First time really trying a Souls game and man this is fun. Took me like 2 hours to get to the first boss, but I'll be damned if I didn't kill it on my first try. Might have used 19 potions but well worth it.

Is there some weird input buffering shit going on in this game? I've noticed that I can charge R2, release it, then tap a direction to change the attack almost mid swing animation. I've also had situations where a quick double tap actually turns into two executed actions, and I've been knocked on the ground hit X on accident and when my character stood up she instantly sat down. Combined with the sub-30 FPS and its really messing with my head.

Oh god, I'm tired.

I can't even begin to imagine how Yoshichan intends to do this for 3 days, only one day and I'm REKT, I need to sleep, tomorrow morning I'm gonna farm some insight and then continue with my quest.

The
two hunters from Old Yharnam
were pretty challenging

Just wondering if anyone could explain how to do the leaping attack with the Hunter's Axe?

I've seen it so much on stream, but I'm not sure how to pull it off.

Oh my god, just had an NPC accident and need some advice;

so I just put down my controller and didn't realise the left trigger was slightly pressed as my attention was elsewhere. Before I could react my character had moved forward in three swings and slayed the fucking doll! Quickly shut down console and restarted but it's saved with me standing over her now even more lifeless corpse.

I've beaten all I can as Sony's servers are still broken (both proper bosses, loads of grinding and levelling + upgrading as nowhere else to go after Gazza) so I really don't want to lose hours and hours by starting over. Anyone know what I've missed by this happening or what the consequences could be? I can still level by the look of things but cannot chat nor is there a leave icon. Help!

Small aside; fucking stupid game design that does not have a pause function like nearly every other offline game in this day and age. That and the very long load times are definitely my biggest complaints so far. Been loving it aside from that.

You can cheese his first form by making sure you have tombstones between him and you at all times. For the second form, use the music box the second he begins to transform, then offload a molotov or two. After that, I just kept my distance and kept throwing fire at him while healing any damage done.

This route gets you into that house as well, just from the bottom. You can actually go straight for the Priest this way too, if you want.
What music box?

The invincibility frames on the side dodge are very, very generous. Just spam it to get out of trouble if you're having a really hard time.

I found the wood shield before. It seems like such a tease. It has the blocking animation and everything.

I've played this game for 5 hours and honestly not getting anywhere.People complaining about bosses...haven't even met one yet let alone got out of Yharham central. The best tactic so far has been sprinting around like mad trying to find where to go rather than engage. Will probably change to cane like suggested earlier.

Furtherst I got so far is the dungeon with the rats and not sure where to go from there. I reach the end and not sure if you're supposed to jump down or something.also not sure if there's a path way with the werewolves way but considering I can't even handle a god damn dog without half my health getting chewed out at times, two werewolves seem impossible.

I love the art though.

Also, the pvp looks like mad. Hoping there's more streams to watch.

Don't think you can kill that NPC, just like the past games.

So, I accidentally walked into the second boss arena before ever meeting the first. I died savagely.

That unlocked the Doll, however, so I leveled up a little and took on the first boss, then went and instantly killed the second one, no problem.

Onto the
Cathedral Ward
!
Are we playing exactly the same way? Lol I just got to him without plying the first boss as well.

You didn't find any antidotes along the way to cure the poison in the fight?
Ran out. Is there a decent spot to farm?

Literally, constantly charge at him from the front. Don't go defensive or he'll get you. When you come at him straight from the front he will start doing telegraphed smashes with his right hand that are extremely easy to dodge and following up with dash + R1 attacks. Even when he's in poison mode keep charging right at his front and dodge the telegraphed attack that you force out of him. When hes in poison mode he has an additional 3-attack combo and a 5-attack combo that he can do when you charge from the front. As soon as his attack goes off you should recognize which one it is; on the 5-attack combo you'll probably have to dodge a second time because the 5th attack seems to go in your direction.

After the poison starts, I gave up even trying to parry, not worth it. Just dodge to the left and chip away.

Thanks, I'll try that out.

ok WTF just happened

just got past Father G, I found the top hat and hunter garb, but as soon as i picked it up a huge ghost hand grabbed me into the air and killed me lol

How hard is this game compared to Dark Souls 1?

It seems considerably easier, but I'll never really know, since Dark Souls was my first Souls game.

There was some growing pains, learning the controls, but it all came back to me pretty quickly. I had no trouble with the second boss, at all.

Wow, that sucks man. I'd just keep soldiering through to NG+ if I were you. At least it lets you level.

Tophat from Best Buy preorder? Anyone get it? When I checked out they took my email, I gave them the correct one but I never recieved the email yet.

Is there an Bloodborne version of this yet?

So great. All my advice is very similar: enjoy the moment to moment, not your total digitally quantified "progress." You will be so happy. <3

What music box?

You have to talk to the Priest's daughter through a window. There's a bridge you cross with one of the giants pounding on a door at one end. Next to him is a ladder. Climb that ladder and on your right there's a window you can speak to the daughter through. Tell her you'll help her out and the music box is yours.

I think your background and starting weapon have a big impact on your impression of the difficulty. A lot of people with the whip, for example, got their asses handed to them by the Cleric Beast.

That's my take on it too. But, to be fair, Dark II and Demon's weren't my first Souls games and I still think Bloodborne is harder than both so far.

I feel like Dark's early bosses are way easier than Bloodborne's early bosses, but the level design in Dark Souls is a bit more tricky and kills you more often, so it ends up being balanced.

this is my first ever souls type game. Never even tried the previous 3 and this is working out so well for me. Holy shit, what a game. I've never, ever like using a shield in any games that offered them. I just would rather dodge and get the fuck out of the way and this is helping me out tremendously.

You guys weren't lying about learning from your fuck ups and getting better. I was stuck with the two mobs for a long time and now they aren't shit. I zipped by them and kept on going. Beat the cleric boss on my 2nd try. I've quit for the day and probably won't play again until Friday. I am so glad I bought this game.

Just beat the third boss. I rang the bell and this cool dude showed up. Wound up dying while landing the killing blow due to
fucking OP poison
. BLOODBORNE.

Still got the trophies and the
holy chalice
. So good. I hope my partner was laughing just as much as I was.

That boss has serious scaling problems during its final phase. Either you get lucky with the RNG and it keeps doing the move you can parry (which is what happens in the IGN video) or it goes mental.

Sooooooo the Doll is gone. Why is the Doll gone. I need lvls ma'am.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess she moves around the Hunter's Dream. Phew.

Had to quit for the night after spending about four hours trying to get past the werewolves. Can't do it. Last attempt I had one dead and the other at a sliver of health and died, said nope and shut it off. I would end up breaking something if I kept playing tonight. I've never been this frustrated playing any of the Souls games, not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

No big deal, will be back at it tomorrow.

For question 2,
for the greatsword, beat the stank beast, then a door in the safe part of the cathedral opens up, follow that up an elevator and go through the area a little and you'll find the item for it, you gotta buy it though

I think you can get the 2nd weapon you mentioned already.

Take the elevator on the right of the cathedral and instead of dropping down when you're at that tower, climb to the top. You should find a badge in a chest near the top of the place. Then you can buy the greatsword for 20K souls.

Edit: Er, as someone mentioned, there's something you have to do first. I didn't realize you could even get to that area without having done that first anyway, haha.

Thanks for the help!

Home from work. Ready to give this another go after all the useful tips in this thread.

Just got a bad nosebleed right before starting so I'm taking that as a good sign.
