Kirkhammer is much better than i initally gave it credit for

You REALLY need to understand its sweetspot mechanics to get the most out of it. Not to mention it seems to do more damage if you somehow get its swing to hit enemies on the head.

Also.... The second swing after the charge R2 is bananas and sends even the Big enemies in the Cathedral flying.

Pump Stamina for sure to get those sweet sweet follow up attacks

I'm mostly using its short mode right now. With enough endurance you can just swing like 5 times in a row and it goes through a nice combo thing. It also has better reach than the saw in short mode and is faster than the axe.

Since everyone's talking about it, I gotta ask: how/when do I get the Ludwig's Holy Blade?
You need to advance to the third boss,
The Blood-Starved Beast
. After you defeat it,
The chapel will have a door opened that previously wasn't. Go through it, up the elevator and fight your way to the top of the tower. The badge is in a chest.

Where is the hunter clothes? I felt like I searched the sewer but I still can't find it. I just hit level 19 by upgrading vitality more. . still haven't beaten any bosses yet. Farming echoes, blood stones, vials, and bullets
Secret entrance to the upper part of the sewers

Starting at the Cleric Beast Lantern, cross the bridge to the end and turn right after the werewolves. Once there look for stairs going down behind barrels. You'll find the clothing on a corpse at the end of the sewers, right next to the pit that leads to the lower sewers

So
I'm in Central Yarnham and I encounter the first mob of guys. Kill them quickly and turn around a corner. This huge hulking sunuvabitch LEAPS AT ME and slices me down in one hit. Is he even beatable at this point?
Fucker just stole like 1500 of my Blood Echoes!

That's the executioner, he's by far one of the most difficult enemy encounters in Central Yarnham when you're just starting out. He's definitely beatable, but it's easier to come back once you are a bit more experienced. Use your gun to try to parry his attacks (super-small window compared to brick trolls), and just dodge, R1, bail.

Oh yeah

He died quickest to Visceral attacks (Shoot him with the gun just before he hits you and then run up and use R1 up close)

You can also back stab him and get a visceral attack. Or just crush him with the Axe or Kirkhammer

I have two questions from briefly watching a stream of this game:

1) The player was running around breaking every barrel/crate/box. I don't recall him actually finding anything. Is this something "required"? I don't enjoy that sort of thing (for example, Baldur's Gate, checking every barrel for items).

2) During several fights with multiple enemies, the enemies seemed to just form a line, waiting to fight one at a time. The second enemy would come near and just stand there until the first enemy was killed. Or a group of enemies would be standing around and only one of them run after the player. The player wasn't doing anything special to avoid the others chasing. Is this how the entire game is?

yes he is beatable. a bit difficult though. try parry him.

They aren't in THOSE sewers. There is a second hidden path guarded by some boxes that overlooks the main congregation area for that huge group of enemies by the bonfire.

Funny.

I got up to the 3rd boss this morning. I found the battle actually kind of routine and thought I had a good chance to defeat in my first try. I get him down to around half health and I'm doing well - still have around 9 vials of replenishment.

I then proceed to get command grabbed, instant "slow" poisoned and then die within a second of standing up. Didn't even have enough time apply my antidote, lmao.

Have to go back after work and put that sucker down.

1) Barrels won't drop stuff but you'll find secret entrances and hidden items behind them, so it's always worth breaking them

2)Enemies don't form a line at all. They'll surround you and hit you in the back with no mercy.

I have been virtually unable to progress for the last like 8 hours of playing. Just brick walls whichever path I try to go. Getting really frustrating.

I guess people don't want to do co-op for the Blood-Starved beast? Been waiting here with my bell for ages and no takers. I checked and I am online so it should work right?

That I couldn't say, but usually I have an easier time getting a stun with the Blunderbuss up close

There's lots of secrets behind crates and barrels

Embrace the joy of breaking wooden shit by rolling

You should save that for a messenger note...I'm sure it would get a lot of FINE approvals

I had the same problem. The strategy was obvious but one false move and you're in trouble. Eventually i noticed that some of my armour had better poison resistance than others (
I found it in that house you get to in Old Yarnham by falling onto the ledge next to the crows where that hunter is

I killed him once just for a blood vial and there's no exit in his alley. Not worthy. -_-

Oh boy, I'm pretty close to it then! How does it scale with STR and Skill? So far I've been putting all my points into Skill.

Well I tried to go back and get my revenge and got him down to half health before he started spinning like a Beyblade and killed me. This fucker is gonna die, RIGHT NOW.

Bought myself a Steak Driver. How are people liking this weapon? It only seems useful for the transformed charge attack. Could be good for some bosses?

Gascoigne outfit suited me well for this boss

you need to learn its attack pattern by watch how it move its body. its really easy to recognize which attack is about to come : explosion, shards from the ground or from above. if you see its about to unleash the meteor before the meteor actually appear in your screen, just run sideways maybe roll a bit. it will not hit you.

I know how the boss telegraphs it's attacks, that part is extremely simple and obvious. The part that I find bullshit is the attack itself.

I can look at the boss and see that okay, now he's doing it. But then, no matter what timing and direction I try to dodge/run/sprint, the result is seemingly completely random. There's no consistency between what I do to avoid them, and whether that actually works or not, sometimes it does, most times it doesn't. It's dumb, and I'm probably just gonna cheese the fight like all the kill videos out atm do.

So how are you supposed to beat the three man gank squad in the Unseen city? I can't even get one of them down, and that includes getting lucky and power attacking > viscious attacking the first one, who then moves at warp speed.

It is random, despite the "it's easy to dodge" line. If you stand there after they launch, you can *sometimes* just dash forward and they will miss. Sometimes there's a delay, and sometimes they track you no matter where you move. In the end, it's a lame fight and you have to lame it out yourself on top of being lucky. I don't really believe people claiming it was easy, because I doubt they would be able to repeat it without dying consistently.

Same happened to me when I first started - yup he's beatable, just be cautious. He drops an item too I believe.

I actually just rolled behind him and did a couple charge attacks from behind and got him. Trick is don't lock on to him. You can cheese him with oil and 4 Molitovs too

So I am a noob to the series. First night I checked it out, I was convinced I was going to trade it in to minimize my losses. Fucking died 15 times on that first encounter before I realized
I was supposed to die.

Even then and
once I got my weapons, I could not even get past that first initial group of people in Central Yarnham.

Played it again last night, and things started to click. I got
enough Blood Echoes I was able to go back to the Hunters Dream and get the Hunters Gear.

I then made it to the
big ass wolves on the bridge, and one of those fuckers took 3600 Blood Echoes.

I called it a night at that point, but just one night made the world of difference. I am also a member of another community and a member pointed out there how important locking on to enemies was, I had asked how do you hit guys with pebbles because I was not locking on to enemies, and I have not used that mechanic once yet. I am hoping now that I know the importance of locking on, things start clicking even more.

My big thing with this game, as I thought it may be but I still took a chance, was having limited time to play. I play in shorter bursts, 30-60 minutes a session, and sometimes go days without being able to play (being 40 years old can do that to you), and I really do believe this is a game where having the time to dedicate to getting good at it is super important to how good one gets at the game.

So I still may trade it in, but last night convinced me I may have hope after all.
Either way I appreciate how hard the game is. It just may not be an experience that is conducive to my limited gaming schedule. However if I had time to play it, I do believe I would ultimately love it.

just finished downloading the game in the morning played 2 hours starting out as a waste of skin using the threaded cane, beat
cleric beast and father gascoine
.
gun parry is amazing, the game is fantastic aside from those long loading screens

also the recent firmware update for ps4 made it so when you get a trophy it also screenshots, that was neat

If you got to forbidden woods, what level were you around that point?

The echoes are rolling in now. I just leveled up a bunch and now I'm level 40.

could you stream your gameplay. Maybe its a bug that you cant dodge? i fought it several times and never feel that i would be killed by that move if i am careful.

I probably won't play this anytime soon,but I have a few questions:
1) Does the game have the metroidvania feeling DS1 had?
2) How long does it take to get this hammer?

We need to spread the work about how to get the coop items

There is a Shop in the Hunters dream RIGHT in front of the Library that only opens when you have 10+ insight.

It sells the items needed to Help or Invade players (the bells)

Its really easy to miss the entire online component untill this becomes a known thing

What if you only need a summoning help, do you still need 10 Insight?

So maybe I just totally remember it wrong but I thought going to The Hunters Dream replenished your blood vials. Is that completely false? I'm running out and can't find more...

Isn't that the one whose description makes it indicate that it does more parry damage? I might have a go with it one of these days.

holy shit yoshi dont you sleep at all
I've slept a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes in the past 52h. I have two more days to go without 'much' sleep till I'm satisfied.

I'm fine :p it's kinda interesting to see how the body reacts! The current issues with my body right now:

- irritating coughs every 10-15 minutes. Stops after approx. 5-6 consecutive coughs

- the white socks on the eyes are filled with red veins

- the bottom of my head (under the hair) is scratchy

- my arms, legs and stomach is considerably more sensitive. Touches that would normally be pleasent to the skin is now uncomfortable

- nose is dripping

I'm expecting the above symptoms to multiply within the next two days. I'm also expecting headaches and slight nausea. My eyes should get better in the next 12-24h though.

1. Sometimes you'll find hidden items, paths, etc. Breaking stuff is good (and fun for some reason).

2. Maybe they were in a narrow area? I know I've been ganged up on by multiple enemies several times in my playthrough.

Huh, second swing after charge R2? Never tried that, but I've been pumping vit instead of end. And by big enemies you don't mean the REALLY big axe/ball and chain enemies, right?

I tried to make the kirkhammer work but it just wasn't doing it for me. I LOVE the longsword and great mace movesets in souls games but this isn't quite the same. The importance of range and transform combos sent me back to the hunter axe for now. I mean, the kirkhammer transform combo LOOKS cool but it's so slow that everything I try it on just punches me in the face.

I've got it at +3 which is as high as I can get anything right now but I just was not feeling it for anything other than smashing those big dudes. Which my new weapon (stake driver) is better for even at +1.

If you have an over-stock in storage, it will replenish them if you die.

If you have run out, you need to farm some.

What if you only need a summoning help, do you still need 10 Insight?

No but you do need people to be online and ringing "Their" bells to come help you among what other matchmaking requirements run in the background

I think the issue may be that there just aren't enough players ringing the bells lol

I probably won't play this anytime soon,but I have a few questions:
1) Does the game have the metroidvania feeling DS1 had?
2) How long does it take to get this hammer?
1) It's completely interconnected beyond the HUB like DS1. You can still warp from the HUB to any "bonfire" but there's way less checkpoints so you need to do a lot of walking with tons of shortcuts to open
2) You can buy it as soon as you beat the first boss

3 bosses down... time to do some exploring... kidnapped?! And no health vials. FML.

Tough motherfucking enemies in this area and dying
respawns you back here
.

You need to advance to the third boss,
The Blood-Starved Beast
. After you defeat it,
The chapel will have a door opened that previously wasn't. Go through it, up the elevator and fight your way to the top of the tower. The badge is in a chest.

Wait, in terms of "ordering" / when you should do certain bosses, the
Blood-Starved Beast is third? I made it harder on myself doing Vicar 3rd?!

Also, fire paper / bolt paper....these are consumeable, right? Any way to get more later? Is there a time limit?

dont want to tell you how to live your life but allowing yourself to sleep, rest, eat healthy

those things allow to you enjoy the game even more than marathoning it
