Just accidentally glitched the second boss into the spot were he couldn't move... I just whip cane'd him until he died lol

First try of the day too.

Three more bosses downed today, this game is honestly my favourite FROM game to date. Just got to
the unseen village, AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE TOWER SPIDERS.

But it's already the best game ever made guys :)

I'm kidding, I'm not shitting on the game (I've loved it so far), I'm really not, but the hyperbole to its quality and especially the lack of pointing out the flaws (the lack of builds is a big one) is rubbing me slightly wrong. Especially as I get the feeling that, for example, if Miyazaki's name wasn't attached the game would be being picked apart a lot more (aka I think dark souls 2 gets a harsh rep).

lack of builds isn't a flaw, that's an expectation you had.

at 30 hours or so, so far I agree. not enough items, not enough weapons, not enough builds. blood tinge and arcane seem completley worthless. guns in general are only useful for parrying, and parrying is only situationally useful. by now I barely ever have my gun out or use it for anything.

there's a pattern here -- beat a boss, get no cool reward. open a chest in a dungeon, get no cool reward. you almost never get anything cool, and over time it dampens the excitement of exploring new areas. there's no spells, no miracles, hardly any outfits/wearables, and new weapons are so rare you stop even hoping for them.

That's dissapointing to here... Probably won't beat my favorite souls game but I still can't wait to play it!

The axe is pretty damned good. The R2 Charge Attack has wrecked everything so far.

That's why I kept it equipped while I was using the Kirkhammer - it was good for clearing crowds. But after I started fooling around with transform combos is when I really started liking the weapon. I hope the scaling gets better at higher levels. Or it might not matter, maybe I'll find another weapon I like better.

Charged R2 on cleric beast was my big "get fucked you motherfucker!" moment in the game so far. It wrecked him

Are you talking about the big-ass pig? There's a drop at the end of that tunnel, so instead draw him out into the open sewer and fight. There's a couple of items and a small shortcut up for your trouble.

Right, I did get past him and hit the shortcut. I was just wondering whether the drop itself led to anything other than my death, but I think your response implies the answer =)

Holy crap, look at that whip! Single slash could take almost half of his health. It's either he's not investing much on endurance/vit or it just you whip is a
so good.gif

I think its a combination of both. My whip has really huge upgrades on it through bloodgems and fortification so that probably helped.

Got Ludwig's sword, feels kinda weak compared to the Tonitrus. Think I'll stick to the mace for now.

Yeah, I'm sticking with it too. I alternate between that and the hunter as they're both at the same level - the latter is better for when I need to keep a bit of distance. I've gotten real good at judging just when to go for an overhead power attack/charged up swing and nail bosses and mobs before they reach me.

I just got to
Byrgenwerth
and I've no idea what to do. Found a house with a crazy
magic and cane wielding white-clad NPC
to whom I deal virtually no damage and he kills me in two/three super quick slashes. Seems like a dead-end.

Guess it's time I go back and finally fight the
Palebeast
? Have been putting that off as I hate the jail-keepers and old hags so much... Seems like a chore to get to the boss, even with the
side-doors opened
.

So the Stake Driver and spear gun thing are incredibly cool. Worth using?

Also I just got to the first area of the second Headstone, and I'm impressed by this game's ability to constantly find new ways to creep me out.

I guess lots of people are having trouble with the second boss. I get summoned super rapidly to help. It's been really fun. Got him down to a science at this point.

Oh my god, invaders can close your shortcut to V
icar
A
melia
. (I realized this as I tried pulling the lever as an invader and the gate closed again. I'm not that much of an asshole, though.)

Same! Boss was a pain in the ass for me so I figured I could pass along the help to people who need it.

That katana "transformation" is so fucking good. What happens to the claymore then, anyone knows?

Just got home, gonna be ringing my bell for Father G if you guys need help. I'll be using the GAF watchword.

So I found the chick who tells you to keep your hands clean and leave
hunting hunters
to her... do I have to kill her? Is this a yurt situation?
In father gs location later on

Disappear to hear this

Definitely do agree that there seems to lack a wealth of content that Souls had. Transformations sound hard to diversify compared to Souls. And while I do not mind no spells or miracles, I am disappointed to hear about wearables. Are there anything equivalent to covenants?

I also like the setting, but think DaS' was much better with the immediate diversity. Enemies also seemed to be more diverse.

But Im at third third boss. Im hoping I see caves and forests, the diveristy of which was more apparent in DaS

Also again, the lack of lore on loadng screens takes away from the presentation for me.

So the Stake Driver and spear gun thing are incredibly cool. Worth using?

I named my character Alteisen because I read about the stake driver the day before release. I just got it now, actually.

It's a strange weapon. Its default state has the stake out and it's kind of like a claw/shortsword. When you retract the stake you punch real fast and that's about it. But when it's retracted your R2 is this crazy charge-up explosion that does a buttload of damage. I used it on one of those big axe dudes and not only did it almost do half its health it stunned it for a riposte. Looking forward to playing around with it more but I don't think it's great as a primary weapon, it's more situational. Maybe it gets more effective once upgraded, it has some very quick attacks when retracted.

So after beating Father G, I helped out a few buddies to defeat him, then explored further past him. Got all the way to (area spoiler)
Old Yharnham
and explored that pretty far, only to run into a huge-ass mob of enemies that nearly took me down. But I survived by the skin of my teeth, in a true Souls victory!

...only to immediately die to an unexpected other hunter in a true Souls defeat. Sigh. Time for bed!

Did anyone kill the gatling gun dude their first time through? I have all the shorcuts open so i can skip it if i want, but is it worth it to kill him?

After spending 3 hours just exploring the Cathedral Ward from every angle, I'm feeling like this game is almost overwhelming in the degree to which it's interconnected. I also think the lack of environmental variety is making it harder to map out in my head (though I'm also several years dumber than when I played DS for the first time).

Did anyone kill the gatling gun dude their first time through old Yharnam? I have all the shorcuts open so i can skip it if i want, but is it worth it to kill him?

His weapon seems pretty cool, and he's not so hard to beat if you just rush him immediately and knock him off the ledge. If you can't reach his body to get the item, just quit and reload and it will be up on the tower.

I didn't even mean to beat him that way, but after my first encounter with him where he destroyed me instantly, I seized the opportunity when it presented itself.

Does the black church set helps you with the dude in
Old Yharnam
or not ? Hear mixed messages, and it's not working for me.

I also love how Dark Souls gives me more options to build and play how I want, as well as the plethora of weapons, spells and items it has on offer. But that is Dark Souls. This is a new series, and while they have streamlined those areas, the level design, art, atmosphere and new gameplay is on another level for me. Beyond that, I want Bloodborne to be it's own thing. That way, we can have this and Dark Souls. Both of which need to distinguish themselves from each other.

yay got my guy looking badass

Is the idea that those birds are so fat and that's why they can barely fly? If so they might be my favorite enemies in a game in a long time :p
