Yes. YES.

6 eps is a perfect length IMO. Enough to do some fun things narratively, but not outstay its welcome or stretch plots past their breaking point (like later season X-files).

Maybe I need to rewatch the second film. I remember being supremely disappointed in it when I saw it in theaters.

Ideal plan:

Chris Carter writes 1 episode, because he has to.

Vince Gilligan writes 1 episodes.

Darrin Morgan writes 4 episodes, all classics.

Followed by a two-part Cylde Bruckman miniseries.

If things go right, again according to the lead up sources you may see a second run of six later.

O.o

I even liked I Want To Believe more than most but it was completely unnecessary and the main problem I had was that Chris Carter doesn't really still seem to know how to write Mulder and Scully in a relationship. And they are. David and Gillian still have great chemistry but their relationship as it stands is just bizarrely...false. Stilted? There were supposed to have been familiar with each other for 14 odd years at the point of the second movie, had a child, lost a child and been through pretty much everything imaginable together - but the way they came across just seemed narratively unrealistic. Forget psychic priests and genetic manipulation, the relationship was the most fantastical thing.

Yeah. I'm still a little torn on believing they had been together the entire time. It felt like they had actually been apart for a while or at least have big gaps in between seeing each other.

This was my favorite show as a teen. I wanted to be Scully so bad. I even had a replica badge and shit. I was obsessed.

And I still don't know how I feel about this.

I had a replica badge and wanted to be Mulder. Lol.

This show brings back great memories.

Come on sis! It can't be as bad as the 2nd movie and if they get the proper writers (Gilligan can only have ONE damnit) then it could be really fun.

Alright, 6 episodes to finish X-Files. I'll watch. I really liked the early seasons when I was a kid.

This could be really fun with the right writers. I'm cautiously optimistic.

From what has been said in the lead up to this, the 6 episode thing is to allow for no burn out and allow schedules to be open for other things.

hmmm. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

When I rewatched the series recently I didn't find the Dogget episodes bad at all and really liked the character. I think at the time though most people just could not or would never accept any substitution for Mulder and Scully and that still holds true else this revitalization would probably never have happened if they weren't on board.
Yep, it was blind hate based on the fact that he wasn't Duchovny. Always loved Doggett.

Can't remember what the status of the lone gunmen was by the end but hope they're worked in somehow!

Oh hell yes. Glad it's coming back - that second movie would be a sour note to end things on.

Now let's get the series on Blu-ray as well, huh?

It is a glorious day indeed!

Im hoping that there is a least some overarching storyline involved, even if its not revealed until the last episode but either way im happy just to have my old pals Mulder and Scully back!

Are they still even feds?

Neither of them were feds in 'I Want to Believe', so I am unsure how this will play out.
Mulder was reinstated as a temporary agent as far as I can remember, but he never remained as one after the movie ended.

6 episodes sounds fine to me if it has a decent story arc. Quality over quantity.

On the X Files? Like, never. Hence why the majority here are calling for self contained episodes.

Huh? The X-Files handled overarching stories nearly flawlessly for 5-6 seasons. 'The Pilot' episode through 'Two Fathers'/'One Son' told a cohesive storyline where pretty much every detail of the conspiracy was accounted for. Sure, one the Syndicate storyline was wrapped up, the show went a bit off the rails but the main storyarc during the original seasons is some of the best storytelling I have ever seen.

Aren't a lot of the good X-Files orginal writers on other shows now? I know a few are doing Supernatural.

Want to know how disillusioned I am? I didn't watch the last movie. I own it. Never watched it.

I want to believe, but...

Aawwww :(

Although that's probably for the best. :-/

There's no reason to think that this is going to be any good unless there are proper good writers being the episodes so I think I'll put the brakes on the hype train until we see who's on board.

For those lamenting about certain character deaths near the end of the series, things are not as they appear according to the official canon comic book.

Lone Gunmen are alive and so is Cancerman

At least as far as I've read in the comics. First 10 issues.

Can anyone summarize how everything ended? Never watched the movies and gave up after season 8ish
Did anything get resolved? What happened with the aliens?

I want to hype so bad though! You remember, god, this show was MY LIFE. I had teen girl collages and shit up in my room! ARGH.

Trying to find out if any of the old writers are wrapped up in other shows, no such luck.

Darin's a producer on a few shows right now so who knows how busy he is but OBVIOUSLY he needs to write at least one of them.

I remember how much this show influenced both of us. The first REAL thing you (and subsequently I) ever did on the internet was Role Playing X-Flies Chatrooms :lol

I had a gray trench. I still have it lol.

I liked the movie. The main plot wasn't very good but seeing the characters back and what was so thrilling for me. Movie was no where near as bad as some people say. The main character moments are as good as always. Watch it like an MOTW episode with good character moments.

So excited for these six episodes. I hope we finally get the series on Blu-Ray too.

+1 but mulder.

i remember logging into compserve for the first time with the name FoxMulder001 or something, some gal (read: MAN), named scully messaged me for sex. My young mind panicked, and I cut off the computer and ran upstairs.

Hopefully is good. That last movie was terrible, it was just a long boring x-files episode. The one with Data. Hope no one on that, is on the show, or that they've been properly water boarded to get it out of their system.

perfect time to release blu rays of the series

please?!?

Also, this is probably a test "event". If popular I could see this setting up a new X-Files series (maybe with this event setting up a new cast if Duchovny and Anderson aren't interested or free)

Nice. I really need to get back to watching the originals though (I only watched them sporadically during their original run, and have only watched the first couple seasons in their entirety).

Now, if Fox could just reboot Firefly in a competent manner, I might forgive them for the horrible way they handled their shows back in the 90s/early 2000s. Nothing like cutting off your best shows at the knees because your executives don't like or understand them.

Asking again.

I am on S2 and want to watch the movies at the "correct" time in my watch. Where would they fall?

The first movie, IIRC, takes place between Seasons 5 and 6. The latter movie takes place after the series concludes.

EDIT: Beaten.

Also, glad I'm not the only one who wants 6 standalone eps. Bring on MotW.

As far as I'm aware the first movie should be viewed in between season 5 and 6 and the last movie should be after the series.

Fight the Future doesn't REALLY tie into the series in a chronological way though. Or, I should say, it doesn't move the plot forward significantly.

I wish it were 13 episodes of quality xfiles. Six seems so short.

I'm only on board if it IS six episodes of one-offs. The overarching "they're coming" story wore thin as shit for me in the later seasons.
I don't know about you, but my shit is pretty thick.

Thanks for the info on the movies guys. It will be a little while before I get there, but I'll make sure to watch them as intended.

Gillian Anderson did a Nerdist podcast either late last year, or early this year, can't quite remember. But X-Files was brought up obviously, and she kind of tongue in cheek led on a conversation on "if the audience would be interested".

I think her, Duchovny, and Carter have been on board all long, but I can understand Fox's hesitation. Seasons 8 and 9 were subpar, and the 2nd movie was quite terrible.

X-Files....Twin Peaks....whats next....firefl....nah, no way.

this is a brilliant marketing scheme

hyping a new season (of only 6 ripe episodes!) could introduce the series to a new younger audience which could lead to increased box set sales of the old seasons

The physical media market is on life support/niche at this point so there is no way that is true. However replace "box set sales" with "streaming market value" and you might be on to something...

I want a Lost Room revival.

Now that's a series that wasn't ever even given the opportunity to live up to it's obvious potential.

Or how about a Strange Luck reboot?

Lets get some deep tracks covered.
