I've been on the second boss and am really wondering what the fuck is with the parry in this game.
First form of the father, he does a jumping lunge, you can shoot and do massive damage. Makes sense, feels good. You can do the same when he rolls at you. But when he makes the axe longer and does a lunge...he now absorbs the shots, doesn't give a shit, you get hit since you're now vulnerable and he combo hits you until you die. Like so.

I've been using the gun stun a lot up to this point and have died a few times to that same move with different timings and he just seems to push through either way. The feedback loop on this part makes no sense.

Gascoigne keeps ripping me to shreds but damn this game is AMAZING. Exploring Yharnam is delightful, FROM really outdone themselves.

Noticed when you die and lose your echoes then you come back to find that a random beast has collected it, eyes glowing and shit. Fuckin love it when it happens.

I was there, but I teleported out at a lantern and I don't see it on the list to go back. :/
Unless I'm just blind and missed it.
You can go back to it, the location shows up on the 3rd tombstone on the stairs.

Beat Amelia on first try thanks to the tips of strangers which said to keep in close. Keeping in close and dodging towards Amelia to keep behind her proved to be super effective!

Can anyone tell me where the shortcut is from
the forest to the clinic.
Like is it near the starting lamp in the
forest
or near the boss?

This guy took me from Father G all the way to Central Yharnam. I left his world. I thought I was going to help with Father G not go all the way to the fatty with the axe.

How quickly is the
greatsword
available from the start of the game?

Also, dose melee support the one-handed two-handed mechanic from previous games?

There is a secret! (cathedral boss)
Theres a consumable item that stops her healing and it can be found near the shortcut to the Cathedral lamp. I forget the name (some type of mist) because I used it all on her... and still couldn't kill her. I eventually got her without it because she for some reason didn't try to heal during my winning fight. Does injuring her hands also prevent her healing by any chance?

I think I got very lucky with the 2nd boss?
Dude didnt transform until he only had 25% of his health left, so I got him on my first go.

Damn, the s
ewers
were kind of scary. These crawling dudes...

I cheesed it up to (8th, 9th boss spoilers?)
The One Reborn
.

I didn't even find the shortcuts. I hated that area. It didn't help that there were
3 hunters in a room that I couldn't fight on my own at all.

those
hunter
battles are super annoying. Wouldn't be so bad if they weren't also such hp sponges.

Yes

Bloodborne is one of the most beautifully atmospheric, satisfying, and rewarding games I've ever played. Blown away by how good it is. Even the load times haven't been able to sully my experience.

I'm in love with this game.

I felt so bad dieing to Cleric Beast repeatedly and then I go and one shot (early spoilers)
Father Gasciogne(sp?)
.

Best feeling.

Bloodborne stat softcap / hardcap

Vitality 30 50
Endurance NA 40
Strength 25 50
Skill 25 50
Bloodtinge 25 50
Arcane 25 50

I don't know how accurate this is either.

There is another stat available, that is not affected by your origin choice, called Discovery and it governs chances of enemies dropping items when defeated. The higher this attribute the more you’ll find. This has direct effect on your drops, like luck stat in Diablo games would.

People are saying that Arcane is required to use some of the best offensive PvP items in the game, but at the same time some are calling it useless like adaptation seemed to be in Dark Souls. For min/maxers out there we will be creating a more advanced guide in the future, but for now we can provide you with this (speculative) data about hard and sofcaps on Bloodborne stats:

Thread is moving so fast lol

OK poll for fans of Souls:

Flasks or Blood vials?
Which game has better RPG elements (I notice BB is more streamlined)?
Anyone miss magic?
PvP more enjoyable in BB or DeS/DaS?
Miss weapons in Souls games, or do you like transformation weapons?

I had one PvP fight, it was fun, but healing is so very quick that you need to be in their face constantly.

Grass vs Vials, not Flasks! Vials are much better than the grass system of Demon's Souls:

- You can only carry 20 at a time, so you can't spam 100 heals at every boss attempt, but you can still carry more in reserve. But still a limited amount compared to what you could stockpile in DeS
- There's not 5 different types of vials like DeS grass
- Enemies drop them predictably, some with 100% rate
Vs Flasks is a whole other argument. Flasks go with bonfires/warps well, and consumable health works with the checkpoint/lamp system imo

Better RPG elements?
Dark Souls. Definitely.

Miss magic? I'm enjoying everything the game has to offer so far, and I like that ranged attacks aren't very powerful. Not really yet, no. I like options though.

PVP? Haven't touched it yet

Weapons? Definitely feel like I'll miss the weapon variety in Souls, but I'm having fun with these

It was, it's made clear when you read the descriptions.

I usually always do but after I bought the other set, the messengers disappear on me, so I couldn't read the rest of the items's description haha. Damn you Insight requirement. Damn you!

I'm covering my eyes here since I want to jump into the game knowing as little as possible.

But I just want to ask that somebody make a new thread if and when the load-times and performance patch hits.

Thank You in advance.

* stumbles blindly back out of the thread *

Amazon US just shipped my CE copy that I preordered on the 19th and was subsequently delayed until April 23rd.

Soooo. Hope I'm not alone. Whoo

I preordered the CE on March 10th and Amazon said they couldn't give me an estimate on when they'll have the game ready to ship, but they're "working hard on it." They gave me $5 of credit for the inconvenience. Maybe I'll buy some Jelly Beans and wait it out.

you can just attack her to stop the healing. even with the gun, I think.

save those items for scrublords in pvp chugging blood vials all day

question!

are drops gone and replaced with store items? I notice that after killing the first boss, I got a item and now the store in the hunters dream sells new stuff (incouding the sword/hammer thing which I need bad), is that how Bloodborne works compared to the souls games?

Finally got to play a bit. Is it worth fortifying your starting weapon? I started with the saw cleaver, but I'm not sure how long you hold on to your starting weapon for and if it's worth leveling it.

Everybody talking about how
Cleric Beast
is the first boss? I just beat
Gascoigne
as my first boss. Can't find the other one anywhere, lol.

Well off to some more exploration!

This game is so awesome.

Gonna need 10 insight to play some coop with my bro tomorrow.

EDIT: looks like I'm not the only one, heh

This game is much harder than I expected. I think I'm playing it too much like Dark Souls. Yesterday I literally broke my weapon before I even got to the first boss. I had to suicide run and farm just to level up enough to make it to the first boss. There really should have been a lantern right before the two wolves. 6 1/2 hours in and I'm just at the second boss. :(
