What is supposed to be the 'right' way to progress after beating the first 3 bosses
(C. Beast, Father and B.S. Beast
? I have paths open via getting kidnapped by a bag guy and I also opened a gate w/ an emblem (?) close to the aforementioned bag guy, but those don't seem like they're part of the 'natural' progression.

I finally braved the first boss (aka Hysterically Screaming Teenager at a One Direction Concert), and I was a complete train wreck the first time around. After that, I muted the boss for my sanity, and got it with ease on my third go. What a difference it makes! Curse you, fantastic sound design. I really haven't had to mute a lot of Souls bosses, but it was far easier to focus on it in silence. It's probably cheating, really. Goal for NG+: beat the boss unmuted! It's the little things.

...unfortunately, hysterically screaming back at the boss doesn't help long term, but it did provide temporary emotional relief.

Discovering a shortcut is still the best feeling! I thought I was going to have to a mad dash across the level each time. Suck it, weredicks.

Do you lock on for most of the fight? or not lock on so you can roll as opposed to side step?

Lock on briefly if you're attacking/shooting.
Keep it off for creating distance (for vials) and rolling behind him.

At least, that's how I did it. I felt that dodging to get behind him was a lot more difficult with lock on.

Cathedral.

Lol, cheers.
Considering heading back and killing the creepy guy, then go to the hospital ward and send future NPC's there.

Does killing Creepy Guy have any negative repercussions?

If you want to spoil yourself. Watch the Latest Epic Name Bro video for Bloodborne. It makes the choice really complicated this early on.

No, it's on the bridge.

While on the bridge, kill the wolves on the bridge and take a left off the bridge where a pitchfork guy is standing.

Proceed through the building opening the door, kill the guys inside, come out through the other end, kill the shooter on top of the staircase.
Take the stairs up further and open the gate.

By the way, the bridge is past the mobs around the bonfire. In the area with the guy beating on the door there's a staircase leading towards it.
there has to be another way to get to that gate because I never went to the bridge and fought the wolves until after I beat the cleric beast. i wish I was still playing Id go look. getting passed those wolves is tough as nails!

Been running around for a couple hours now after the 3rd boss. I got a new sword, and a bunch of random items, but I can't seem to find out where to actually go to get to the 4th boss and onward. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Did you notice
there is a small entrance forward and to your right just after you spawn in the odeon chapel. It leads to an elevator.

Yeah, there might be, did you go through the sewers first perhaps?

Am I doing this right? I'm killing some enemies and as soon as I get enough blood echoes I make a quick return to the house and purchase some hunter gear one piece at a time. Is this what I'll be doing throughout the game be it returning for gear, weapons etc?

remote play works really well, R2/2 are mapped to the toucscreen. may be even better if you switch L1 with R2, so that light and charge attack are on triggers and pistol and weapons switch are on the touchscreen.

do you mean left from the cathedral before you enter the plaza?

yes. Thank you!

Are you just going down the ladder that's straight ahead? If so instead go to the right down a staircase and follow the path. It after a few times you'll run through the beginning part with your eyes closed.

Yeah I go down to a ladder till I reach an area with a hunter dude (not the gatling one) and some crows. Didn't see any other way. I'll look better.

After a very successful business trip I will finally play this today.

Considering leveling up for 40 hours then tackling cleric beast...

Guys a question, what do I do after I've defeated the third boss?
The one at the cathedral without roof: there's no door or exit, so I went back to the safe zone and I've talked to the guy in the wheelchair. I went to Ludwig's workshop but a door is closed on the top floor.

You could do that but you don't have to. I prefer to not think about my blood echos and just accept that I might lose them but I'll gain more knowledge of the enemies and map if I just keep pressing on. Often you can just run past guys in an area if you've already got all the items anyway.

What'd I miss if I just start the game without finishing the 1st day update first? Because the game is already in my PS4, ready to be played, and then this update is pissing me off, taunting me. Damn it,

Best thing the is to
buy the key in the hunters dream

Door you used the emblem on leads to the next boss. Past the gate you need to cut through some alleys on your left, which will lead to
the other side of the gate across the plaza from the emblem gate.

Just for my refund from Sony as I couldn't cancel the pre order but the funds had already been taken from wallet. Gave them a call after it had preloaded and they sorted it all.

Turns out the girlfriend had already bought it for me :)

Alright you bastards. Initial update just got done on my PS4 with the FW update as well so I'm finally ready to start the game. Liked Demon's Souls, didn't like Dark Souls, and didn't even bother with DSII. What should I be on the lookout for?

Took a while but i'm not happy I switched to
Ludwig's Holy Blade
over the hunters axe.

Started yesterday and wanted to try something different form my normal
great sword
play style but wow, switching to that when I have the chance. Hunters Axe really isn't doing it for me, as cool as it is.

Yes. Try to keep staying behind him, its easier to attack him there.

Also, if you can learn how to toggle on and off the lock on while fighting, it will help a lot moving in the fight.

Camera gets in the way most of the times, and damn the stamina! Always running out after a few swings with my weapon.

Ignore your strengths in DS games. Play with guns blazin' and learn your side dodge skill. That first boss was brutal playing it like I would DS.

So is the forbidden forest the correct area to go through after I've beaten the witches + the other bosses (BSB being the latest). I'm kinda stuck wondering around although I did get teleported to the
lecture hall and nightmare realms
which I thought was pretty cool. Made it most of the way through NM until I wondered somewhere and
someone pushed me off the ledge into the dumb poison
after that I decided to take a break for a while. I just don't really know which direction I should head at this point and the forest is a pretty long trek with only one lamp for a while.

Lol...this cracked me up. Maybe I should try it too >.>

I'm watching a stream of this right now on twitch and I got to say....dodging and parrying looks so fucking badass in this game. Like it's so smooth and taunting.

Spoiler Alert: this dude was
fighting Father G-(whatever his name is) and he reached some level 3 type shit and was going off on this dude.
He just started parrying and dodging and I watched in allure of how smooth it was. The boss was just getting super crazy, relentless, never wanting to stop but the parrying just made him look like an idiot just fighting air. Pretty slick stuff. I now feel like I need to purchase this game.

Morning GAF,

So let me preface the following with this: I love this game.

Now I played for about 2 hours last night and got my ass kicked by various enemies. Not a big deal I have played a lot of Dark Souls and I'm used to thing kind of thing. I'm filing all of this under exploration, and learning.
That being said I got to the first boss last night after inadvertently finding the second boss during said exploration.
That boss repeatedly kicked my ass over and over to the point that I had to walk away. I feel like a total failure GAF there is no other way to put it.
I refuse to look at guides, so I am trying to understand the mechanics of the guns but I often feel like I am just spamming it when I see an animation start.
Any protips on when its the right time to attempt a stun? I know its going to vary from enemy to enemy? Also it seems that the follow up big hit that occurs after a stun is happening inconsistently for me is the window for that super short?

Again love the game, I just feel like I am not grasping some core combat mechanics.

Also one thing that I both love and hate is how late the first leveling opportunity comes, and that I am still running around in base armor!

When you see Father G look like he's about to attack with his right hand weapon, wait as along as possible without getting hit and shoot. You don't need to be right up in his face to do it, but it helps with closing the gap for the critical hit. Yeah, it's a small window to hit a critical attack, but at least if you stun him, you can get a couple normal hits in. As for someone who only used parry attacks to kill him, I found it MUCH easier to improve on parrying than try to fight the camera here and just hack and slash. Also, once you get to the end fight, you're going to HAVE to be decent at parrying or it might give you some problems. If you purposely go out there to die, just to learn his attack patterns to understand parrying more, it wouldn't be a bad strategy.

For the armor, check the Messengers or check the sewers.

Just beat
The Witch of Hemwick
second try, should have been first try but
I got hit by her magical projectile and surrounded by 4 Soot Monsters
.

Now I'm off to try to take on one more boss before bedtime, as I've managed to do 2 bosses per day so far without rushing and I'd like to keep that streak alive. I spent too much time farming today though so I'll be pushing it.

Dodging is still something I need to get used to. The R3 lock on is not the best strategy. I wish it was mapped to a different button.

To confirm, locked on dodge does a side step and non-lock on dodge does a full roll dodge?

Yeah, there might be, did you go through the sewers first perhaps?

alrighty. i found it. when you pass the area where all the guys are standing around the fire and enter the area where the big guy is banging on the doors.. just stay to the left and there are a bunch of coffins against the fence. you can smash them revealing a hole in the fence you can drop down to where the dogs are in cages and from there ypu can reach that gate. thats a good route because you can avoid the wolves on the bridge.
