I was actually thinking about rewatching this show again. I made my ringtone the theme two days ago.

However, I'm so far behind in other shows, including classics, that I think it'd be silly to do so now.

Yeah, I kinda figured as much, too. Still, a guy can dream.

So beautiful. I've never stopped loving you, Scully.

Wait. First it says:

“The X-Files” gang is getting back together for a six-episode limited series that has formally been given a series order by Fox.

But then they say...

The “X-Files” revival follows last spring’s return of “24,” as a 13-episode limited series.

So which is it? 6 or 13?

Please only Monster of the week-episodes. That's were X-Files delivered. No mythology, only in reference.
I hope it's mythology heavy. We've had 9 years of both excellent and subpar MOTWs and mythology episodes. The show doesn't need more of just X or Y, it just needs to give Mulder and Scully closure. And that means bringing their entire journey to an end, which always encompassed thwarting the alien invasion.

You're reading it wrong. They're saying it's following the revival of 24 as a 13-episode series.

As in, there were 13 episodes of 24.

That's pretty poorly written then because that sentence can be read both ways.

They should have said, "The 'X-Files' revival follows last spring’s return of “24,” which was a 13-episode limited series." Their poor use of the word "as" suggests present tense which is confusing since the episodes of 24 already aired. :p

I guess I'm in the minority that doesn't get the point of six episodes. 10-13 I could see. Six, though?

Duchovny has at least one show airing in summer, and Gillian is now in the main cast of Hannibal. Both those shows air in summer, both shows need promotion, and both shows will probably get renewed for new episodes. They don't have enough time for a full season, and closure was the important thing behind doing this reunion in the first place, so it doesn't really need a full season either.

Definitely up for this, hopefully the small amount of episodes will mean quality.

Ok ok. I'm taking this slow because yeah. Pretty much my favorite childhood TV show here... BUT! I am optimistic! Because I love Gillian and David and the whole damn crew OMG! EEEEEEeeeeee....! /flop (Six eps seems perfect, btw, hopefully not enough time for them to overdo it)

I'll throw in my two cents why not

For the main alien continuity? Boring. :\ There were a few that weren't, but damn if I can pick them out. They're definitely not what I go cherry-picking when I wanna watch me some X-Files. The monster-of-the-day episodes were clearly the outstanding stories, even though they were mostly (or all? I can't remember) contained within one episode. I don't mind that kind of formula and it's so diverse that it generally tends to be way more entertaining than adding one more teeny, 'meh' thing to the alien plot line. I knew people agreed with me on this one, but I don't think I realized how many people agreed, wow.

And the movies are OPPOSITE, regarding aliens/daily monster stuff. The first movie is the BEST PART of the alien story, perfectly timed for the series and just all around a good watch. I think I might even still have my ticket stub somewhere... But, the second movie was a monster-of-the-day/movie, and it turned out to be pretty boring. So boring, in fact, I can't even remember most of the movie besides the fact they're married (and the very last shot which I thought was pretty cute, hehhhh)

Anyway, I haven't been hankering for an X-Files revival, and it's pretty well contained in its own 'verse, but if everyone's willing to come back to give it another shot I'LL TAKE IT!!!! <3 <3

So what will happen to the season 10 comic? Will it be retconned or will the show be set after the events of the comics? Would be a shame if it was all for nothing, the story is pretty good so far.

Not sure if this has been posted already, but this quote from Chris Carter would suggest there will be a mixture of mythology and MOTW (though I suppose that was bound to be the case anyhow):

"You must have the basic arc worked out in your head already.

I do, actually. I know what I want to do, how I want it to lay out—the balance of mythology to standalone episodes. Even though none of us have had contracts, I’ve only had one since yesterday, the people that are going to be involved have been talking since the beginning of the year, so we have a clear idea of how this should be, or the best way we think this should be laid out."

Not that Scully wasn't attractive, but Gillian Anderson has become jarringly hot with age.

Every version of Gillian Anderson is the hottest version. She's a mathematical impossibility. And dat voice too...*excuses self to breathe into a paper bag*

Right. Sorry about that. What I meant to say was, it's always good to see more of her on TV. Especially when that means more X-Files. I'm psyched. I need to go find out how badly Kumail Nanjiani is freaking out right now.

I can't wait. The X-Files is one of my favorite shows of all time, even with it's less than stellar seasons. Here's to a possible resolution of the mythology storyline. I'm definitely starting a rewatch.

From the other thread:

14ish

I always had hope that a third movie would be released on the date of the alien invasion, and their son would somehow be involved, either leading the invasion or fighting against it, flinging shit left and right telekinetically. Would've been awesome.

But I thought the second movie had a scene where they talked about how their kid died.

I'm in! Hopefully they can get Frank Spotnitz, Howard Gordon and Morgan/Wong to write an episode and have both Rob Bowman & David Nutter to direct them.

Sounds good, I do wish it was a few more episodes (maybe 10, 10 episodes for season 10) but I'm happy to get any X-Files again.
