Sigh, I already want to respec. I'm loving my +5 Threaded Cane, but the Kirkhammer is beckoning to me.

I really like the lack of weapon diversity in this one, and how it forces you to really specialize in one.

Hit up on the dpad. You do get a shield, but I haven't tried it. The gun is fantastic though, so much easier to parry in this game.

Is there a tutorial on the parry? Seriously, I didn't even know parry was a thing until DS2 and I've never once done it. I block dodge and strike.

There was ONE enemy it works on. One of the work creature and if I shoot them in thier attack animation, I can get the big hit. Every other enemy I've tried it on at all doesn't even flinch or stop attacking. I shoot them and then get hit because I used the gun.

Ok, just finished first boss, I have a question.

Was their any way to counter him at all with pistol? I noticed when I did a shit ton of damage with a molly he went into a critical state and allowed me to pull off a "counter" move that did massive damage

It seems that you can do it a time or two but he won't sit there and let you do it over and over. I learned that the hard way last night.

It's all about timing. You have to shoot just as the enemy is attacking and THEN hit R1 to do massive damage. It takes practice. Try it out on the towns folks to learn it.

Reversible cover!

Found the big pig to be reaallly easy. surprisingly so.

Scary at first though. Why does everything in this game make HORRIBLE NOISES.

Don't think you can actually consistently riposte the first boss. He seems to have some sort of meter which needs to be lowered before he goes down.

I think the starter pistol is faster but has a smaller range and the blunderbuss is slower but has a longer range (timing wise). So far, I don't know if its early or late but for bosses, I tend to shoot at specific frames which has been pretty successful.

As for the Kirkhammer, the damage varies depending on how and where you hit. I do 50 damage sometimes when its at the edge as opposed to hitting them full on center with the hammer which does 350.

Aha. I had a suspicion about hitting dead on with the hammer. I'll experiment with it more, didn't have a lot of time last night.

That does make sense about the boss though. My last run I blew about 20 bullets on him and only got two ripostes, but I was trying to time it rather than just shoot him in the face a bunch. Perhaps the repeater would be more reliable, guess I can just buy one and try it out.

As a Souls vet, Father G is giving me a ton of grief. Can get close to killing him, but can't finish him off.

Are there any alternate paths to explore? Or is he the only way to progress now. Already beat Cleric Beast.

This is worth watching for just about anyone starting out...it helped me lots.

Only way to go is through him.

Been playing a lot after getting the game yesterday. Managed to kill
Gascoigne
after a few tries.Tried some co-op and on the first try I got stuck on an elevator and then dropped through the world to my death. Second try went much better although I have to say that having 3 players really destroys the performance during fights. At the end of the day I made my way to
Blood-Starved Beast
and went to sleep.

Today has been mostly farming 70k echoes to buy some sweet items. At least I can clear
Old Yharnam
pretty much with my eyes closed now.
The guy using the machine gun
is a real pain in the ass though, both during the area and when fighting him at the top of the tower.

Also managed to have my first match of PvP, which was a bit laggy like the co-op sessions, but I'm chalking it up to my terrible connection.

Here's that PvP match if you're interested in seeing some
dagger action
(very sloppy though)

If you've already explored the aquaduct area, then he's probably the only thing you can do right now. Unless there's something I'm totally missing about the starting area.

From what I can tell anyways, only certain attacks can be parried. Like the big guys with the rocks or whatever, I can't parry their swings but if you back up and let them charge or leap at you, as long as you shoot them during that attack they'll stagger. Someone else may be able to explain better, but that's what I've noticed, you gotta figure out what you can and can't interrupt.

Man Watchdog is ferocious. I'm really wanting to up my vitality but trying to hold off on leveling so I don't get too far ahead of my brother.

What level did you guys beat the Blood Starved Beast at? I was getting rekt last night. :(

Any tips?

for me it was all about timing.
Don't get greedy. When he attacks, dodge back then do a jumping R2 attack then back out.
Rinse and repeat

I just beat the
Cleric Beast
and I'm using a Skill based build with Threaded Cane. Is it worth fortifying the cane to +1 or +2 at this stage in the game? I basically want to know if it's worth sticking with this weapon for a while with my Skill build or if I should save those upgrade materials for another weapon. Not sure how common the first group of upgrade materials are.

Get a couple of molotovs for to finish him off when he's low.

20. Here was my successful run:
Third-Boss

Wait for it to swing at you with its right arm, that's a relatively easy parry. When it goes towards the sky to swing down, you can parry when its kind of standing at the very top.

I stayed the fuck away when it was in poison mode. There are three antidotes behind the altar. You have to take a few risks and abuse the regain mechanic to get a lot of damage off.

So I went to this one female npc in this secret path a little ways past the house with the wheelchair guy you kill for bullets. She hands me two items but I can't find where the other item is on my inventory. A cape I believe it is. What does it do.

Ring that bell, bro.

Fuck this game. The difficulty curve is beyond anything I ever played.

But I can't help it, I always feel like coming back :( ..fuck this game

Soon you won't even be mad about it.

This game is fantastic. Downloaded it and was surprised i could start playing it 9pm monday night, i almost messed my pants. The world is amazing, so many Demon's souls vibes going on I was in love.
Having some trouble with Father G. I can parry him in human form like a mother fucker, but when he transforms i keep getting stuck on gravestones when i dodge and he combos me to death. So far one of my only complaints is that there's so much shit everywhere it hinders the great dodging in the game, oh well I know i'll get him tonight.
It's all i thought it'd be and more.
BLOODBORNE!!!!

Fight him since you'll need his item drop. You need to use your pistol since that knocks him down and once he gets to his beast form just dodge roll get in a couple hits rinse and repeat oh and when he jumps high make sure not to get aoe damage

The fact that it was apparently a bottleneck bothered me too. Buy lots of Moltovs and save them for the second form!

it's less of a curve and more like a wall that you have to first climb to in order to find a roof, gently sloping upwards with a couple spires spiking upwards.

But once you've climbed that wall, wow, what an experience, eh?

Has anyone found out (Cathedral Ward spoilers) what the
fucking invisible Eldritch Horror thing is that grabs you
outside of Odeon Chapel is?
How did you know it was
an invisible creature? First time I got grabbed by it, I thought it was just some weird vortex.

As for an answer to your question:
I have no fucking idea. It's the spider thing with human hands from the previews. I think they're some sort of godly creatures in this world...
