i dont understand why people keep posting on gaf with stupid questions instead of playing and discovering shit by themselves.

this is like asking questions aloud in a theater or shitting on the mona lisa.

just enjoy it guys, at least for the first few hours, ffs.
Though I don't understand not wanting to discover things on your own, what's wrong with people playing the game the way they feel like playing?

It's the first Souls game for a lot of people. We need to be welcoming, not "gid gud casul"

And he is done. About time.

From software are notorious for not explaining anything in their games and for some reason people praise them for it.

As a result, people usually ask questions, especially because the game is so unforgiving and has long load times so you don't really want to die.

buying this game was a bad choice if you don't really want to die...

So I spent 10 minutes running round trying to find a weapon. I then got one. Then I spent an hour running round some sewers because I jumped down a hole I wasn't supposed to. Now I've finally found the first boss and he's kicking my ass. The issue is that, because I went on a big adventure, I have 10,000 souls locked up in there, and unable to level up.

And now I'm tired and going to bed

You have to kill the enemy that killed you to get them back. They'll have glowing eyes if they have your Blood Echos.

But in the case of the giant cleaver guy near the beginning, he was never the one that gave me my echos back when he killed me. Are there just certain enemies that just have the echos left on a nearby enemy instead?

Ugh. I'm not sure if I should send refugees to
Oedon Chapel or Iosefka's Clinic. The dude at Oedon sounds like a murderous creep and Iosefka sounds like she wants to help people, but I bet she's secretly experimenting on people or something.

Meh.

Recommended levels for
Bloodstarved Beast guys? I just can't do it, and Vicar Amelia is even worse. Rocking the Gascoigne set plus Threaded Cane +3. Any way to get Twin Blood Shards for me right now? Or I need to pass these two before?

Buy a Saw Cleaver and get it to +3. After you've killed the
Blood-starved Beast
, go do some Chalice Dungeons and git gud with the quick step like I did.

The first Chalice Dungeon bosses were for me all about timing my quick step, so I learned a lot. I beat
Vicar Amelia
on the first try after that, and my weapons and stats weren't much better than
when she kicked my ass on a dozen attempts
.

In typical Souls-game fashion, after a lengthy play session, before going to bed, I take a quick glance at the game's OT here and immediately want to check out about 3-5 things in Yharnam.
Tomorrow can't come fast enough. My bloodshot eyes need the rest, though. :D

According to another poster, it's not always the enemy that killed you, but can just be one nearby.

Nope, you'll know it when you see it.
Tall blue skinned guy, black robes, bare feet, giant tan cloth bag slung over his shoulder. I saw one in Cathedral Ward after killing Bloodstarved Beast.
ok, I'll look for him. do you know what exit I need to take from the Cathedral? The one that leads to closed door + pots or the one that leads to the next boss/next area?

Meh.

How do you get the option to send them to
Iosefka?

Does the cane start to pull ahead in damage when skill is levelled up compared to the axe (starting weapons). ??

I couldn't say for sure, but I doubt it would ever pull ahead of an Axe at equal level, since what the Cane has going for it is speed and range, compared to the Axe's damage and stun.

When I sampled the voices only thing I could think of was nutted and she still suckin. Haha ok ok gotta play now went with aged voice.

anyone knows if the girls mom is in Central Yharnam or some other place? Been looking all over Central Yharnam and nothing.

I don't understand how retrieving lost echos works. Like, it just seems like I randomly get them back while fighting things, sometimes not even all that close to where I died. Does anyone know how it's supposed to work?

If a weak enemy killed you then they will have it and you can identify them by white glowing eyes. if a strong enemy or boss killed you then it will be on the ground unless there is a weak enemy nearby then he will carry it.

I hope it remains possible to tackle bosses and areas out of the expected order, like in Dark Souls 1 (or Demon's Souls for that matter). It was neat stumbling upon
Father Gascoigne before the Cleric Beast
. (early game stuff)

Please don't do this. Try to be welcoming here. For many people, this is their first experience with a Souls-like game, and there's nothing wrong with people asking questions, regardless of how basic or easy to google you think they are. People want to avoid googling stuff a) to avoid spoilers, and b) because it's just more enjoyable to discuss stuff with people.

It's fine to advise people they should try to be more patient and observant if they missed something you feel is obvious, etc, but no need for the antagonistic tone.

You die then get sent to the Hunter's Dream. In the staircase the little ghosts will give you your starting weapons

When you get to the Hunter's Dream, there's gonna be some messengers by a staircase that give you a weapon and a gun

The messengers on the stairs of the Hunter's Dream leading up to the house give you your weapons.

Thanks guys, I just completely overlooked that when I died.

So at what point can I level up?

Take the exit straight in front of the lantern, the one you're facing when you spawn. Hook around to the right, he should be in a corner over there. Let him kill you and see what happens.

Ok I swear to god these wolves man....I just feel helpless against them.

People were saying I could lead them to some building and cheese them through the door, but I'm talking about the wolves at the beginning section. Right after you beat the brick giant. I can't find the doorway people are talking about.

This is just so brutal because I can't turn in my souls or anything. So frustrating running this same path over and over without being able to do anything with the souls I get yet.
