That might be a little lengthy, you really need to get the shortcut opened up. If it makes you feel any better I was around 3.5 hours to get the shortcut opened...including character creation etc.

im just finding it frustrating fighting 2-4 guys at once, when they kill you in 2 shots, i got no viles, no ammo, etc

first playthrough i did all this in a breeze and found this underground house, and 4 hours later in stuck at the beginning

maybe i just need a break

Asking as this thread is updating so quickly that my questions disappeared almost instantly. :P
1 - Other than finding more shortcuts / lanterns, you'll find an item called Bold Hunter Mark, something like that, that brings you back to the Dream with all your Echoes
2 - Nope. Get used to the landscape because that's all you're getting.
3 - I believe there's a few sidequests involved. The laughing door should open a door in the back after doing something, I think.

Pebbles are the BEST FUCKING THING

lol yes! The game is so dark but throwing a pebble at the back of someones head from far away just seems funnier than it should.

Drew Wolstenholm at your service.

That victorian name gen actually gave me a good name for my real name. Hell, the motto for that surname is In Ardua Virtus (Virtue against difficulties). I think it means wolf something too lol.

I would love some suggestions as well. I don't want to make the game harder than it already is by choosing the wrong background/weapon.

So for my first run though (I played a bit of Dark Souls, never finished) should I go with ...

  • Lone Survivor-SawCleaver-pistol
  • Veteran-Axe-Pistol
  • Something else?

Thankfully, there's enough upgrade mats early on at least that if you upgrade a weapon you don't like, you can catch up pretty quickly with one you do.

I'm using the axe/pistol and find it the most versitale. I also have kirkhammer leveling, but find it harder to use. I would focus on vigor and endurance as your stats to level at first, and be sure to upgrade your weapons when you can

Very true I suppose. DS2, while not as good as the other two souls games imo, was kind of like a warm blanket kind of a game. I had experimented a lot in the previous games, found the playstyle that worked well for me and I stuck with it, had a good time. Knowing that such a play style is impossible in BB is disappointing since... well most of the stuff doesn't exist anymore.

Still, I enjoyed my time playing it at PAX and reviews are all crazy good so I'm cautiously optimistic I'll still have fun.

I've only played a few hours and while I really like the game I definitely prefer the Souls deliberate gameplay, multiple weapons, armor, collectibles, etc...This is definitely a different game-type and that's not a negative just that I can tell it won't grab me like those games did...

The gate to the left of where you spawn after you die can be opened from the other side...there's spoilers on the easiest way to get to it floating around, but you're better off finding it yourself as the feeling is great!

ohhhh right

to open it, do i need to via past the place with all the guys around the fire?

Downloading my day one patch.... and it is going at a snail's pace.

Only 5 hours(now it's 7 hours) to go for a 2.69 GB download is kind of ridiculous.

edit: I think Time Warner was acting up and it is resolved, download will be done in an hour.

Does your origin impact your starting weapon choices? I didn't get the kirkhammer offered to me. Not sure if it's because of my origin, or if i have to find it later.

Also I beat the first boss and went back to the hub world, but I couldn't find the old man anymore. I'm pretty sure I didn't attack him, but he seems to not be there now. Hope I didn't miss out on him, he was funny lol.

he seems to move around. i found him napping in the garden behind the house, but then i went back again the next time and he was gone

Finally past cleric beast. I was at like 3 hits left and my game bugged out and I couldn't move anywhere and neither did he. Locked onto him and walked backwards and the fight resumed lol

Ok...so I went back to the clinic and tried to go back in the room you originally start in. It's locked but you talk with
Iosefka and she'll give you her Blood Vial.

Anyone know what it's used for?

yeah, if you don't mind getting spoiled I'd recomend watching the videos someone posted a couple pages ago.

The beginners guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJxi_w6jwRg) is great and has no spoilers...the "things you missed in central yharnam"(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFi7TPxm8ss) has some spoilers but shows the easiest way to unlock the shortcut.

It's an advanced healing item. If you use it, she'll give you another.
