Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

A question in advance, how would I go deleting everything of VHBL when I eventually plan to move on? I have PSP Filer installed but I guess I can't delete VHBL fully while PS Filer is running or can I? And can PSP Filer delete itself, as in, is the EBOOT loaded into the RAM? :o

Easiest/simplest way is to just format the memory card and transfer everything back to the vita when you've updated.

Can anyone explain to me how to get CFW on my PS TV? I think it should still be at 3.20 since it's out of the box. Wololo.net doesn't seem to help me too much, I need step-by-step instructions.

Do you have an exploit game to work with because if you don't, then don't bother.

I can't seem to find a list of games that are used, other than Patapon 2 for a firmware I'm not using.

Looks like Numblast can be used to run ARK-2 eCFW on 3.36?

EDIT: Nvm, only the PS3 version is on the store. damn.

So any reason to not update to 3.36, then?

You can try holding out hope for the currently known webkit exploit to be further developed but there's absolutely no guarantee when that will happen or exactly what that will entail (i.e. it may only go as far as playing homebrew and not ISO backups of your psp games or it can blow the door wide open, we don't know yet).

If you're playing physical games and don't intend to play online multiplayer, it's not hard to stay on 3.20. If you have a PS3 you can even use a trick to download games for Vita and bypass the online check, although the more recent Vita games might not work as they'll require higher firmware.

Grim Fandango is for PS4 and PSVita only, I haven't seen any confirmation of a PS3 ver.

I think he's talking about downloading the Vita version onto the PS3 to transfer later.

Yup. A google search seemed to indicate people have been able to do so but I can't do it from either the web store or the PS3's from what I can see. Maybe it's a regional thing, I don't know.

Really sucks though, I don't have a PS4 and I'm not getting rid of my exploit. There isn't some sort of trick to it now is there? :/

Just got a PSTV with 3.20 firmware which according to the internet is basically 3.18.

My Vita is on 3.18 with an exploit game. If I plug in my Vita memory card will my PSTV be able to run TN-V?

EDIT: Yes!!!

Does anyone know if Tales of Hearts R works on a 3.18 Vita? I want to pick it up in the upcoming sale (along with VLR) but IDK if it'll play on my sys.

Had a quick web search and an ISO (disk image) of the original 3D/G+ weighs in at around ~330MB. Even if they compress the audio (which I guess is the likely culprit in image size) they'd still be looking at least a 50MB download.

I'm missing something here.

Is Xevious a new exploit game?

I was hoping someone could check. The game's removed now, seems they didn't upload it to PSN properly and now all I got is a 224 KB file which would be the game lol.
I'll contact support later for a refund or some such.

Dumb question - what's a package installer and what's it used for?

It's a hidden function in Vita that installs the games or apps that are downloaded from the store.

You'll notice every time you download something, it has to "install" it first as content downloaded from the store are in the form of "packages". Through certain tricks this installation function can be exposed for our use. Last time it was made available was on 3.18

It's not incredibly useful so far. Best it does right now is that it let's you install demos or drm-free apps from different store regions if you can find the link to download the package directly.

If that package installer news is true, then it might have. The problem with Vita hacking is that people focused on the PSP emulator way too much, so progress on native hacking stalled for a long time.

This is simply not true. No one was going "I'd rather have PSP hacking than work on Vita."

The problem is/was that the Vita side hacking is the much much harder endeavor... With the PSP, Sony left the front door (japanese firmware 1.00 had zero protections or checks against unsigned software) and backdoor (simple exploit on firmware 1.50 meant all regions had access to running homebrew) wide open... So hackers and programmers knew the PSP inside and out within months of release... With Vita we got no easy exploit, we had no way to scan the memory to determine it's layout and structure. We've had no way to pry inside and watch what it does to look for an exploit....

So back on topic... 'had anything come of it'... if you're asking if you can currently use that exploit to gain custom firmware and the like you're out of luck. There is slow progress being made, but it's going to take time.

I'm not sure I understand this correctly. I have a Vita with an exploit. Do I need a second Vita/PSP for this new thing or is the single Vita enough? The 'you’d need a PSP or another Vita with an exploit already.' that's confusing me.

It probably does something to the memory card that allows for the exploit to run, but you need to execute it once on an already-exploited device, is my guess.

I'm sure there's a new PSP exploit on the horizon, but unblockable? I believe it once I see it.

Nevertheless, I have my PSP ready for the release. It's great either way, just a little skeptical.

I just wish there was a hack done up for the PSTV where Netflix would work and I could load emulators on it somehow...

The package installer let you do that. That's assuming you're on a firmware that still supports the trick (3.20 or below):

coupled with:
http://wololo.net/2014/05/07/how-to...a-the-vita-region-lock-and-the-pkg-installer/

To be perfectly honest I'm not sure if this still works, though

So all we have to do is wait for a non-unblockable exploit, apply that to use this "unblockable" one and we'll be set for life?

Huh.

I've never bothered with Vita hacking for PSP backups before, but my PSP battery is almost entirely unusable now and I still have the back-half of Valkyria 3 and hopefully this Yakuza Black Panther fan-translation to play through one day.

Will keep a lookout for this unblockable one that needs a PSP then.

Not sure why you'd need a PSP since the PSP is unblockable isn't it? That last "firmware update" didn't really stop anything did it?
Wait, I haven't read it, but could they mean you just patch whatever on your unlocked PSP and then send it to the Vita via the content manager? This works for me, because I have a PSP-1000 with the Pandora battery. I haven't used it for yonks (and to be honest, fucked if I know where the thing is) but maybe it'll come in handy again.

It's possible. But I don't think Sony wouldn't just... shut off PSP save file transfers and be complete dicks about it.

They're saying it's not via saves (though I assume it's still something that's transferred via CM). It sounds like if they want to try and block it, they have to do something outside of patching savegames.

How, I don't know. But I applaud Qwikrazor for thinking outside the box on this one.
