small cloud that may get me to fully go back and revisit.

Perfect.

Problem is you know Gilligan is going to get at least 2 of these episodes.

Clyde Morgan's Final Repose is the secret best episode of X-Files.

So happy for this.
People are excited so I am sure there will be people trying to shit on it in here but nothing can make this not awesome for me.

Looks like I better watch the rest of season 1 through to 9.
Don't know why I stopped.

Because it becomes less about watching and more about sleeping.

I am excite though. I re-watched and enjoyed the second movie. It's better going into it not expecting aliens. And if any show will benefit most from modern cg, this is it.

I wonder if Vince Gilligan will write any of the episodes?

Loved his work with classic x-files and now Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad.

Praise the Gods! Best entertainment news I've heard in a long time. Absolutely loved this show (save for the abysmal 2nd movie). Hopefully this will be a tight and concise show that will finally wrap up everything having to do with the mythology.

Only six episodes? Lame. That's nowhere enough time to do anything tangible with the story. I don't want to see more purposeless random cases.

The "purposeless" random cases were all the best episodes.

Seriously, think about it:

Jose Chung's From Outer Space.
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose.
Home.
War of the Coprophages.
Beyond the Sea.
Bad Blood.
Small Potatoes.
Ice.

All "purposeless" episodes.

I'm happy for another 6 episodes.

I don't know how it'll all work within the world they set with the 2nd movie.

Awesome news!

I guess I'm in the minority that doesn't get the point of six episodes. 10-13 I could see. Six, though?

Agreed, seems like there should be more.

what about Skinner?

Good question, it needs to happen, come on back Mitch.

2nd movie, what is this you speak of? Crazy talk, never heard of that before.

OMG. PROBABLY THE BEST TV SERIES I'VE EVER SEEN TIED WITH TWIN PEAKS. I'M MELTING DOWN RIGHT NOW. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING.

The Truth is Right Here

The plot became an absolute mess, but the "monster of the week" episodes were usually good standouts. Like the two with Tooms.
