I've permanently lost 30,000 Echoes to this one Flametorch wielding guy alone. He's killed me so many times. So. many. times.

The guys with the big pimp hats? That flame attack is insane. Luckily I was able to roll out of it the only time I came near death fighting one.

What weapon are you using? Strength weapons like Hunter’s Axe and Ludwig’s Holy Blade stunlock the big guys. EZ mode.

I did eet.
amelia dead. Numbing poison helped. I ended up taking her last half out without any vials, lol. intense as hell

Save and quit or come back later after going to Hunter's Dream.

The item should be there where he was.

Same thing happened to me.

Doesn't he give you the brush off emote if you where the black church set he it's not hostile if you up there I've been hearing I did and he still one shorted me and I feel down the ladder :/ would someone pls tell what you have to do to make that happen.... I haven't damaged him at all yet??????

It feels like there's a lot more positivity and appreciation for Bloodborne than there was for DS2, which right out of the gate was being knocked for it's combat, level structure, etc..., though that could just be the new IP smell.

But there's no denying it's much less of an RPG than any of the Souls games, and if you really appreciate making a unique build and having your own personalized character this is certainly a step back. Personally I'm not bothered by that as much as I thought I would simply because the setting, art, and enemy designs are really amazing.

Might it be a bit early to shut down the build discussions before the game has a chance to mature?

I'm probably about 5 hours in too, and realilisticly in about 20 minutes of progress into the game.
I just made it to bridge with the two wolfs by luck, but died 😳

I've had the game since midnight launch.....

But I love it so far

Insanely fun, time to beat
Father G
and move on to a new part (finally :P )

Also managed to
beat the pig, get all loot and that armor set in sewers, and got the music box.

How did you beat him?

Staying in tight was key for me beating him.

I knew the load times weren't gonna be good but I was not prepared for how annoying they really end up being. I guess it opens up time to post on gaf.

Enemy designs, level design, art style everything destroys anything in the Souls games so far. I hope the souls team looks at the amount of love poured here and really focus on doing this well for the next souls game.

Heh. I think it's better.

Didn't like Demon Souls at all, but I LOVE this game.

I put hundreds of hours into the Souls games, and I have no idea how someone can say this isn't a Souls game. I guess we could argue about what makes a Souls game a Souls game, but to me, if you sit a person down and have them play all 4 games, this person will say that all 4 games have the same base characteristics and core values.

Yes, that one. He's even snuck up on me while I was taking on the big guys in the near Courtyard. :(

I'm using the Saw Blade, I've only killed 3 bosses, so far. I like the Saw, though.

this game is genuinely terrifying

but I'm in love with it

tbh I didn't think I'd enjoy the setting nearly as much as Dark Souls since Victorian didn't appeal to me to the same extent that Medieval dark fantasy does

but this game is just a masterpiece, from the environments to the horrors that lurk around every corner

I've never read a Lovecraft novel, though I'm familiar with the tone and setting of his works through friends, etc..this game is basically an ode to him with a fromsoftware spin, right?

I just acquired a tonsil stone or something that had a description telling me to go to an earlier area that I struggled with, it was still a pain killing the enemies there..but the payoff was worth it,
the giant spider OH SHIT moment, the nightmare lecture hall was ludicrously creepy..I warped out from the Nightmare Frontier when I arrived though, seems like that's a late game area? fourth headstone warp point while I don't even have any for the third yet

game seems intensive on my PS4 tho, I'm playing the digital copy and it's pretty darn loud, while all my other digital games run quietly from the HDD :/

I think people need to stop thinking of Bloodborne as a souls game.

It's as much of an action game as Wind Waker is an action game and by that I mean it has more satisfying combat and a certain amount of mastery to it but it's still a ARPG and not a beat'um up/hack' n' slash like the games listed above. It sucks if you were mislead by saying that it's more action oriented because it's not but it does reward a more aggressive play style that DS did not.

IMO its Mega man X / Zero to Souls series Mega man.

Is the Blood Starved Beast skippable? I can't beat this dude when he goes full poison. I could probably cheese it with molotovs but I'd rather find something with better poison resist, come back, and cave his fucking skull in. I have the Yharnam Hunter set. His melee just gets way too aggressive at like 20-30% I can barely dodge him, let alone get enough time to use an antitode or heal. Maybe you can't even get enough resist to stop his poison, I dunno. Just at a wall here and there's never anybody to summon except for the dumb npc in the area.

Just dont lock on and dodge straight towards him

Yea, I'm absolutely loving BB but at the same time I really want a proper new Souls game.

So, I'm at the
Palebeast
but, for the first time in BB, the idea of tackling a boss terrifies me so I'm trying to do everything else that I can first. I met him once and it was an insta-gib.

I've killed
the Hemlock witches and the Vicar/Blood-starved beast
. Is the area of the former boss really just two bonfires? Seems awfully small. Other than that, I don't know what else I could be doing right now.

I'm rocking a +6 Axe ad have just found the
lightning mace
which I managed to upgrade to +5 through all the shards I had been saving up already.

Any advice on what to do next? I've only died about 10 times total so far (3 of which I blame on complete BS and the rest on my own impatience) so I'm not struggling too hard. I also haven't managed to use the bells to offer help though. Is it location specific? Weird.

At the area with the two giant enemies roaming around near the Cathedral after the gate you open with an item you buy for 10k. Go to the left, one of the big guys should be immobile and blocking an area to the left. Go past him and keep going until you reach a door. Tell the guy the password which you should know. Enjoy exploring!

They are atrocious. So bad that I make sure I have my phone handy so I can play some mobile games while waiting for it to load.

Jeez, after that very first bonfire you light in Central Yharnam, where the hell is the next one? I played for like an hour and half, and after falling into that item
that ends up being an ambush of those creepy things that crawl at you and hit you
and RUNNING away until I hit a ladder, I got to
the bridge where the fire ball rolls out and kills a bunch of enemies
and then fought
the big dude that appears after
, turned around the the elevator right next to it and
died killing the two big dudes up there

I FEEL LIKE I LOST SO MUCH PROGRESS. Is there not another bonfire? Did I miss it?

Bump for next page, as I feel like I'm missing something

Yeah, and a game is much more than just its base characterisstic and core values. I don't like the setting of Demon Souls, I didn't like how offputting and unattractive the characters were, and it felt really clunky and slow to me.

Yes, I realize that if I had the patience to play longer, I probably would have been in to it more, it was years ago, but for the 5 or so hours I played, I had probably no fun and it felt gross.

This game on the otherhand, was exciting and lovely from minute 1.

They make it even harder to check out on streams. I like watching people play Souls games (don't have the patience for them myself), but the load times are making them tough to watch.

You're absolutely right, and I should have qualified what I said with a 'so far'. But there's no doubt it feels less important from the get go. But again, I really couldn't care less at this point I'm still in love with everything it does offer.

Ok dumb question. Totally new to the series. Didnt get to play much before I had to leave. Got to my first lantern and then got as far as the big dude banging on the door. I had no choice but to leave so I just turned off my ps4. Is there anyway to save exactly where you are if you need to turn off the ps4? Or do you always get sent back to the lanterns.

New to this type of game, and just fighting that first mob took a lot of tries and I don't want to keep redoing the same stuff a million times (i suck lol) especially if I miss a lantern! Thanks!

I played every Souls game as a ranged fighter. This is very much not the Souls games that I played. So that's one huge difference.

I think this game will become more of a "souls" game to people and have varied pvp once people figure out what to do with Arcane and Bloodtinge. It's just different from what people are used to.

Honestly I like it better than DeS and DS2 already. And if it keeps up the way I think it will, maybe DS too. Fantasy settings and magic are cool and all but the way this thing unravels is much more suited to my personal taste...it's a gamechanger for me personally.

When I was playing offline before the servers went live, there was a npc you could summon with your bell to help you like a second player would. He was up the hill prior to that boss. No idea if that exists while playing online but you should check it out. Totally helped me as he served as a distraction during the fight. Good luck!

How do I make myself available to help others? I like helping others to get an idea of how to beat bosses. I'm fighting the
blood starved
boss and it's proving a bit challenging.

Also, after attempting a boss a few times I run out of vials and bullets. What do you guys do, go kill mobs to farm them and then try the boss again? Wish I could just keep doing a boss over and over until I get it but I have to resupply.

just watched eight hosts in a row get obiliterated by that
machine gun.
Why would anyone summon without without assisting someone else first?

Well, here I am, downloading the day 1 patch at like 0.5 MB/s. I usually get half-decent speeds from PSN (around 3MB/s or so), but this is just pathetic. And I don't want to start playing until it's done, considering it adds little things such as online play.

An hour to go...

EDIT: And it's fucking slowing down. Still at 57 minutes. Fix your shitty servers, Sony.

You know that bridge with the fireball? Go to the left as soon as you get up there. There will be an elevator shortcut you open. From there run right past the big dudes and go straight to the guy with the torch. Kill him and climb those stairs to open a shortcut to the first lamp. Now you got a shortcut to the first AND second boss. To get the first boss you go down from the lamp, and up the building right across. Go upstairs in there (watch out for the dudes in the dark corners) and you'll end up on the main bridge. First boss is at the end of the bridge. Second boss will be on the bridge that you get to by the elevator.

Maybe this is what Evil Lore is referring to

There are certainly limits placed that force you to main the weapons available.

You cant really build an All Gunner or All Molotov thrower (even though they both benefit from stat investments) because ammo limits

- 20 Shells max but drops are frequent in Yharnam
- 10 Max molotovs

You are basically meant to specialize in one of the several trick weapons and augment your play with the various tools and items

Maybe this game is more like Castlevania than souls lol

I really hope this ends up having more diversity in terms of locations.

I know it takes in a city, but after 5 hours, it all pretty much looks the same.
Old Yarnham
has been the most different so far, but the souls games felt like you were travelling to vastly different places.

Some of the city architecture is also annoying. Weird little corners that make no sense or tiny areas that feel like they are wasted space.

Art style is great, but I haven't seen enough enemies to make a judgment on enemy design.

Having a great time with it so far, but there is definitely a ton of hyperbole being thrown around simply because it's a new exclusive IP. First excellent exclusive? Sure.

That being said, there were just more options in terms of gameplay in the Souls games.

Every time I think I'm almost done more and more keeps opening up.

Beat
the one reborn, or whatever.

Have to say, the boss fights look great but are kind of easy, particularly the one I just mentioned. B
lood starved beast
was brutal and set the harsh tone, but the rest have been two or three try affairs. V
icar A
was pretty intimidating though, and they're all fun to fight.

I've never used range except a bow and maybe a spell here and there. All about the melee combat!

Playing BB reminds me of the first time I played Dark Souls 1, quite happy to see the sewers, "blightown" and the hunters dream using ash lake design memories of those places. But this time there is one class, with variations of the same Hunter build.

Its definetely a Souls game but stands of its own as a different IP and thats make me very happy, I am suffering because I always use the magic ranged class and going close combat is really hard for me

Just managed to take down the third boss with some help from a co-op guy (took forever to summon). I swear most of the boss battles in this game consist mostly of me going "Oh god oh god oh god" and hyperventilating. Unless I'm missing something, there's a dead end after this boss. Not sure where I go now, do I need to buy the thing that costs 10,000 echoes?

Also bonus question: Do I lose the echoes I'm carrying if I die in a chalice dungeon?

Oh one more thing I don't seem to see people do much of yet:
You can have two right handed weapons so it's pretty useful to pump up both of them, and different weapons might be more useful to you personally for different situations. This isn't Dark Souls, there's no equipment load. Two fully upgraded right weapons are 4 instruments of death you can call upon in seconds flat.
