spawn in the center of town. hopefully you have opened the gate in front of you to the left. if you have then go through there. kill the one guy at the top of the stairs. enter the house at the bottom of the stairs. go up the stairs in the house. go out the door upstairs. at the top of those steps, turn left down the bridge. the cleric beast is right past the fat bald troll.

Wait, how do you unlock that gate? Is the path
behind the barrels that you break before you take a right and meet the huge guy with the cinder block

Morning GAF,

So let me preface the following with this: I love this game.

Now I played for about 2 hours last night and got my ass kicked by various enemies. Not a big deal I have played a lot of Dark Souls and I'm used to thing kind of thing. I'm filing all of this under exploration, and learning.
That being said I got to the first boss last night after inadvertently finding the second boss during said exploration.
That boss repeatedly kicked my ass over and over to the point that I had to walk away. I feel like a total failure GAF there is no other way to put it.
I refuse to look at guides, so I am trying to understand the mechanics of the guns but I often feel like I am just spamming it when I see an animation start.
Any protips on when its the right time to attempt a stun? I know its going to vary from enemy to enemy? Also it seems that the follow up big hit that occurs after a stun is happening inconsistently for me is the window for that super short?

Again love the game, I just feel like I am not grasping some core combat mechanics.

Also one thing that I both love and hate is how late the first leveling opportunity comes, and that I am still running around in base armor!

Yes

Edit: Is there a video for this shortcut yet? If not, I made one yesterday for a friend and could post it here when I get home.

This might have been answered earlier in the thread, but is parrying easier compared to the Dark Souls games? I was scared when I heard you had to parrry alot since I gave up trying in Dark Souls and went spear and sword for most of the game. I played Bloodborne for about four hours today and found the pistol parry much easier. I could pull it off pretty reliably on most mobs (really easy with the big guys).

So uh, this Cleric Beast. Just ran into it.
Can you parry the thing with your gun? Or am I just wasting bullets?
Also I feel like I'm fighting the camera more than the boss >.>
Camera sucks there. I never stunned him. Just dodge and slice. A few molotovs for good measure.

My best advice is to parry/shoot just a tiny bit after you see the enemy charges its swing. Usually that works. But really, you need to get a feel for the parry timings. It's different from enemy to enemy.

Just keep at it. You'll get it sooner or later.

In DaS most people learned to Parry with the silver knights. This game forces you to learn it much earlier.

Spent about 5 hours exploring last night - didn't kill any main bosses though (helped co-op a new one for me though). Damn, I'm loving this game.

The For
bidden Woods
is super cool, especially once you get to the area with the freaky head things. That place down there looks like a maze - ran through some of it as a summon with someone, looking forward to exploring it more on my own.

Then got side tracked by doing the first level of a Chalice Dungeon - kind of neat. I thought they were supposed to be randomized though? Saw my BF play through the first level of his - and it looked exactly the same to mine.

Then decided to run around and knock on doors again to see whats changed - lots of new dialog, weird things, etc. Then one door gave me a
key item
, so I returned to an area before that a
giant hand would frenzy me at
, but instead of getting frenzied I
got taken off to a new area
.

Explored that a bit, cleared out the enemies - and then got taken off to another new area.

So about 15 hours in, 5 bosses down - and seems like I have 3 fairly large areas to explore that I know of right now.

The difficulty curve is hitting the right spot for me right now - not too hard, not too easy, still satisfying to kill bosses (even if I get them on my 1st or 2nd try), still get my butt kicked frequently while exploring if I'm not careful.

Loving it so far.

I haven't played a Souls game in years, so I am terrible so far.

Before I tackle the first boss again I want to upgrade. What are the best things to upgrade for someone who is generally bad at combat in these games? I'm playing as soldier with the axe.

Real problem for me was
the meteor shower attack that he keeps doing if you are too far from him.
Here's how i did kill him.

I beat him a few minutes ago finally, but the way I did it felt really cheesy, a bunch of luck, and not like I accomplished much. All I did was
Killed the first wave of spiders since he just sits there. Did two power attacks and two combos before he teleported, taking off over half of his health. Next wave I just waited until there was a large enough gap in the spiders for me to run in and hit him twice. Then, I waited again and ran in and shot him with a +6 Cannon, then did it again and he died. I almost died three times in the process.

Saw Cleaver. If you're talking about stats, whatever you need to meet the requirements of a weapon you want to use (but don't alternate between STR or SKL weapons early) and then just get your VIT up to 10 - 15 and then focus on END until around 20.

The Axe is actually pretty decent too, but I found the best thing about it is the jumping attacks. Otherwise, the Saw Cleaver is a generally all around better weapon.

Been running around for a couple hours now after the 3rd boss. I got a new sword, and a bunch of random items, but I can't seem to find out where to actually go to get to the 4th boss and onward. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

No, it's on the bridge.

While on the bridge, kill the wolves on the bridge and take a left off the bridge where a pitchfork guy is standing.

Proceed through the building opening the door, kill the guys inside, come out through the other end, kill the shooter on top of the staircase.
Take the stairs up further and open the gate.

By the way, the bridge is past the mobs around the bonfire. In the area with the guy beating on the door there's a staircase leading towards it.

Try upping your strength, vitality, and endurance. You can also upgrade your axe at this point, and I highly recommend doing so.

I really agree with your second part. Always start with 4 vials seems like nice way to balance things. Or warping between bonfires, instead of the always hunters dream in between. I think that they want to discourage warping, but no, you need tose vials. OR DECREASE DOWNLOAD TIEM

I'm not so far in yet that I can comment on the deepness of it. But I think this criticism reeks of truth for those who invest over hundreds of hours into it. I think most people will complete the game once and continue on NG+ and then stop. Even if there had been more weapons they wouldn't ve experimented that much anyway.
Patch coming to help with Loadings times...We be's them early adopters got beta test '-)

First boss down after 5 or so attempts. Dat camera...

Second boss down first try!
I like/don't like how there was no fog door. Now I'm scared to go ANYWHERE!

Man I love exploring. Holding my own against the mobs, but that damn first boss gave me a run for my money. I'm taking the easy way out and blaming the camera. Yeah, that's it.

Spent a lot of time going back and forth in the first area, getting my bearings. I feel pretty comfortable with the layout now. It's pretty twisty so it took awhile. Once you kill all the enemies it's nice to run around and figure things out without the threat/disorientation of combat. REALLY digging the game. Load times could be shorter for sure, but I'd feel like a whiny kid complaining that the last 10 seconds or so are UNBEARABLE. =)

And after much trial and tribulation I've gotten the hang of stunning with the pistol. Sort of. Sometimes. =)

Great game so far, and I know I've only scratched the surface.

Always upgrade your main damage weapon. That'll give you the biggest improvement for actually killing the enemies. Upgrade the axe and you'll feel a big improvement.

I also felt that buying the Hunter gear improved my survivability a little bit. The starter gear is like clothes of toilet paper.

Hope you don't miss this reply but at the church, instead of ascending to that locked door you need to buy the key for, go around to the right immediately before walking through the entrance door. There's a DeS 2-2 style falling section.

Thanks for the reply, but i found it! I originally went down all the way, until i went back and saw that other door on the way down.

i cant really remember how I got to that gate from the back. i think you go to where the big guy is banging on the big doors and there is a path near the fountain that leads up to that gate... dont quote me on that. im in bed on my mobile and cant check it out.

edit. if you can find the house with the guy in the wheelchair in it. its right near a staircase outside the house

It's pretty easy after learning the layout and where to stand. Or you can have him be on your side and leave you alone by other means from what I read on here.

Really?

Well the problem Im having is that theres some hunter NPC down there fighting me, and some crows too... and all of that while the fucked up there keeps shooting me.

Thank you kindly for the advice. On the up side I unlocked a bunch of shortcuts last night, and set a giant
pig
on fire!

EDIT One more question: Also last night I found
another hunter who was on a balcony outside of that warehouse that leads to the aqueduct area. He was wearing a sort of plague mask. After talking with him a few times he game me some item (all I remember is it was <something> cape?) but I can not find it in my inventory or equip it?
Just confused was that armor or just a general item or am I bugged?

Hey Dex. guys, I've focused on Vitality/Endurance/Skills for this build but want to know level you guys are putting into other stats just for weapon equip. I'm slowly finding out strentgh is still important so gonna put that to level 12. Arcane is at 11, should I bring up Bloodtinge to 10 or so?

The lack of skill based weapons makes me feel like I should have focused on strength first then skill on NG+ lol...what do you guys nimble characters look like? I'm already 36, so gonna be a long grind to 40 to get my strength somewhere decent.

Fuuuuuu, I hate those
wolves
but thanks. I'll check that out.

So uh... that church with the creepy guy. I told this one lady to go there when she asked about a safe place to travel.

Did I just fuck her over or

Heh, sometimes I get a bit cocky after playing for a bit "Heh, I can take a few enemies at once" and then they proceed to kick my ass....

Never get cocky, even the smallest, weakest enemy can kill you if you are not careful or get stunlocked

I fucked up with the chalice somehow and need help. I was just about to go back into layer 3 and face the boss when I get the message, "Chalice removed." What the hell? Can I undo this? Fuck. Guess I'm never doing that again. Talk about a buzzkill.

cleric beast down on today's 1st try yay!

Visit the place and see if they are there. There is certainly a chance to screw people over but you won't know till you do it. I get the feeling that its bad-bad choice for everything in reality. :D

Blades of Mercy for me I suppose for NG. If I've got my endurance, vit and skill leveled up nicely enough I'm gonna put points in STR for stake driver.

I pushed him off the tower and missed his loot. What'd I miss?
Badge to buy a sweet new weapon. Go back to the roof, reload your game and it will be next to the turret.
Really?

Don't go that way until the turret guy is dead. When you get up there knock him off the building or hope he rolls off.

Lol, cheers.
Considering heading back and killing the creepy guy, then go to the hospital ward and send future NPC's there.

Does killing Creepy Guy have any negative repercussions?

Later Boss spoilers:
Micolash, Host of the Nightmare is the best troll boss. He just runs around and spams magic
