The Bad:
Here is where I may say a few things against popular opinion. Why on Earth any developer / designer thinks it is appropriate to put a save point (the first one in the game, no less) right before a part of the game where you have to fight no less than probably 20 enemies is a good idea is beyond me. This creates nothing at all but frustration. I spent 15 minutes working my way through that mob of enemies in the area surrounding the gigantic bonfire 3-4 times only because I would get stuck on some debris, stuck between a horse carriage, etc. and killed. The fact that these enemies have patrols (and are slow as F) makes it take even longer.
Then when you do get past that part, there is no other save point to be found. Going back to the previous one only sends you to the hunters dream, meaning all enemies respawn. I appreciate difficulty, I hate how modern games are easy, but to design this section, the FIRST in the entire game, this way is just a poor choice in my opinion. Granted, these enemies are mostly easy, but I am all the way to the Cleric Beast and I still haven't found a second save lantern. THERE IS A SHORT CUT you can open up, so that helps.
I also disagree that "all your deaths are always your fault". I've had several occasions where an enemy goes into an attack frenzy and I am "animation locked" as in the game wont let me roll away OR attack back. I don't see how dying in that situation is my fault. You could argue it's my fault I got into that situation (this was a new enemy, no idea what his attacks would be) but the game gives me no way out.
The blood on the ground of fallen allies also works about 1 out of every 10 times I click on them. If this is a mechanic designed to assist players, it needs to actually function.
Mine arrived today too.
I'm pressuming it'll work online considering it's not meant to be released until Friday
Yay, blood starved beast down. Thank you pillars, lol.
My first "souls" game. Didn't expect to buy it but all of the positive chatter it had been creating made me go to Toys R Us and grab a copy.
I subsequently died. Many times. With many games I think that would make me enjoy it less. However, I find with Bloodborne, I'm at work now thinking about how I can get good enough to succeed. It's a cool feeling.
Okay, thanks for the help guys I'm going to farm some blood echos and level up a bit before trying to fight a boss.
This game is completely different than any game I have ever played. Last night I was raging so hard while dying over and over, but it's oddly addicting. I had some dreams about the game last night and I woke up and cant stop thinking about different strategies I want to use and how I can correct a lot of the dumb mistakes I was making yesterday.
Had to fight the bitch like 12 times before I got a lucky round where he didn't use his 1-hit kill on me.
I haven't defeated the first boss yet, will I be still be able to level up my character?
Here's something I need to know that I can figure out. What stat runs the Saw Cleaver. I can't tell in the description if it's a strength of skill weapons. I dumped lots of points into STR but that didn't raise the attack power so it must be strength?
Thanks for the replies everyone. I do like the game and i'm starting to love it.
I am still confused as hell about saves. So I don't have to go to a lantern when I want to quit? Sorry, i'm a bit of a Miyazaki virgin. I only played Demons Souls for about 4 hours (loved it but life got in the way).
So last night I beat what I thought was the first boss, but I guess it was the second boss?Father Gascoigne.
Where the fuck is the actual first boss? Apparently I'm blind...
Yay, blood starved beast down. Thank you pillars, lol.
Lol the first time I got to Hunter's Dream I went immediately to the stone and teleported back to the hospital. I punched dudes all the way to the big burning stake and wondered when I would get weapons.
OTL
That's just a bonus and I think every stat increases your Phy Def a bit. Endurance is vitally important, as it governs the length of your Stamina bar.Got a question for you folks, since this is my first "Souls" experience and I feel like I'm missing something.
When leveling up, I see that a single point in a stat like endurance can up your "PHY DEF" like three points (from 103 to 106) for example. However, when I bought a new armor at the Hunter's Realm, a single piece jumped me up about fifty points in that same department.
Is your base physical defense different than the one listed for armors? Because it almost feels like I'd be better off saving for armors than wasting points upgrading that stat.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
it is saving all the time, don't need to go to a lantern, when you kill an enemy it saves, when you pick up anything it saves etc...
same as DS
So... Seems like i skipped the first boss. Where is it anyway? Im on a third boss already...

You can easilyI've gotten to old yharnam fuck that douche on the gun he's so strong
I somehow beat the werewolf with a counter attack. Afterwards I thought I'd find a weapon on the ground or at least a cool bonus item so I kept on punching. I punched a lot of dudes.
So let me ask you this, if I quit at a random place in the game world, when I boot it up later, where will I start at? A lantern or the hunters dream?

How do you counter attack?
bridge that has two werewolves on it? HEad away from them, past carriage and it will trigger boss.
SO, I read somewhere that there are hidden rooms in the sewers? Down the path with the crawly things and birds, in the water? Can anyone confirm? I'm at work plotting out my next moves for when I get home.
Yeah it's B just checked. (just second upgrade too)
And I'm trying to avoid all spoilers and all advice online... but those two symbols have me curious. Nothing in the game tells you. So... I might have to check online to see what they mean. Since it will be hard for me to test it myself.
edit: lol I typed c for some reason. haha
