Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

Any confirmation if they've fixed the 60fps durability bug? It was in preview builds..

I'd hope something was said about it.

Yeah I've been looking for the pre-order on Steam, mainly to see what the pricing is like because I won't be pre-ordering it. The DVD version on amazon is like £18.99 right now which I think is fair, but I'd prefer to get it from Steam using the money I have in my wallet.

I think I'm gonna go with Dark Souls II on PS4, even though I currently love Dark Souls 1 on my PC. The PS4 version seems worth it with the DLC included and different changes.

Also, do any of you know how to fix green character shadows on Dark Souls for PC?

I'm not trying to convince you either way, but DSII on PC is one of the finest ports I've ever played. The silky smooth 60 is something to behold.

Ehhh I was hoping for 10-15, but I guess it's not a true bargain if both sides aren't leaving a bit begrudged.

Hopefully I can get it for modest discount on GMG, if not I'll probably just wait on a sale now that Bloodborne is out. They really busted the timing on this one, a month earlier and I would have bought it, but now I'll be busy with Bloodborne and other shit for months on end to even think about laying 20 bones down on something like this.

Which features? Are we including the graphical upgrade, which is minor at best on the PC version and extreme on the console versions?

I guess it's in the OP:

New Features:
- New characters and events (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)
- Story and world additions (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)
- Graphics and performance upgrades (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Improved online multiplayer (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Enemy and game design adjustments (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Various balancing tweaks (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)

Anything listed as "Only included in next-gen versions" is in the DirectX 11 version. It's a really stupid naming thing, they should have included all features in all versions, or given them completely different names. I view "DirectX 11" as a graphical-only thing, nothing more.

As someone that just finished the game and DLC on PC, Im not touching this until it is on a Steam sale at sub $10 price, in any other world, this would have been a free update.

Its great for people wanting to play it on current gen consoles though.

Oh, I didn't know the Direct X 11 version would have the exact same features and graphics as the current gen versions. I might go PC bnow eh.

But then again, I wonder which of PC or PS4 will have the most active player base.

Since I never got the DLC, I might as well upgrade for basically just the cost of the DLC itself, right? I am finding Bloodborne to be an inferior experience compared to DS2, so it will be nice to get back into it with remixed and new (to me) content once I've finished BB.

Not to put words in other Souls fans' mouths, but personally I agree with all points of criticism mentioned by Matthewmatosis in his 45 minute long video.

Just as him, I did like the game overall and played it for many hours (up to the second piece of DLC), but at the same time I also could never shake the feeling that many things felt off compared to Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. This includes the overall animations, invisibility frames and hitboxes feeling more sloppy, the world design being worse save for a few areas (specifically with regards to how places connect to each other and the overabundance of empty, drab looking hall ways), the lack of more varied bosses beyond "big dude with sword", the world building / lore being less well exectuded, and even a dip in quality for smaller things like the NPC's static placement in Majula.

Not to repeat Matthewmatosis even more but as a whole the game felt like it was made by a team that looked closely at the previous Souls games but did not fully grasp the intent behind many of those games' design decisions. Still a good game, but not one I'll go back to over the others.

(On personal sidenote: while I did enjoy DSII's DLC and can appreciate it's upcoming remaster, I can't help but feel it is ironic that of all the Souls games to get this treatment, DSII to me is the one that least deserves it in a way. I can only hope DES and DS get a similar treatment by coming to PS4 at some point.)

Edit: crap, too late with the video! Hopefully my summarizing thoughts will still hold some value.

Thanks for this. Very interesting insight and pretty disappointing to see

Ha ha, yes, I grabbed it from a FNAC in Paris and saw it at another game shop as well.

This is why I didn't order online. I feel like this is going to get shipped out to retailers early. That and I'm undecided if I want to get the DX11 upgrade or get it on PS4, although I'm leaning towards PS4.

can people hack PS4 game saves yet for other games? i'm thinking about going console on SOTFS if it means no hacking, the pc one will get hacked in a day and pvp in DS2 PC sucked bc of that, imo

Damn, $20 is much more than I expected. I'm hesitant, because $20 is enough to get me a totally new game, rather than just upgrade a game I'll probably wait until it's out and hear what people say about it first, because I am extremely skeptical.

I don't get it, so for PC you can upgrade for $19.99 if you own all the DLC? I own all the DLC for PC. So I pay $19.99 for basic visual upgrade and what else?

I see... I have it for PS3 too. I was thinking of getting it for PS4.

That would be nice. I'd like seeing more than
knights
in the
Cathedral of Blue

I put around 100 hours into DS2 on PC. That was without the DLC too.
I'm done with the game. The new graphics and the enemy placements won't make up for the boring bosses. I think $20 is kind of a robbery, but for DS2 players on the PC, there's no way around it.

I'll probably grab it during a sale in the future.

Which world? Was it a free update for gamers who had the original Metro 2033/Last Light?

They are offering this update/remaster at a reasonable price to existing users.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut was a $5 upgrade for people who owned the original game and the DLC. That's way more reasonable than $20. Granted, Dark Souls 2 is a much bigger game, but unless the improvements are absolutely groundbreaking, it's just not worth it at that price, not when there's so much more you can get for the same price elsewhere.

I'm mainly concentrating on Bb at the moment. I use to LAN DaS2 with a group, but trying to explain that on top of the $19.99 upgrade isn't something I'm too interested in doing. I realize the cost factor, but it's not my decision if someone throws down $40 + $30 + $20 for the whole package right off the bat. You could just wait till SotFS comes out. I think there's a lot more to Bb. The first week is a rush. I wouldn't mind seeing this with the graphic upgrades.

I'm loving Bloodborne, it's probably my favorite game in years, and never finished DS1 or this (or Demon's). Should I pick this up? Will it matter that I never finished DS1? I have it on PC now, so I can still go back and play it.
