Maybe I need to rewatch the second film. I remember being supremely disappointed in it when I saw it in theaters.
Ideal plan:
Chris Carter writes 1 episode, because he has to.
Vince Gilligan writes 1 episodes.
Darrin Morgan writes 4 episodes, all classics.
My friend, when she was on Top Gear recently it was dangerously yummy.
Stunning and feisty.
If things go right, again according to the lead up sources you may see a second run of six later.
I even liked I Want To Believe more than most but it was completely unnecessary and the main problem I had was that Chris Carter doesn't really still seem to know how to write Mulder and Scully in a relationship. And they are. David and Gillian still have great chemistry but their relationship as it stands is just bizarrely...false. Stilted? There were supposed to have been familiar with each other for 14 odd years at the point of the second movie, had a child, lost a child and been through pretty much everything imaginable together - but the way they came across just seemed narratively unrealistic. Forget psychic priests and genetic manipulation, the relationship was the most fantastical thing.
You're right, when has an underlying plot over several episodes ever worked out? That sounds like a great way to shackle the potential of five episodes with the compromise of a single idea. Fuck that.

This was my favorite show as a teen. I wanted to be Scully so bad. I even had a replica badge and shit. I was obsessed.
And I still don't know how I feel about this.

From what has been said in the lead up to this, the 6 episode thing is to allow for no burn out and allow schedules to be open for other things.

Looks like I better watch the rest of season 1 through to 9.
Don't know why I stopped.
Yep, it was blind hate based on the fact that he wasn't Duchovny. Always loved Doggett. When I rewatched the series recently I didn't find the Dogget episodes bad at all and really liked the character. I think at the time though most people just could not or would never accept any substitution for Mulder and Scully and that still holds true else this revitalization would probably never have happened if they weren't on board.
I'd like to hope that whoever gets to work on this isn't frozen in the 90's with their lame overarching plotlines. On the X Files? Like, never. Hence why the majority here are calling for self contained episodes.
Gillian Anderson is now a series regular in THREE concurrent tv shows. Dang girl!
Can't remember what the status of the lone gunmen was by the end but hope they're worked in somehow!
Are they still even feds?

Aren't a lot of the good X-Files orginal writers on other shows now? I know a few are doing Supernatural.
Want to know how disillusioned I am? I didn't watch the last movie. I own it. Never watched it.
I want to believe, but...
Can you watch You Can't Do That On Television next? Thanks
I want to hype so bad though! You remember, god, this show was MY LIFE. I had teen girl collages and shit up in my room! ARGH.
Trying to find out if any of the old writers are wrapped up in other shows, no such luck.
I had a gray trench. I still have it lol.

Asking again.
I am on S2 and want to watch the movies at the "correct" time in my watch. Where would they fall?

I don't know about you, but my shit is pretty thick.I'm only on board if it IS six episodes of one-offs. The overarching "they're coming" story wore thin as shit for me in the later seasons.
this is a brilliant marketing scheme
hyping a new season (of only 6 ripe episodes!) could introduce the series to a new younger audience which could lead to increased box set sales of the old seasons
Gillian Anderson did a Nerdist podcast either late last year, or early this year, can't quite remember. But X-Files was brought up obviously, and she kind of tongue in cheek led on a conversation on "if the audience would be interested".
I think her, Duchovny, and Carter have been on board all long, but I can understand Fox's hesitation. Seasons 8 and 9 were subpar, and the 2nd movie was quite terrible.
X-Files....Twin Peaks....whats next....firefl....nah, no way.
