Fucking bridge wolves. Damn, that put me all the way back. Fucking bridge wolves!
run past them and the dude + crows on the bridge then it's the first boss

Why are guns so incredibly weak and yet apparently supposed to be a staple of your combat flow?
Guns are meant to stagger. Fire before an enemy hits you. The hit R1 to counter for massive damages.

Edit: this thread moves too fast D: I give up haha

UK Gaf, has your digital pre-order been debited from your account?

got an email this morning saying "insufficient balance"

despite having £32.80 in PSN credit, and well over £17.19 in my bank. ;/

Doing the
Eileen the Crow
sidequest line. Love this game.
Same here.

I was told to kill her to guarantee the drops, but I kind of want to see how the story plays out. Supposedly, getting the third event
where she gets in a fight and you hurry to help her
is one of those bugged things that may/may not happen in your game. I missed her initial meeting, but I did talk with her in the sewers, so I hope that's enough.

I just need to beat the third boss and "hope" the sidequest continues.

Just had a thought... so you can summon
Gascoigne
on the bridge, right? What if you opened up the shortcut to
the house with his daughter in
first, then spoke to her with
Gascoigne
summoned? Would anything change?

Does anyone know if you can over-level yourself out of helping lower level players like in Dark Souls? I'm doing a lot of coop

I assume so, yeah. Only if you level up yourself though, of course, no soul memory type of system in this game. I want to know what the level range is though. 5? 10? Don't want to overlevel myself accidentally and then never finish the bosses lol.

Also, just got the saw spear and this weapon feels AMAZING. Just wish it scaled with skill as well as the cane does.

Ugh, just blew another 20 heals and bullets on 3rd boss... cannot beat this guy. I can get him down to half health with parrying, and then he goes into apeshit mode and either his poison / constant fucking attacking gets me, or he just grabs me and 1 shots.

Cheap with a capital C.

OH my god, mind just got blown by this game. (LATE 2nd set of areas spoilers, 17 hrs in):

Bergenyerth just destroyed me with the cthulu monsters, but after fighting enough to get to the top of the school, I was amazed by the moment when you leap into the lake into a new area. There has to be some sort of huge lore for the boss at the bottom of the lake who doesn't even attack you.

Is there a shortcut in old yarnham? Killed the npcs and all the monsters I think. There's a couple doors that don't open from this side. One on the right dropping down and one on the just before the climb to machine gun guy.

It seems I even have missed
the music box, I will definitely play it on NG+, this game is fucking huge and I love it, btw what does the music box change with the Father? I only heard or read that he transforms faster, or are any other differences?
, all interconnections with the places are so great. I've already beaten 4 bosses afaik, it is so hard to put this game down when you began playing it.

I'm being a scrub and summoning people to help already. Dark Souls II has softened me up, goddamn. Getting pissed at every death and having the time of my life.

I can't remember the last time a game kept me up this late after constantly failing on a boss fight. I finally beat the
Blood-Starved Beast
and it was one of the most satisfying feelings I've had gaming in a very long time. Wow. I love this game.

P.S. This is my first souls game and it sure won't be my last.

Quick question that's probably been asked a million time, but is there a patch you have to download (I bought it retail)? And if so, does it matter much to download?

I would like to play tonight, but I have a extremely slow connection so I'd rather download at night.

Look at how adorable the messenger looks! Ok in game he actually just has a bloody bandage over his head with blood dripping over him. Still!

The day 1 patch is essential, patch is 2.96 GB, it enables online play too, so yeah you should dl it.

So after dying about 15 times to that damn Hunter on the tower I just charged the SOB..he took a few hits then dodged back over the ledge >.>.

I started playing with no update.

I have no idea about this, but doesn't the game have a manual before you start it? Try and press option on the game and see if there's a manual button. I seem to remember that some games have it like this.

There's a game manual right in the launcher. It's right there big as life.

I have killed first boss and I have 4 insight points. Is there anything else that I need so that I can play coop?

When can I access Chalice Dungeons?

So coming to this game as someone who's never played a Souls game, I'm trying to adjust to a few key things. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm getting a this wrong.

1) Actual spatial checkpoints (lanterns) are rare, but certain actions within the world (opening gates for example) are a kind of checkpoint in that they have a useful effect that can't be undone by dying.

2) Other than time spent playing, the only thing I can really lose by dying is blood echoes, and those can be recovered from the place I died (or by killing the thing that killed me).

And a question:

3) If I don't mind the extra walking, is there any reason not to spend my blood echoes the moment I have enough for something I want? I only risk having the go find them again if I choose to keep fighting and get killed, so it makes more sense to spend immediately, yeah?

Yeah screw it. I'm pissed. I'm just gonna level up my character for a bit later. Better than wasting hours fighting stupid Gascoigne only for him to demolish me in
beast mode
. That
jump attack is so OP and unavoidable
.

Are blood vial heals % based? I've been trying to power through the game with starting VIT (Waste of Skin) and it's just gotten too hard. The guys in Old Y that overwhelm you in numbers just do too much dmg.

I played the music box at the beginning of the second boss and he transformed in the very beginning the the fight, I was kinda hoping he would comeback to his senses.

1) yes
2) yes
3) depends on what you want to buy. you can often farm items like blood viols and silverbullets. I would mainly use the echoes to level up and buy equipment and weapons you want

Respawn of all the enemies. Depending on the area and your skill this can be a big con :)

You guys arent alone, I spent a good 3 hours last night on this bit gradually learning how to play the game (my first foray in the souls type games).

A great tactic that will save you being over run is to take care of the enemies on the main road then heaf up to the right (up the stairs. Then from there you can run down to the main path and lure them up the stairs three at a time and take care of the. Then you can bypass the sniper at the far end and run up to the opposite flank and take care of the dude on the coach and the wolf leaving you with the sniper at ground level.

Then unfortunately the next area us just as hard. I got what I thought was really far only to get absolutelt battered by a group of rats.....which threw me back at the starting area...

Does anyone have any tips for genuine noobs at these games. I feel like I have formed my own strategies but i dont think they are right...I seem to be almost winging it throug.

Still as hard as it isis, i played the same area for three hours straight, must be doing something right.

Also another silly question, when do I get another checkpoint/save. My nerves cant take It?

You can just leg it past all those guys once you've picked up all the items in that area. You can basically run all the way from the checkpoint to the fountain without getting hit once. You can find a few shortcuts and open that gate in front of the checkpoint if you explore a bit further past the fountain bit.
