Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition trailer

What balance tweaks are you guys hoping for?

I'm hoping they alter the rate at which the Disaster and Royal Guard gauges fill with Dante, it was too slow in the original.

Japanese DMC4 along with all the other DMCs were pretty much all in English except for cutscene subtitles and item descriptions and story text. I find it very unlikely that Capcom will change DMC4's existing UI just because they decided to finally give DMC a proper Japanese language dub. This is Capcom we are talking about, the Capcom that is the master of lazy.

The new features in DMC4SE are anything but that though...

So, you can confirm that the Japanese UI and menus were in English for Vanilla DMC4? That'd be nice.

Yes, I own both PS2 DMC1 original release, and PS3 first release DMC4, hence the wanting of Drink it Down to return for SE.

Don't get me wrong, Capcom is doing a bit of work so far, but DMC4's main problems were with backtracking pacing issues that are unlikely to be fixed, not to mention that the enemies weren't really designed for Dante in mind. Which always brings up a discussion of potential content cut during the original development.

Capcom is not magically going to dump things they already have on hand, they didn't do that for Biohazard ReMastered on consoles and pc or for Ace Attorney Remastered Collection on 3DS in Japan.

About the only thing I'm concerned about for right now relates to Lady and KA. After the way DMC3HD nerfed the grappling hook, I'd just like to see proof that it's back to where it should be, or better.

Fair enough but things like that are a ton of work that would take quite a bit of time, time that they are probably spending on DMC5 instead.

Still, the Capcom Unity article did mention changes to game "tempo" so here's hoping the pacing is addressed at least somewhat.

It should considering she is Nero's replacement in the missions, wonder how far they will go with it in comparison to Devil Bringer.

Remember when DMC3:SE came out as a greatest hits game @ $20?
Good times.

If Capcom charges $40 for this, then... lol.

It's going to be $40. And still a ton better than the other "remasters" that are charging $50-$60.

And this version has way more stuff than DMC3SE did.

Balance wise Full Steam and DRI will be nerfed... a few of Dante's style moves would/should get buffed.

And there's no way the Grappling Hook of Kalina Ann is going to be clunky like DMC3's.

I'm all for cheaper prices but to price DMC4SE (a much superior game to DmC with way more new features in the remaster) less than DmCDE is kinda....

I think the fact that it's a digital release only in the West is pretty telling that they won't.

REmake was on physical in Japan and digital in the west right? Was there a price difference?

They should buff his overall damage output then because without those powerhouse tools his damage feels pretty low.

Wonder how it'll run on PS4? I mean, it was 60 fps on last gen consoles so it shouldn't be a problem, but RE:Revelations 2 also uses MT Framework and just happens to have problems. RE:Remake also was ported to MT Framework with frame-pacing issues on PS4. I dunno, it worries me a bit.

Wasn't REmake physical edition just a code in a box? Or am I thinking of something else?

You mean completely break it? Heh. If Lady was chosen as Nero's replacement because of her grapple abilities, I'm going to assume that it'll be really fleshed out in this iteration.

I'm pretty sure REmake was a physical copy of the game in Japan. You might be thinking of Duck Tales.

...Point.

And considering the original form was begging to be expanded upon anyway, it'd be nice to see what they could do with it.

That'd be cool but come on man, it's Capcom we're talking about.

I'm hopeful. Their digital pricing has been pretty good, actually. Both REHD and RER2 base season pack were great values at $20 and $25 in terms of content. RE4 Ultimate was only $20 and they put in the effort to upgrade the quality.

I'm still betting on something lower than $40 for the PC version. I'm guessing $20. I know the die-hard fans here wouldn't think twice about $40 for the PC version, but let's not give them a fee pass on pricing. Considering the quality of the existing PC version they're starting with, there's not much to remaster. $40 would be a bad value on the PC, even with the new characters.

I'm hoping, though, that since the Kalina Ann is pretty clearly not going to have an equivalent to the Buster move, they find a way to do some other pretty cool stuff with the Style button for Lady (and for Trish).

Wait, so is the version up on Play Asia the Asian version or the Japanese? I wasn't aware of there being a difference. Should I not buy this version if I want the English voices?

That particular listing has the Japanese flag, so that should be the JP version.

But in any case, the JP version of the game is likely going to contain English voices and menus anyway, so you should be safe.

One thing people forget to mention is how bad DmCs hud was compared to DMC4. Just look how bad ass vergil's hud is...

They'll all have English voices without a doubt. I don't even know if there will be an Asian version of the E-Capcom Limited Edition.

And you totally shouldn't order from Play-Asia. They tend to be overpriced.

Playasia isn't really overpriced when you factor that they have to get stuff from Japan to where they are in HK and then ship it out again.

I didn't realize they were located in HK, but 9 times out of 10 it's cheaper to use a proxy or to import straight from a Japanese distributor.

All the more reason to just use the likes of AmiAmi, Nippon-yasan and Nin-nin, in my opinion. Cut out the middleman, and you may even get a lower price, compared to the likes of NCSX or Play-asia.

I've never imported a Japanese game, so I don't know where else to. I live in America and have only ever imported games from Europe (physical versions of the Pirate Warriors titles). Should I just follow the guide you posted?

Of course, that's why I buy from Amazon.jp now, but I live in Japan tho. Lol

But prior to that I switched exclusively to Cdjapan for all things Japan related, though that's out the window since it's all domestic to me now.

:/ At 720p with a 480 your getting above 300 FPS at all times with max settings from what i've seen of benchmarks. Can they really mess that up...?

*edit*

wrong benchmarks i was looking at, forget that. Still though, very well optimized game

Been listening to devils never cry, man I are we ever going to get that type of amazing trailer again. Was such a huge surprise when it was shown.

Hmm that's true, PC gamers would pay 40$ for just 3 new characters since 1080p,60fps,LDK and Turbo mode were already in the original PC version and that'd be awful. 20$ for PC version and 30$ for console one would be godly and would made DMC4SE the best remaster ever together with DmCDE. Tbh, DE and SE are like "new" games compared to average remasters
*cough*GOW III R*cough*

Regarding Trish, i was thinking about something a la DmC: in DmC we have angel and devil form for weapons, right?Trish's gameplay could be based on the different shapes Sparda sword can take(see DMC1):
-Sword
-Spear
-Scythe

Well obviously.

Well, that ultimately means that despite whatever potentially fair price they're charging for their associated service, they're overpriced for the end result, which is the import of a product from Japan. I suppose they might be okay to use for other Asian products.

The sole benefit to Play-Asia is that you can pre-order the E-Capcom LE without paying up front. The downside is that it will ultimately cost you $40 more than other options.

You can use my suggestions, or you can wait because more stores will have it available for pre-order in the near future and you can compare prices.

I always wished to see the Sparda sword fleshed out like this (I mean, it's practically begging to be done!), would be ridiculously awesome to see that finally happen. Basically three weapons in one, with on-the fly swapping.

Meh, those aren't very creative.

The transformation idea is good, though it's not really different from just a weapon switch outside of aesthetics, but I'd rather it be into something more unique, ala Lucifer.

She does have Pandora though, what's up with that.

Transformation could be made interesting by incorporating carry over buffs or status effects between modes or by creating special transitional attacks between modes. Since I've been playing a lot of Monster Hunter recently, it made me think of the Charge Blade.

Yeah that could be interesting if there are mechanics attached to it. And as long as they get creative with the forms like they did with Pandora.

Though with multiple forms comes complexity ala multi weapon switching with Dante (which people complained about) and from the description she sounded like more of a beginner friendly character.

Ah so Play Asia will charge you when the item ships, right?

Yes, I believe so. There might be an initial temporary authorization charge, but I'm not sure.

But again, it's $40 more, so you pay for that convenience.

I'm really tempted to jump on that limited edition from Play Asia

Wryyyyyy. Unless you absolutely can't pay for it until June, I don't see why you wouldn't wait for another store to open pre-orders or use a proxy. Or heck, even nin-nin is cheaper if you go easy on the shipping.

will Vergil have any guns for DMC 4 SE?

Why would he? His character is inherently opposed to firearms.

At most, I'd expect we get different forms of summonable weapons, but definitely not an actual gun. For example, I could see him wielding Pandora as a melee or modified projectile weapon (since Pandora has 666 forms, right?)

I couldn't find a screenshot of the quote in-game, but this should work.

that's right i forgot...wasn't vergil actually considered a better swordsman than dante, but dante was more powerful overall..

edit: so dante doesn't really care about 'true honor" or anything that...he'll use guns if he wants to

I wouldn't go that far. The dude just likes using guns. He's fighting supernatural demons, so I don't think it's a question of being fair or honorable. Vergil just finds them crude.

I don't know if it's ever outright stated that Vergil was a better swordsman than Dante. We can certainly extrapolate this from their initial encounter in DMC3 where Dante loses, and it leads into Dante's development throughout the course of the game

Whenever we finally find out what caused the initial pre-DMC3 schism between Dante and Vergil (and maybe some backstory on the "JACKPOT!" thing too) it'd be kinda neat to find out if Eva's death was what soured Vergil on guns.
